Hi everyone, I'm Sam, and I'm from New Hampshire. I am fifteen years old and a sophomore in high school. I came to this section of the board because I am 1,000,000% set on going to college in Florida and doing the CP, then eventually continuing my career in the theme parks of Orlando! I decided to post a new thread because I have a LOT of questions and other things I may need to go back and post here.

I am a theater nerd. I want to go into the CP as a performer, really anywhere they will have me. It is my ultimate GOAL to work for them in college and afterwards as a park performer. The one college that has really appealed to me is Rollins University in Winter Park (right next to Orlando ;)). I really don't want to do anything else in life because I've shifted my mind a lot before, for many different reasons, but I believe this is the right fit for me.

In order to get into college, I'm doing everything I can to sort of suck up to the college world by way of community service, extracurricular, etc. My GPA is over 4.0 (weighted classes) right now, and I'm working to keep it that way. I guess my question is open-ended: Any advice/tips on Rollins, DCP, etc? Thanks in advance!

Sam

I do not know anything about Rollins... but as for being a performer, take dance classes!

Disney is hiring three categories at the moment, short people (5ft and shorter), look-a-likes, and movers (which is a fancy way to say dancer). So if you're looking to become a performer, polishing up your dancing skill is going to be your best bet!

Take some classic to build technique. Then take some jazz/hip hop. The newer shows (DCR and MISICI) have a more hip hop dance vibe and that's what they need.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm taking ballroom at the moment, but I did take jazz a while ago. I need it again!

I do think that I could go in as a look-a-like, too. Right now I have Alice in Wonderland hair (although I suspect everyone wears wigs in that department!)

EDIT: I'm wondering now, is there any way to call up WDW or the like to ask some questions? My mom's a little bit skeptical of all this (in terms of working for Disney after college) and I'd never seen any place to contact or get extra info without going into the web seminar, which means I'd have to apply after :s

You can watch the webinar without applying, so I'd do that as soon as you can.

As for questions, you'd be better off posting them here or looking for a CP presentation at a nearby college for you to attend. It's the individual recruiters and campus reps that are great for answering questions; they each have individual areas (states) and can direct responses for your area/school.

Unfortunately, there's not a need for Alice. Below is from the Disneyauditions.com website:

Seeking the following roles:

Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, the stars of Walt Disney Pictures' newest animated feature, Tangled. Females: 5'4" - 5'7"; Males: 5'10" - 6'1"

Disney Princes and Princesses, including Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, Ariel, Snow White and their handsome Princes. Females: 5'3" - 5'7"; Males: 5'10" - 6'2"

The Disney Fairies, including Tinker Bell, Terence, our newest male fairy and Tinker Bell's best friend, and Vidia, a fast-flying fairy in a class all her own. Females: 4'10" - 5'7"; Males: 5'4" - 5'7"

I would make sure that Rollins allows you to do the CP because I go to Stetson(Rollins' rival school) which is very similar to Rollins just an hour away and they do not allow us to do the College Program because it is not an accredited school.

We are looking into several colleges in the Orlando area and I am going down to Florida next year to audition/tour, so I will be asking. I will also watch the webinar ASAP. When I did look at the seminar schedule, I think the closest one was in Massachusetts (3 hour drive :scared1:), so I'll have to keep checking that out. I'm going to college down in Florida for a couple of other reasons, family and my overall health (I am NOT a winter girl!) so we will be looking everywhere!

Berlioz70, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for that audition quote!!! I am 5'3 so I always worry about my height being right or not, and looks like I fit right in the middle for the faeries which makes me very happy. :)

Thank you all so much for your help! I will definetly be sticking around here with my questions. :thumbsup2

When you go on your tour, the tour guide(student Ambassador is what we are called at my school) might not know what the CP is so you might have to ask an admission's officer. the only college that I KNOW does the CP in Florida is Eckerd college, but it is not in the Orlando area, it is in St. Petersberg.

Hey! We've got a thread for people who are interested in doing the College Program several years in the future! it's here!

I'm also a high schooler who can't wait to do the CP! :goodvibes

I know that it took me a month of trying to track down someone at my school who knew what I was talking about. First I made an appointment with my academic councilor, and she had no clue. I spent most of the appointment explaining to her how it works, lol. She then called down to Admissions and Records and they had no clue. I gave up and just decided to do it on my own. A month later, I finally ended up visiting Work Study and they knew everything about the Program! I'm so glad I kept asking around. Good Luck!
