ILLUMINATIONS CRUISES-What they are--How to book--FIND ONE TO SHARE

Yipee! :cool1: We were able to get through this morning. We booked May 3rd for Illuminations.

I am looking for folks who would like to share, no children under the age of 5 please.

I will divide the cost amongst the total amount of people. So if the cruise is $150 and I get 6 people it will be divided 6 ways. I have to verify the cost.

PM me if you are interested.

Nicole

I wanted to share a couple of tips with everyone. I was able to secure an IllumiNations cruise (after multiple tries) for April 22, and thought I would share a tip one of the CM's told me.

After being frustrated for many mornings (I started calling 3 days before my "preferred" date, just so I wouldn't be completely shut out), I called back one afternoon, and got a very nice CM on the phone. I jokingly asked her what I was doing wrong, and if she had any tips on how to get the boats. (Plus, I was getting conflicting reports from every CM I talked to on how many boats there actually were available for these cruises).

The one thing she told me was to make sure you blurt out that you want an IllumiNations Cruise the moment the CM answers the phone, and mention checking the YC marina first. She said the cruises come up in alphabetical order on their screens - the Boardwalk Marina is listed first (which also has fewer boats available), and then the Yacht Club is listed later. She said she always checks the YC first for people (even if they don't ask) because most CM's check things in alphabetical order. So, the ones departing from the Boardwalk marina are always taken first, and by the time your CM could then check the YC marina, those could be gone as well.

Well, I tried this, and had no problem getting one the very next day. And my preferred day, no less! I also had my parents calling as welll, and they both ended up with boats, too. This method really works! And now, we have a great surprise for my husband's 30th!

Also, instead of going through all the different prompts (and wasting time), I pressed "4", and then pressed "1" (when asking if I was calling from Orlando...). I did this by accident one day during the afternoon - I was put immediately into the calling queue, and the CM never said anything about my wanting a date beyond the 7-day window prompt 1 mentions. Just another hint.

Incidentally, I plan to call this evening and release the extra IllumiNations cruise I'm holding on April 22 - don't need two! So, I hope someone here is able to snatch it up. Good luck!

There are a total of 6 boats.
ONE Pontoon Boat is dispatched from the BoardWalk Marina.
Breathless is dispatched from Bayside Marina (Yacht Club Resort).
THREE Pontoon Boats are dispatched from Bayside Marina (Yacht Club Resort)
This leaves ONE more pontoon boat, it too is dispatched from Bayside Marina, but it is set aside for Platinum Plan guests. When a guest is on the Platinum Plan, they are entitled to one Fireworks Cruise (Wishes or IllumiNations). The guests are booked until the limit of 10 ppl is reached. Some nights there are 10, some nights as few as two. IF there are no guests booked on this boat it is released as a regular cruise.

Any questions?

I just called the Walt Disney Sports & FW Cruises # (407-939-7529) and listened to the prompts. It directs you to dial 3 for recreation, boat rental & fishing excrusions, and 4 for current WDW weather. I know that when I called in last week for our fishing excursion that the prompt was 4 - I even wrote it down. What's up??!! :confused3

I am going to try this again...
I am going to make a reservation either way for May 21-26, not sure which day yet. Would anyone be interested in joining my boyfriend and I? It would be a surprise for him.

Woah - I thought you had to do it on the 90th day before - I really want to do this cruise on my wedding night - should I call up today??

Yes, it's 90 days out to book- unless you have a silver package (read Crazy Hakim above)

Come and post here only if..
A. You are posting because you want to join someone's party- simply state who is in your group and # and what dates you are hoping for.
B. YOU ALREADY booked a cruise and are listing it for other's to read.

Illuminations cruises are a fun and special way to view the Illuminations fireworks at Epcot. These cruises are very popular and require some advance planning in order to get a reservation.

You will tour seven seas lagoon prior to the beginning of Illuminations and be entertained, by your boat's pilot, with Disney trivia and views of the Boardwalk and other resorts, then you anchor beneath a bridge for an unobstructed view of the fireworks. One of the things we enjoyed the most about our Illuminations cruise was being able to just get off the boat and go to our car without fighting the huge crowd that was leaving Epcot afterwards.

Illuminations cruises are technically called "Specialty Cruises". There are 3 levels and prices for these cruises and you can read about them HERE.

There are only 5 boats available for this activity and they depart either from Boardwalk or Yacht/Beach Club Marina:

Pontoon Boats: Only 4 pontoon boats are available for this cruise. The cost is $150 plus 6% tax for the boat (this includes the pilot). Each pontoon boat will accommodate up to 10 adults or 12 passengers if some of them are children. The cost is not determined by the number of passengers, so sharing a cruise is good idea if you want to reduce cost.

The Breathless: This is a reproduction of a 1930's ChrisCraft Runabout. It will accommodate a maximum of 7 passengers. The cost is $175 plus 6% tax. This boat departs only from the Yacht &Beach Club Marina. This vessel has more speed than the pontoons.

In addition to the basic cost of the cruise, you should allow a gratuity for the Captain. We had 4 passengers on our cruise and tipped our Captain $25. He did a great job and paid special attention to my 6 year old nephew, my dh says now, that he wishes he had tipped him more, because he just made the whole experience wonderful.

