Those poignant last notes left by the trapped miners in West Virginia.

"I'll see them on the other side. It wasn't bad. I just went to sleep. I love you."

I had tears in my eyes as I read that story.

Reminded me of all the last messages left by the victims of the 9/11 tragedies to their loved ones.

Heartbreaking and Heartwarming all at the same time.

Very moving indeed. May these notes bring some sort of peace to the families.

I definately tear up every time I see that note. What a beautiful message to leave to a family member, what a wonderful faith in God.

That is a wonderful gift he gave to his family.

Doesn't it make you wonder what YOU'D do under similar circumstances? Would you have the grace to write a comforting note, or you would be writing "Sue 'em!!!"

I was teary through the first part of the story, but didn't actually cry until the speculation that the older miners might have given the youngest their oxygen...wow...what a selfless gift. I can only hope I'd rise to the challenge of facing death half as well...

Heartbreaking. It has to comfort the families to know they didn't suffer. I just feel so bad for them. I was trying not to cry while I was watching it at the gym.

I personally would like to say thank you to the family which shared their precious note with the nation! How gracious of them!

I am stunned that the miners left those notes. I wonder if I would have the presence of mind in similar circumstances to do the same. What magnificent men.

This is kind of random, but the thought that keeps occurring to me is that there were also 12 original Apostles...

agnes!

Wow, that was really something to see that note. I can't imagine what thoughts would be going through my head if I had to write a note like that knowing you are going to die and not see your loved ones just one more time to say good-bye. :sad2:

Its surreal to see the note. I don't think that I would be able to write one if it was me. I mean, I never met these men, and i got all teary looking at the note. It does make you realize that tomorrow isn't a promise. When you think about someone dying, you think about them being sick for awhile. not just going to work one morning.

Kind of off topic ....

Katy Couric mentioned on the Today Show that it had been suggested that some of the miners might have given Randy, the lone survivor, some of their oxygen since he had small children. I don't know if this is true but what a touching story if it is true!
