I'm amused again

Over the past few months I've read with interest the ebb and flow of the various discussions about the relative state of repair at the DVC resorts and WDW in general. It's pretty clear to me that like everything else in life we all have varied and different opinions on nearly every matter under the sun. Some folks see the world through rose colored glasses while others, well lets just say their eyes are more wide open.

Frankly, I've been down to WDW and stayed at various DVC properties (including BCV) about 5 times in the last 15 months or so and I have been very satisfied with the whole experience every time. Have there been some problems, sure some of which are mentioned on these boards from time to time. If the problem is serious enough (to me) I let someone know. Overall, I think Disney does a truly remarkable job keeping the property up the way they do. I'm sure many of us don't do nearly as nice a job with our own homes.

I travel all the time on my job so I stay at lots of different places and I am in all kinds of establishments and I have yet to fine one that doesn't have the types of problems (or issues) that I read about on these boards. In comparison, I think Disney does a really fine job. Disney isn't perfect but in my humble opinion they do a pretty fine job of keeping the property in ship shape.

With all of that said, everyone is entitled to their own opinions I just want to thank everyone for keeping me entertained. Isn't it amazing the range of opinions and views we all bring to the table?

Wonderful post! I agree completely. Actually, even though there's often a thing or two I need to call and have fixed at DVC (understandably...they're very heavily used accomodations!) I think they do a much better job than any other place I've stayed....or equal to the best of other places I've stayed. I have NEVER found the following at DVC (and I have at other places....)

Broken glass under the sofabed
Stains of an...ummm...."intimate nature" on furniture
Sticky, dirty floors
A bathroom I had to clean before feeling comfortable using it
A cloudy swimming pool
Elevators so dirty the lights appeared dim
Something smeared on the walls (I didn't stick around to find out what!)

I've found I'm actually pickier about other hotel rooms since I've been staying at Disney. Problems happen...I think the issue is more in how they are handled...and that they are actually handled. As members, I also feel it is our duty to make sure the management knows if something needs to be fixed....we have an ownership interest in these properties and being that housekeeping isn't in the units as often it can't fall entirely on them to notice every little thing. Cleanliness, yes, I expect that of them....but maintenance stuff like lightbulbs, door latches, appliance condition....we have to keep them informed.

As I said, I totally agree that Disney does a great job with the resorts....and I'm thrilled to be a DVC member. And, yes, it is the variety of view here that keeps it interesting!

I completely agree that the DVC resorts are well maintained. We are fairly new to DVC and took our first real trip in August. We stayed in a 2br for 3 nights at VWL and 5 nights at BCV. Weeks prior to our departure, I followed these boards to see if there was any info I should be aware of and looking for useful tips. I was alarmed at the number of complaints, particularly in reference to BCV. I almost expected to arrive and to find the place looking like it was still under construction, or worse, like a poorly maintained Motel-6. The worse problem we had was that we were missing the oven mitts, which housekeeping promptly supplied when we called.

Sure, maybe the floor was not clean enough to eat off of and the shine on the sink did not blind us with the light reflecting off of it, but I don't eat off my floor and I hate wearing sunglasses inside. As a matter of fact I have seen worse care and maintenance problems at Marriotts, Sheratons, and even at Ritz Carlton hotels that I have stayed at. I even stayed at one place (I do not want to say where) that police evidence tape was still on not only the door next to my room, but two other rooms down the hall (I guess they had a bad week).

I truly enjoy our decision in purchasing at DVC. When I travel on vacation I go to relax and not nit-pick the small stuff. With the number of people who use these resorts, there are bound to be problems that are fixable. As long as maintenance and housekeeping are able to respond, to me it is all small stuff.

I totally agree! On our August trip, the rod from the blinds on the patio door was broken off. It was just sitting in the door frame. I didn't even call maintanance. I just left the rod and a note on the island when we checked out so they would know it was broken. It CERTAINLY didn't ruin my trip. I just had to open the blinds with the rope pull on that side instead of turning the louvers.

LOL! I always remember the trip where there was a knock on the door and a man there to repair exactly that problem! We were in the room maybe 15 minutes and hadn't noticed the problem at all. He said housekeeping had picked up on it. So, they really do make an effort.

Very nice post bcvillastwo. I'm amazed at things people will do and I can imagine the stories WDW/DVC folks have to tell. It's amazing things stay as well as they do! ;)
