Well it looks like our March trip might be on hold for a few different reasons. DH and I talked about it quite a bit yesterday. The main reason is DH needs to take some college courses to qualify for the bachelors program that starts in June. He is hesitant to sign up for them this semester because he thinks his work shedule might change. He's an RN and currently works 3-11 but has a bid in for 7-3(he got bumped off that shift back in Feb.). It looks like there MIGHT be a shift opening soon on days and he has seniority so if it opens it's his. This is important to us as a family. It's hard not having him around at night time. Also with the baby coming in Otober he wants to be around as much as possible which is very understandable and will be helpful!
We also discussed our concerns about traveling with an infant. We were suppose to go to WDW for 4 nights then had a condo rented in St.Pete for a week. Just thinking about all the extras that will be needed like formula, baby food etc. not to mention the fact that it's a good possibility that s/he will not be sleeping through the night yet! That is exhausting in itself! Also, not sure if it is a good idea to be spending the $$ right now. Babies aren't cheap neither is 1 1/2 weeks in Fla.!!! So these things combined seem to equal NO VACATION. I'm so sad! I'm trying to be logical about this but my heart is telling me different!LOL I'm not cancelling it just yet because things may change but that's not likely!
Just thought I would cry to all my Dis friends! SORRY!!!!!

A good place to come and cry a bit, Kim, the DIS is good. Sorry to hear about the hitch in the plans, but if you do not go, it is a postponement, not a cancellation.

Hope all is going well with how you are felling.

Hugs,

Dan

As a mom of a now 1 yr old, travelling with a baby would be very hard and not a lot of fun if he/she isn't sleeping thru the night.

I know there are a lot of people on these boards who would disagree with me but I can't even fathom taking an infant on vacation.

We went 45 mins away to a condo when DD was 11 mo old and I can't believe the amount of stuff we had to take.

So as Dan said, it's not a cancellation, just a postponement. And in the end you may be happier for it! :)

We had plans to go to WDW in December of 01. I had just had a baby in October. I felt great & the baby started sleeping through the night at 3 weeks! (He slept from 11pm to 5am!) :bounce: Well, we were all set to go but when I mentioned it to my Pediatrician, he said that I should confirm this with my OB/GYN. Hmmm....so always doing what I'm told, I told my OB/GYN & he was against the long drive there since I wouldn't "feel" up to it. Said I'd be too tired to enjoy myself....Well, then the Pediatrician said that I probably would be too tired to enjoy it too, yada, yada, yada.....so we "postponed." (I should have gone, I had never felt better!)

As luck would have it, the following December my Mom (who was originally coming with us) had already recently been diagnosed with Cancer, the baby is getting fussier as he's getting older....then Mom ended up in the hospital with Meningitis & we almost lost her, so we again "postponed" the trip.

NOW, we're supposed to go this coming December & let me tell you....not only will this trip be emotionally painful since my Mom won't be with us (she passed away 5 weeks ago) but my "baby" is now 21 months old & I feel it will be MUCH MUCH harder traveling with him NOW than when he was so little & basically just slept & ate! I still need to bring the stroller, pack-n-play (don't like to use community cribs), diapers, etc...so I'm not sure if him being older will make our journey any easier! You can just bring enough formula to get you there & then buy some more there. I would re-think this carefully.

If it's mostly your husband's job concern, then I'm with you & think you should postpone, but don't do it on the baby's account. Your baby will travel easier as an infant than one in the 2 y/o range. Just my 2 cents worth to you.

I hope things work out for you, as being a Mom, there are NEVER enough vacation days allowed in our job description!

We can be depressed together.

I was supposed to be leaving for my sister's 21st birthday in Vegas this Sunday. But then the car broke, the cat needed his teeth cleaned, & I needed to pay $800 in tuition. Bye-bye airfare money, I really miss you!

I was looking forward to this trip so much. It was literally the only thing keeping me from walking out of my last final, going straight to airport, and getting on the first plane to WDW.

No vacation for me until my other sister's wedding in March :(

Thanks for the support guys! I needed a shoulder to cry on! I forgot to mention the fact that we had already postponed another trip to WDW in October for obvious reasons! The baby will be born October 9th and we were to leave on October 11th!! That's why we changed the trip to March. The good thing though is DH said we could go to WDW for a week when we rebook it! He's not as big of a fan as myself and DS. He enjoys himself he'sjust not obsessed like me!!LOL My mind is already turning thinking abot when we should rebook it for! We will either go at the end of 2004 or the beginning of 2005-by March. I LOVE going at Christmas time! My only hesitation is that last December we had AWFUL weather. It was cold as poured almost the entire trip. I know you can never predict the weather though. I just love all the extra shows, decorations, etc. not to mention the minimal crowds and the fact that it is value season! So like you said it's a postponement not a cancellation. I guess I shouldn't complain anyways. Not as many people are as fortunate to take the vacations we do. I do a lot of budgeting and planning to make these trips possible though.

ChibiJones- I feel for you. I'm sorry to hear that your trip is cancelled also. It's so hard when you have your heart set on something and then POOF it's gone. At least you have March to look forward to and you know what? It will be here before you know it. Time goes by so quickly especially the older you get!LOL

Mishetta- I'm sorry to hear about your mom. It will be hard for you I'm sure. I'm sorry about all your postponing also. Just think of all the fun you will have in December though. Like I said, that's my favorite time to visit. The first time we traveled with DS (on a BIG trip) he was 14 months old and I didn't find it hard at all. The next big trip he was just a little over 2(maybe by a month) and we went to WDW for a few nights. He had a BLAST. It was also easy because he stayed in the stoller the whole time we were in the parks except for when we were on the rides. He still likes to stay in the stroller and he is 4. We learned after the first trip to the parks that it was MUCH easier to just rent a stoller(we always rent the double one so we can put everything in it plus he would lie down and nap)than to lug our own onto the busses, monorail, etc. Plus they handle so nicely. The only ones we didn't really care for were the ones in MGM although we still preferred it over our own. We have always brought our own crib as I am with you about "community cribs" but for pure ease I may reconsider this on our next trip. We all share the same beds and pillows just fresh sheets, right? And I also agree that there is never enough vacation days when you are parents!!!LOL

Dan, as always thanks for your kind words. You have a way with making things seem better! I neede that!

Sorry this response is SO long! I'll go now!!

I am another one who found infants easier to travel with than older babies. We took our still nursing DS to Hawaii without any trouble at all. Of course, we DID have a whole giant suitcase with all his "stuff", but it was no big deal!

Kim,

If it's any consolation, St. Pete isn't all that terrific. I live about 15-20 miles away and can't even think of one good reason to go to St. Pete...

FOJMO-
Actually we were suppose to go to Madeira Beach. We have been in the past and liked the beach itself and enjoy John's Pass. I prefer the Bradenton area but the beaches are a little rougher on the feet-lots of broken shells! I also enjoy the Clearwater area. The beach there reminds me alot of my favorite beach here in Ogunquit, Me. Just beautiful powder sand!!
