I can't believe I let this happen. Please don't flame me. I feel bad enough already.........
Seven years ago, I borrowed a beautiful Belle costume from my sister. Her step daughter wore it when she was four. She's 17 now. My DD wore it when she was 3, and she's 10 now. I kept it in the closet, hanging. I KNOW I should have returned it right away, but there were a couple of parties, and I thought maybe DD would wear it the next year. Well......she didn't.
DD and her friends ended up playing dress-up in it, and it was ruined. I mean totally ruined. The chiffon overlay was shredded, and the zipper was pulled out. I didn't realize this till it was too late. I found the dress later wadded up in a ball at the bottom of DD's closet several months later.
Fast forward to tonight. Dsis calls me and her step daughter wants the costume back! I'm freaking out! I now have to tell sis that the costume is ruined, (which she totally understands cause her kids would have done the same thing) Dsis is as surprised as I am that they want it back after 7 years, but what ya gonna do?
BUT the mother of the step daughter most definitely will NOT understand.
I feel so horrible. They want the costume for the 4YO neice.
I'm fessing up, and telling them the truth, along with $100 to replace the costume.
I just want to crawl under a rock right now.
