Illuminations Questions

Has the Illuminations show at EPCOT changed in the past few years? I thought it was changing or going away, but can’t find anything on it. My brother loves the show, so I’m hoping it’s the same.

Also, our trip is in June and we have a ressie for Tokyo Dining at 8PM. Do you think this time will work for viewing the show from the deck?

I heard they are getting rid of the globe next year and the drones are coming in, but this is from a totally unofficial source. No significant change at the moment.

Edit: by next year, I actually mean 2018 so this year, but again, this is from an unofficial source.

Oh I really hope there's zero truth to that! I'd be very disappointed in that change.

From my understanding the few changes are very minor at the present time, the show is essentially the same, however, as stated by pp, there is lots of talk of either a significant upgrade or new show altogether in the coming years, especially with the big plans that Disney has for the park..

The globe just went through a significant refurb and repair effort in order to make it perform as designed, and finally once again, it does. During a few months, it didn't open and when it did, there were no fireworks shot from the center flame. I haven't heard officially about replacing the globe with drones or anything else anytime soon. There will have to be a replacement show sooner rather than later though.

A related question, when did the current show featuring the globe begin its run? I have a video from early March 1999 minus the globe with dolphins etc played on a screen of water droplets but the next one I have is from years later when the globe was in effect.

Whenever the millennium celebration started, I think, and it became Illuminations 2000. Wikipedia says October 1, 1999.
