I'm a packing with the ziploc bags convert!

DH and I are both plus siizes, are there any ziploc bags out there large enough to fit our clothes? Will rolling the clothes make them small enough to fit into the ziploc bags?

I'm pooh sized and I had absolutely no problem fitting two pairs of jeans in the 2.5 gallon bags. I did roll them very, very, very tightly though and just hung them up in the bath while I was showering and they were just perfect!!

I just love the Ziploc method of packing!! Started two years ago. Now I don't pack outfits in them (they would have to be some BIG Ziploc bags for my 6ft 4 tall husband and son!). I pack all of our underwear and socks in them and it keeps everything separate. Great idea!

I found the large(2.5 gallon) ziploc bags here in Canada at a Zellers Department store. They were $2.48 CDN for a box of 12 bags. I tried packing a t-shirt, capris, underwear, bra and socks, everythng easily fit into the bag. DH thought it was hilarous sucking the extra air out of the bags! I'm not sure if it was really necessary but DH just "needed" to see if he could do it. :rotfl2:

I am having a difficult time finding these bags :( but I've still got some time to look - 46 days to be exact:)

jenr812, I got my 2.5 hefty slider bags at Target, here in Texas. good luck.

I always pack my kids clothes in Ziplocs. I put a shirt, shorts, socks and underwear all in one bag and lable them with the day of the week. In addition, I pack some extra sets so when we get ready to leave for the park I can just throw a ziploc extra set of clothing into my backpack for the day.

We tried it for this for our trip last week. It was great! I used 2.5 gal. for my clothes and dh's, gallon size for dd4 and ds6, and the quart size for dd2! With the baby's, I even put a diaper in with it. That way I knew I had a diaper for each time she changed clothes, and then I put a day's worth of diapers in the carryon bag, and a bunch of extras in the suitcase.

We stayed in a 1br villa, so just used the washing machine as a hamper and when it was full, did a load of wash. I didn't bother re-bagging all our outfits for the trip home, as I didn't feel like wasting our vacation time rolling and sucking and such. :rotfl:

Just an FYI that DollarTree also sells the 2-gallon store brand ziplocs for $1.

My sister and DBIL take my 2 dds on vacation every summer. 2 summers ago I started using Ziploc bags. I pack a complete outfit down to barrettes in 1. My sister loves it since she just pulls out a bag and my dd is good to go.

I let my dds pick out the outfit when packing so every outfit is a winner. No whining that she doesn't want to wear it. :flower:

What do you do with the bags once you have extracted the contents? :teacher: Four family members X 9 days thats at least 36 bags to contend with.

Leave the empty bags in the suitcase so you have them for the next trip.

Before we left, I posted that I had never used the bags for packing but was using them for our trip last week. I promised to report back on how they worked for me.

THEY WORKED GREAT!!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

Honestly, I have never had as few wrinkles in clothes as I did using this method. I very carefully folded everything before putting it in the bag & I packed up to three tees per bag. Then, I sucked all the air out with a straw...and a big thanks to the poster that provided that tip! After the bag was deflated as much as possible, I smoothed over the surface on both sides to remove any folds or potential wrinkle causers that I noticed. It was so easy to unpack & put things in drawers at the resort. I left the clothes in the bags, then each night took out the tees, jeans or shorts we would wear the next day, & hung them on a rack. By morning, any small wrinkles had fallen out. I think I'll look into buying stock in the Ziploc company :teeth: because, from now on, I will always be using them to pack! :cloud9:

We have also bought some vacuum sealed bags that you roll up to get the air out and these seem to work pretty good as well.

I bought several sizes of the bags that you roll the air out at Target and Fleet farm. I reuse them whenever we travel. I can fit my 3 DD's (ages 11, 8 and 4) and all my clothes into one suitcase this way. I love having only one suitcase to haul around, and it is great to give each daughter their bags to unpack at the hotel. Definately worth it!

Oooh I have some but could use more. I will have to look there! Thanks!

I used these for our trip in April for the first time!! I am sold. I have never had such an organized trip. On past vacations, the kids would go through all the clothes and mess up the drawers and everything would get wrinkled and socks would get lost. Not this trip. It was so much easier. The nice thing also is that they are nice and sturdy so you can use them over and over. My bags are in the suitcase for the next trip!!
