Did anyone else feel this? I woke up at exactly 4am and literally jumped out of bed. I thought it was a strong wind due to the blizzard warnings but just saw on cnn there was a 4.3 earthquake in west/northwest illinois right before 4am. Now, I'm freaked...I wish it was just a strong gust of wind.

Where do you live? We didn't feel anything, :confused3 and are reasonably close to where it was located (we're in Crystal Lake, and I heard Sycamore on the news, but my cousin said Gilberts). We didn't have anything fall off walls or shelves, didn't knock us out of bed, nothing! Darn it.:headache:

I was the only one in our house that felt it. At first I thought that it was a plow or a plane but then I immediately thought earthquake. The weird thing is that the night before I had a dream that I saw two planes crash in the airport behind our house. In my dream one just missed our house (our yard borders a small airport). It was just some shaking that last about 10 seconds or so. Nothing fell off the shelves. Actually this is the 3rd one that I remember feeling as an adult. The first one was in '86 or '87 when we lived in Hinsdale. The last two were here in Bolingbrook.

My sympathies from Texas. I've felt that twice, but neither time was an earthquake. The first was an industrial plant exploding when I was 10, killing several workers, including my best friend's father. :sad1: The house shook like nothing we'd ever experienced. The second time was when the space shuttle crashed about 100 miles away and that also shook the house, waking us up from a sound sleep. I thought the plant had exploded again. :scared1: I still can't believe we felt it so far away.

An earthquake? After the two "shakings" I've experienced, (both involving multiple deaths) I don't know if my nerves could take it. So sorry! What a way to start the day....... Blizzard warning AND an earthquake......What's next? A plague of locusts? :confused3

Darn it? :confused3

I felt it! Woke me up and scared me half to death. I though either something crashed outside my house or someone was breaking in!
And of course, even with the snow and now the earthquake, I still have to go to school...

So you WANTED to feel an earthquake? :confused3

Well, that's just not fair! You guys have to put up with blizzards AND earthquakes?! It seems as though one or the other should be enough.

It was a pretty useless earthquake. It didn't even knock the 14" of snow off my car. ;)

I know it is hard to joke about earthquakes considering how devastating they can be but this was just downgraded to a 3.8.

I love how we got a blizzard and an earthquake all within 24 hours :confused3:headache::scared1:

I'm so scared about the fault line that's in downstate IL. They say when it becomes active (I can't think of the right term!! maybe active is right??) It will flatten St. Louis :scared1: and I bet it would do a whole lot of damage to Chicago too.

We felt it. My whole house shook. At first I thought it was the wind but I knew better. I went down to the basement to make sure nothing had blown up in the utility room. LOL When I turned on the news later, it was the major headline. I was like," wow that's what shook my house!"

When DH called from Florida, I told him and he thought I was joking. I told him to go to ABC7 Chicago online.

Sure! As long as it's a mild one, I'd like to know what the sensation feels like. I surely wouldn't have wanted to be in California during a major one, or heaven forbid in Haiti -- wouldn't wish that on anyone -- but if it's going to happen, and be a small one, I'd have liked to have felt it. FWIW, my husband thinks I'm nuts too.

Haha, you sound like my coworker, who also lives in Crystal Lake. She keeps saying she wants a 'do over' because she slept through it...

As for me, I grew up in Nor. Cal and have felt my fair share of Earthquakes. I blissfully slept through it, but... can't help but have a tinge of worry... I assume my high rise isn't retrofitted for earthquakes and hope we don't ever get a bit one. :scared1:

Didn't feel a thing.

Charley - my dog - woke up at 3:55, and I only know that because I was confused as to why he was leaving my bed.

I watched him leave, rolled over and went back to bed.

He woke up for it - I did not. I'm in Downers Grove, though.

Slept right through it. I heard about it when I was watching tv trying to figure out if the schools were closed. According to the news we got 11.9 inches of snow but yet the schools are still in sessions. Lombard the next town over got 9 inches and called all their schools off. :confused3 Sure wish our school district gave two hoots about the safety and welfare of our children.

Yep, it woke me up at 4:00AM! Downers Grove here and I felt it. My whole bed was shaking like crazy. I was about to yell at my DH to stop shaking the bed! I thought maybe he was dreaming or kind of got startled in his sleep or something. When I noticed he was sleeping and the shaking was lasting a bit longer, I thought maybe a snow plow or something hit our house. It was strange.

I finally fell back asleep. My Mom stayed over and she said it woke her up. She was on the bottom bunk of my DD's room and she was yelling at my DD to stop shaking the bed. DD slept through the whole thing.

I didn't realize it was an earthquake until I saw the news this morning. I slept through the last one awhile back.

Nothing knocked off shelves or anything. Just my bed was shaking like crazy.
