Illuminations question....

Missed out on reserving the Illuminations cruise this morning so I'm now wondering where is the best location for viewing and how far ahead of time do we need to get there before the show? We're going in July.

Anywhere around WS is fine. Make sure trees are not in your line of sight and before picking your spot see which way the wind is coming...you don't want to get smoked out. I would recommend an hour in advance if you want to be right on the wall.

We had a great spot on the bridge by Mexico last year.

You can get away with an hour in May. In June and July people start to stake thier claims almost two hours prior. By 1 hour prior the rail around the lake is packed. I don't see why though. The little laser show in the lagoon is cool but not worth 2 hours of my life. The fireworks, which are awesome, can be seen from the Boardwalk. You don't have to be right on top of the rail to see them.

Don't give up so easily! Check the thread to share a cruise.
Keep calling and checking for cancellations.
When you arrive at WDW, pay a visit to, or call Bayside Marina at the Yacht Club, tell them you are on Disney Property, that you would like to be on the cancellation list and most importantly give them a phone number (cell phone is best) to reach you.
Cancellations do happen!

If you do not happen to find a cruise to share for your trip, the best places I recommend to watch Illuminations is by England or France - both have wonderful views, just make sure you get a spot early.

I forgot to add this: We shared an Illuminations Cruise last year with some DIS'rs and had a wonderful time. It was great to meet people from the boards, and also saved us money for the cruise. Dh was so impressed, he wants to do it again on our next trip!!
