I'm a match!

This past summer I found out I'm a match to donate a kidney to my brother. I've gone down to Birmingham to have the final evaluation done and that went really well! I'm a good candidate to have a laparoscopic procedure!! That really shortens recovery time.

My brother went down today for a check-up and Dr. Dierhoi told him that the only match more perfect than ours is identical twins. Wow....I'm so happy about this....

We don't have a date scheduled for surgery yet...but I'll be sure and let you all know. I've read so many threads of support and prayer. You guys are a great group of people! I'm also wondering if their are any other "Donating DISers".

My brother has kidney disease. One day he will need a transplant also. I am not sure if I can be as giving a person as you are. I think that it will depend upon the ages of my children at the time. God bless you.

A friend donated a kidney to her mother a few years ago. the transplant was done in Birmingham also. Their program is one of the best in the country and both of you will be in wonderful hands. My prayers to both of your and the team that will be working on you.
