I have a recipe that calls for buttermilk. I just finished grocery shopping in a really crowded store. It took me awhile to even find the buttermilk, but I got it. When I was putting it away at home, I realized it says Lowfat Buttermilk on the carton. Did I buy the wrong thing? Is there a full-fat buttermilk or is there only one kind? I thought maybe it was naturally lowfat, so they took the liberty of printing it on the carton? Please help... I'm already breaking into a pre-Christmas Dinner sweat.

It's the same as the difference between lowfat milk and whole milk. It's no big deal.

I didn't know they even made low-fat buttermilk. It won't change the recipe at all. It will just add a bit of fat and calories. Might even make it taste better. :sunny:

Ugh... since I'm baking with it, I think it probably is a big deal. I guess I'd better go back to the store. :guilty:

I bake with lowfat buttermilk all the time. Don't worry about it, it'll be fine.

You should be fine. Buttermilk is used for it's acidity in baking. You need acid to activate the baking soda and make the product rise. I wouldn't add additional fat to the recipe.

Sorry, I just re-read and realized that you bought the low-fat. I wouldn't worry at all about baking with the low-fat. Seriously, I use skim milk all the time when baking as well as a plethora of other low-fat options and everything's always delicious.

You should be just fine, your receipe will just be a touch more healthy (or less bad for you, however you want to look at it! ;) )

Thanks all. I also called my grandmother and she also assured me to stick with what I have. She worked as a dairy clerk for more than 20 years. She said its all the same. :flower:

Boy I must be really tired, I thought your thread said "Help, I'm a mormon"
