So I keep reading the reviews that it is AWFUL...we're taking our DD for her 4th birthday next month. Can anyone recommend what to eat for dinner there? I was thinking of the corn/crab soup, prime rib and chocolate buckle. Is it really THAT bad???

Heck, I'm a total food snob and I even at the Pizza Planet pizza and didn't die!

Thanks y'all!

We had dinner there our first time there, 2 years ago February, and really enjoyed it! I've never had a bad meal there!
When I was there for dinner I had the spring roll appy (delicious!) and the veggie pasta entree (VERY good!), the chocolate cream cheese buckle was awesome!
My DH and Mom had the prime rib and while they thought it was good it was just typical prime rib to them. The bread is delicious too!
We enjoyed the food at lunch a little bit more last year but really liked our dinner there as well!

I had dinner there in August and thought it was great! I had the spring roll, pork chop & mocha espresso creme brulee, it was the second best meal of the trip for sure! My aunt had the corn/crab soup which she loved, everyone other than me had the pasta which they also loved, and the buckle. Maybe we got them on a "good" day, but I was very pleased!

I had dinner there in June 08 & June 09, both times it was very good. I've never had a complaint there.

Dinner at CRT is a Family Tradition for us...and We've never been disappointed.

Funny...the Crab and Corn soup and the Prime Rib...is what I usually order....The 5 in our family ordered different desserts and "passed around the table"...they were all beautiful and delicious......

I understand what PP is saying about it being the "Standard Prime Rib"....I mean...just because it's the Castle...doesn't mean the meat is gonna be some really spectacularly different Prime Rib ...then they have..say at Outback...

BUT I LOVE PRIME RIB... and ....you aren't at Outback...YOU ARE AT THE CASTLE! SO of course it is (to me) the BEST Prime RIb ever...

The experience is divine...you get to meet Cinderella...you get a wand or sword...you are treated like royalty...You get a beautiful picture....you sing with the fairy godmother...you enjoy a fairy tale ambience...you have gorgeous and delicious desserts to choose from...I could go on & on...You are in the Castle...

Have a Magical visit....!

We ate dinner at the castle the last two years and loved it :goodvibes Both times I had the prime rib and it was awesome :yay: In August 08 the prime rib came with the most divine au gratin potatoes  They were not listed with the prime rib in June 09 but were listed with the lamb chops (which my daughter the chef had and thought they were terrific) so I asked if I could get them with my meal as well :woohoo:

We had CRT dinner this past June. We had the prime rib and chocolate buckle. The food was quite yummy. ::yes::

I think you've had the misfortune of reading negative reviews written by food snobs with unrealistic expectations of the CRT dining experience. As I see it, CRT dinner is more about the experience of dining at the castle, meeting Cinderella, and watching the floor show with Fairy Godmother and Mice. My recommendation: keep your reservation and try it at least one time. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I enthusiastically booked CRT when my ADR day opened. Since then, after reading a bit, I've been a bit worried about my reservation. However, the other night my soon to be DH and I were talking and he was like would you have had second thoughts if you hadn't found those "silly message boards" (as he calls them)? He also brought up a valid point that an individual is more likely to complain than post about a positive experience. He made me feel a lot better about our reservations. We're going in a few weeks and I'm tossing the negative reviews to the side.

We have been there twice for dinner so far (including Thanksgiving dinner last year) and have never been disappointed.

We look forward to our dinner reservation there in two weeks.

We have begun to travel to WDW atleast twice per year and always make CRT as one of our dinner reservations for atleast one of those vacations so enjoy you will love it!!

We eat there everytime we go. Like this year we went in June, we're going again in November and again in December. Our whole family loves it. We enjoy the food, the ambiance, and just being in the castle and being treated like royalty. It's definitely one of our favorites!!!

While the food is definitely not 5 star, it is nothing to fear either. I had the Major Domo's Favorite Pie and it was pretty good, DH had the pork and it was good too. But we were there for the Princess experience and it was well worth the meal to us. Money could not buy the look on my DDs faces when the princesses came to meet and talk with them. We will definitely be going back.

We don't think it is that bad. Fine dining no but we eat there on every trip.

There are some pictures and a review on my blog - link in my signature in the dining review section.

Corn & Crab Chowder, Prime Rib and Chocolate Dessert were what I had last time we were there.

Hope this helps some. :)

I have never had the soup. I totally love the salads. The dinner was a little salty by my tastes and a bit bare on the vegtables. It was not bad. Just ok. I think for the money a lot of people expect something spectacular. I always get the prime rib and DH rotates through the menu. As far as dessert goes, the buckle is just a muffin really and the creme Brullee last time was not the greatest.

One of the PP summed it up best by comparing it to food that you might be served at a wedding. I eat there on every trip because my kid loves eating in the castle. But I have heard there is another restaurant that has the same menu if you anted to try a particular meal without paying the premium for eating in the castle. Maybe another DIS user has a better memory than I do and can provide you with the name of that restaurant.

In December we are having dinner there for the first time (been there for breakfast once before) and I am looking forward to this meal. The corn chowder, Prime Rib, and chocolate buckle is what my DH and I have already decided that we are going to have. I used to be nervous about restaurants that I have made ADRs for and then later read all the negative reviews, but now I decided that it is better to be my own critic so I don't let them bother me anymore. Go have fun :goodvibes

DH and I had our anniversary dinner there in 2007 and we loved it. The food was good (BLT salad, prime rib, tortellini pasta w/veggies, chocolate cake and sorbet) and the experience of dining in the castle was not to be missed! It was a very nice dinner; we enjoyed the quiet and we had a view of Fantasyland from our seats. Our server was wonderful and brought us wine glasses as a gift "from the Castle staff". Perla is my favorite mouse from Cinderella and our server made a point of bringing her by to say Hi and take a picture with me. I am actually really disappointed that we won't be eating there on our anniversary trip in 2010, but we wanted to try some new places.

We had breakfast there for DS's trip in March and I have to say we won't do breakfast or lunch there again. It was loud and rushed and the food wasn't very good at all. And our server was awful. I'm not sure if it's protocol or what, but she took our KTTWC at the begining of the meal to pay for our meal and didn't bring it back for nearly an hour and even then we had to ask for it twice before she brought everything back. When she brought it back to us she told us that the guidelines for the gratuity were on the bottom of the slip and she would add that to our KTTWC. I told her that I knew the gratuity was already included so we would not be leaving anything else and she huffed away. I'm not sure if this was just an off day and she was having a hard time or something, but we decided that we prefer dinner.

We will be taking DD for dinner on her trip in 2011.

I also agree that some people expect too much from dining at the Castle. If you go into it expecting good food and a great atmosphere, I don't think you will be disappointed.

We ate there the day after our Disney wedding last November with most of our bridal party (there were 10 of us) and everyone loved it. I do not remember all that I ate but did have the crab soup (which we loved) and the chololate buckle (which was just wonderful).

Thanks for posting this information. DW and I will be celebrating our 11th anniversary there for dinner on 11/30 (it is a surprise to her). I thought it would be great to take my princess to the castle for her dinner, even though it might be thought of as being "for the kids".:thumbsup2

I can't wait! Out of the three meals, we chose the dinner simply cus the breakfast is just breakfast...and the lunch menu didn't seem that great and I'm a total prime rib nut so it's a no brainer, even if there's not many characters there for dinner. Not like we won't see them in the park!
