I'm 43, and I was just "carded"?... while buying....

I know in our state now when you buy stuff like claritin-d they card you and get your info I guess the state is keeping up with who and how much is purchase. I tried to buy some sort of batteries for my boss recently and the girl said the register wouldn't scan that many I had to put 1 back. I asked her why and she wasn't sure so I asked a cop friend who said something in it was used in meth.

In Illiniois there's limits on how much decong. you can purchase. Just in case your opening up a meth lab and purchase your drugs at the local pharmacy. Don't let you kids get sick more than the allotted time.

Almost any cold meds that were once bought over-the-counter at all Wal-Marts in FLA are now empty shelves. You have tags in those spaces and you have to go to the pharmacy with the tag in your hand, to buy the cold product. Last time I did this, I sneezed on the pharmacist. Served him right for making me wait in line.

On a more serious note, I wouldn't mind being carded for any reason. It's been awhile and I look d_ _n good for my age!!! :teeth:

we've had this to deal with for a couple years now. First the county passed laws to put anything containing pseudoephedrine beind the counter, then the state did too. Meth making is a huge problem in Iowa, and the laws have helped reduce the number of labs.

I buy Dimetapp every time I think of it, whether the kids need it or not, just so I have it on hand. when they get sick and are both taking it, we go through a bottle pretty fast. Same thing with the adult cold meds. All stores have to see your ID and either write down the info or swipe it. there are limits on how much you can get per month.

I work in a grocery store and we no longer carry some things on the shelf either. I was under the understanding that it is not that we can't carry the item on the shelf but since we are now limited on what we can sell, theft will increase for those using it for the wrong purpose. We also have to have the customer i.d. and sign a form for anyone apearing under the age of 40. So as a double precaution, we now only carry the items behind a glass case and we retrieve whatever the customer wants.

Alot of customers complain but its a Federal law so we have to do what they say or be shut down. Every month or so, a DEA officer comes in and checks that we are keeping the forms and checking out the names. We have had ALOT of meth labs busted lately, a couple in the trunks of cars. Guess they are going mobile these days.

Here in Indiana too! LOL on the allotted time!!

The packages they are selling are much smaller than usual and it bugs me that I can't look at numerous brands to compare them before I decide.

Our Wal-Mart has just put the powdered baby formula behind the counter. The clerk told Dh it was because people were stealing it and usuing it for drugs. BABY FORMULA?? Now that is something I have never heard of. No other store in my area has done that yet but I wonder if they will follow soon.

Anyone know what that is all about?

Makes me think some day us ladies will all have hairy legs because they keep the razors behind the counter and the line will always be to long to bother with. LOL :rotfl: You know there are so many bad things you could do with a razor.

Yes, we also keep our baby formula behind the customer service desk as well. We do it for several reasons, 1. Theft. 2. Safety precautions, especially the powdered. Canned liquid formula is left on the regular shelf. 3. A police officer did tell me that there is also a tie in with drugs, what I don't know. I don't know enough about drugs to understand what he was trying to say.

In our area, we have serveral flea markets close by. There is alot theft in Walmart and grocery stores and then these guys sell the stuff at the flea markets. 100% profit for them. That goes for Cigarettes, razors and certain Health and Beauty items that are expensive. Even pregnancy tests.

When my DD had a bad cold last winter, I couldn't get her cold meds to save my soul. Of course this was on a Sunday afternoon. Living in the sticks -I just couldn't find anything to give her, and DD is really picky. She likes the orange chewable sudfeds. That's it, nothing else.

I actually called the company, and talked to a great customer service rep. She told me several stores carried my product, and one of them was conveninet to my ride home from work. This particular store (where most in this chain have a pharmacy, this one did not) must not have known that this product was supposed to be "behind the counter", since there wasn't a pharmacy counter. There were 5 boxes on the shelf - I bought them all. I am not a meth-maker. I am a mom who needed to find relief from a sick whiney kid!

I am a pharmacy student and yes they now card if an item contains pseudoephedrine (PSE) because like others have stated, people take the Pseudoephedrine and convert it to methamphetamine (I think it takes like one chemical reaction). There is also a limit here in FL too! Most formulations are now changing to phenylephrine (different chemical molecule can't convert it ) so they can stay on the shelves. I hate having to ask for ID but it is a must.

Also in Nebraska. You are limited to 2 purchases of any item with pseudoephedrine, child or adult. They scan your driver's license. Very frustrating for those of us that want to stock up at WalMart on kid and adult cold meds - I don't exactly live next door to a pharmacy in rural Nebraska!

I wonder if these new controls will show a corelation to reduced meth use in 5 years? I think not...those that want will find a way.

Same here. The police come in and review the log of who bought the stuff and compare to other stores see if the same people are buying a lot.

I saw a woman get carded just today at Walgreens while buying some sort of cold medicine.

I've heard baby formula is being cut into drugs like cocaine and heroine. However, I think a lot more people are just stealing it and trying to resell it.

The last time I went to buy Sudafed, the clerk looked me over (I guess having two children in tow didn't get me carded), had to get the manager, who also looked at me, then went into a locked office to retrieve the Sudafed I wanted. The clerk cheerfully said, "At least we didn't have to take your name and address!"

Yep and I found out that you can't buy 2 liquids at the same store within 24 hours. REALLY stinks when you have a kiddo that can't take pills.

My DD had a cough/cold coming on and we were going to Great America the next day. I wanted a night time version for her to get a good night's sleep and then a daytime version for her for the next day. No can do anymore! You are allowed 2 pill versions of things but that would do me absolutely no good since she would just gag on them anyway.

Actually, it worked out since I had to pick one, I went with the daytime version. A couple days later I found a nighttime version, so at least it saved me the extra $$. :rotfl:

Oh well...at least they still let me get regular Tylenol in various forms at one time (Having the ages of my kids, I usually have 3 different versions -- infant, children's & Juniors! ;) ).

Yup, I got carded for cold medecine not too long ago at Riteaid and their system actually required that they input my drivers license info into the computer so that my psuedophedrine usage could be monitored.

I also have had a difficult time finding our usual cold medecines. The kids' pediatrician likes them to take a decongestant and expectorant with nothing else in it. Around here, I could only find that combination from Triaminic and Robitussin. Well, the kids hate the taste of Robitussin (don't blame them, I did too as a kid), so my only option is Triaminic Chest and Nasal, which Walmart has stopped carrying.

It's getting to the point where I'm going to have to ask the pediatrician for prescription for cold medecine!!!!! And due to the new laws, we'll be limited as to how much we can buy in 30 days.