How to book an Illuminations Cruise:

You need to call 407-939-7529 exactly 90 days before the date you want to reserve. You can determine when to call by using the DIS's priority seating calculator if you CLICK HERE

Since these cruises are so much in demand, start calling about 6:55 am est. If you get a recording that they are not open yet, disconnect and immediately hit redial. If you get the recording thanking you for calling hit #4 right away, as soon as the second recording begins press #2, when the third recording begins press either your reservation number or phone number and finish with the pound sign. Then press #1, then #2. This will take you to a reservationist, if you have to hold do not disconnect or you go to the bottom of the queue.

When the reservationist answers do not make small talk, immediately tell him/her that you want to reserve the 8PM specialty cruise for such and such date. Do not ask to reserve an Illuminations cruise or you will waste time hearing that there is no such thing. After you get your reservation you can talk all you want, but these cruises are very difficult to reserve and seconds count when thousands of people are competing for only 5 boats.

When the reservationist indicates that you have obtained the reservation, tell him/her that you want to see Illuminations. He/she will then make arrangements for your cruise to depart the marina about 1/2 hour before Illuminations begins.

You will be told that they cannot guarantee that you will see Illuminations. They tell you this because, if Illuminations is delayed for any reason, your boat will still return to the marina at the end of your hour. So far, there have been no known instances where Illuminations was not seen.

If you have flexibility in your WDW itinerary, it is best to try to reserve a cruise for the first night you have available. That way, if you don't get the reservation, you can try the next day and the next, if necessary.

If you are unable to secure a reservation for an Illuminations cruise, do not give up. Cancellations happen every day. Keep calling and trying for that reservation, even when you are in WDW. I was told by a captain of one of these cruises that his boat has often sat idle because someone cancelled. You can snag a cancellation. I know, because I was lucky enough to get a cancelled cruise only 6 weeks before our trip last year.

You can also sometimes find someone who has a reservation already and is willing to share the space and cost of his cruise with you. The Illuminations Cruise Central posts on the Theme Parks board are there to help people match up for these cruises. There is an Illuminations Cruise Central for each month, beginning 3 months ahead of time.

If you want to try to find a cruise to share, or if you have a reservation for a cruise already and are willing to share with others please post to the appropriate Illuminations Cruise Central. Here are links to the current posts:

ILLUMINATIONS CRUISE CENTRAL FOR JANUARY

ILLUMINATIONS CRUISE CENTRAL FOR FEBRUARY

ILLUMINATIONS CRUISE CENTRAL FOR MARCH

ILLUMINATIONS CRUISE CENTRAL FOR APRIL

Good luck getting a reservation for an Illuminations Cruise, I hope this information is helpful to you.

Hello Everyone!
I am excited to say that through these boards I have been able to book a curise!
I orginally wanted a pontoon for May 6th but when I got though they were all gone.
The cast member checked however for the Breathless.....and I GOT IT!!!
I am so excited to be doing this boat! I never dreamed of being able to get it especiall with calling late (7:45).

I would like to say thank you to everyone on this forum and let you all know that YOU ROCK!!

May 1st Illuminations Cruise to Share

*Cruise will be leaving from the Yacht Club Marina*

Each Cruise seats up to 10 Adults and 2 Children, for a cost of $140.

There are four adults so far, so we have room for up to 6 Adults and 2 Children.

Cost will be divided equally.

Families welcome, if anybody is interested in sharing send me a PM :)

Sorry, I don't see a May thread so I'll post here. I am looking at reserving a cruise (hopefully) or joining someone on a cruise. My available days are May 8 to the 12th. If you are interested in joining me or if you have a cruise booked that I could join, please message me.

There are only 2 of us - me and my 5 year old (fairly well behaved) daughter.

I am not sure if anyone would know off hand if and what the cast members get as a discount on the cruises? ... my boyfriend is a cast member (a college rep) and I would love to surprise him, but if he gets a sweet discount I might have to let him in on the plans (unless we can present it when we pay because then he wouldnt have to know till the last minute!) Any help would be wonderful!

I am looking to share a cruise for any of these three nights. It will be just DH and myself.

I'm planning on going to Illuminations, and noticed on my Silver package that we get 'preferred viewing'. But I've seen posts saying the preferred area is in Morocco and its terrible.

Has anyone had different preferred seating for the Silver Package?
Why would Disney make special seating 'worse'?

Maybe I'll have to book a pontoon, but then I've seen complaints about those too. Saying the bridge they're under has people on it viewing the same thing for free!

How disappointing.

Currently there are NO Discounts applied to IllumiNations Cruises, cast member, DVC or otherwise.

My daughter and I are looking to join an illumination cruise on any evening 3/2-3/6 if anyone has availability. :cool1:

We still have 3 or 4 spaces available.

If you are interested in joining us for a "Wishes" cruise on Friday, February 25th leaving from the Polynesian Dock please pm or email me at:

So you still had 8 ppl to divide the cost with and you cancelled it???? And they are so hard to get! Im sure someone will be thrilled that they can book a cruise so late in advance.

Actually,

I DID NOT have 8 people to share the cost.

We had 2 families originally interested, but they both decided to cancel due to their schedules.

I could not afford the cost of this cruise by myself (single mom with 2 kids)

I am not sure if it was because it was a "Wishes" cruise rather than an Illuminations cruise, but either way, If people had been interested, I think I would have had some replies?

What would you do? Pay $150 and hope someone is interested?

We are leaving in less that 2 weeks and I am sure I can find another way to spend the amount I had set aside for the cruise on something else Disney ::yes:: .

We are going to have a GREAT time, no matter what!!! :cheer2:
