Sunday 19 December

You know that moment when you wake up and realise the world is a little too bright and a little too quiet outside? That moment when you realise it’s snowed all night? Well we had that moment when we woke up on the Sunday. A quick peek out of the curtains confirmed that it was deep and crisp and even outside.

It didn’t deter us, of course, we just wrapped up in many many layers after our early breakfast and set off or the Park for EMH. We did our usual round of 2 goes on Buzz and then a ride on Pinocchio and Peter Pan and then decided to wander around taking some photos of the winter wonderland.

Once Frontierland opened we went in there for some more snapping. I think the photos speak for themselves.

We went to have a look round Santa’s workshop.

Then we had a look around a snowy Cabane des Robinsons.

Not surprisingly there were a few rides that weren’t running, but of course POTC is always open and always warm so we went in there.

We went over to Studios and Dtr went on RnR Coaster and then we wandered round Toy Story Playland. We went back out to the Village ready for our Sunday Brunch at the Steakhouse. This was again a bit of a disappointment – few characters and not so much choice of food. It seems a real shame as this place used to be buzzing with great atmosphere, loads of character interaction and plenty of buffet choices.

After lunch we went back to the hotel. We both read for a while, warming up and letting lunch go down, then Dtr went for a swim while I had a doze. We had decided this would be a relaxed trip and it wasn’t difficult to keep to that agreement.

When we got ready to go back to the Parks, we were pleased to see it was raining and the snow had started to melt.

Dtr got ready..

We went to the Studios again

– all rides were now open and we went on RC Racer and then on Slinky and then TOT. (When I say WE, you realise that I mean we both queued for the scary rides, but only Dtr gets on. It’s not like I’ve had a sudden conversion to thrill seeker!)

Back in the Park we had time to ride IASW, Snow White and Pinocchio before getting in place to watch Fantillusion. Ahhhhhhh so lovely! After this we went to Frontierland for rides on Phantom Manor and BTM before leaving the Park.

As we queued to go in the Village I heard a very harassed mother next to me (one baby, one toddler) talking to her husband. It was clear from what she said that they had been due to go home that night, but the Eurostar had been cancelled due to the snow – things were pretty bad back in England. They had just been allocated a hotel room for the night and were very stressed out by it all.

Ah, this was not part of the plan. You may think you’d be thrilled to be snowed in at Disneyland but in reality it throws up a whole load of problems. Where do you stay? What about meals? Eeek – what about underwear?!

Deep breath……..we still had another 2 days to go……there was no point worrying just then. If it had started to thaw in France, perhaps it would start to thaw in the UK too.

We went back to the hotel, had our hot chocolate, read a bit more of our books (I was reading a Christmas thriller – it was so nice to be snuggled up in a bed at Sequoia Lodge reading a Christmassy book) before settling down to sleep.

Sounds lovely! Wish I was there too!!:santa:

Very true ~ we always laugh and say what better place to be stranded etc etc but the snow last winter and the ash clouds the previous spring proved it's not so much fun after all.
