Illuminations Dinner and fireworks grand gathering

Has anyone done the illuminations grand gathering dinner and desert? Is it worth the price - also, if you were on the dining plan did you think it was worth the double dinner credit???

We have a big group going down and trying to decide between that and maybe ohana's or any other recommendations would be great. We are looking for something the first night - we arrive in Orlando around 11 am - so thinking we'll get checked in and go to a park and do a fun dinner.
