IKEA - what and what not to buy?

We have 2 ikea beds, 2 tv stands, a desk, a pot rack, a coffee table and side table, a really nice wooden cutting board and many others. The stuff is so affordable, and it all works great. One bed I've had for atleast 4 years. Also my sister had a bed for 2 years and the only reason she gave it up was due to moving across the country and not being able to transport it, but it was hard for her to give it up. All the stuff we have holds up really well. We also have our kitchen chairs that we got 3 years ago:

man, we've got a lot of IKEA stuff. When we moved to philly we didn't have much at all so we bought most of our stuff at ikea because it's so affordable. ok I'll stop rambling now. Just incase you weren't aware, I really like ikea stuff :)

tricia.

Listen, I travel over 1 hour to go to an IKEA in Canada just to get my fix..buy as much as your car ( and checkbook) can handle.

Now I have the feeling I need to plan a trip!

I am sure that DH thanks you ;)

Older DS bought a bed there in March. It's a "slat" bed that you put a mattress on - you don't need a box spring. Well, the slats are wiggly, so he falls through onto the floor along with the mattress at night.

Younger DS bought a dresser that came in 2 boxes - only we didn't know that you needed two boxes - got all the way home & started to put it together when he noticed the "1 of 2 boxes" - he was able to go back & get the other piece - but what a hassle!

If I were a newlywed, I'd really go for their furniture - but at my advanced age, it just doesn't fit me. (It's a nice step-up from the painted particle board we had in our first apt!)

The several times I have stopped at the Houston location, it's always been a zoo
I know what you mean. The first time we went to the one here in Houston, it was a mad house. I don't know if we've just been lucky, but whenever we want to go now we make sure we're there before they open. There's usually about an hour of nice small crowds before the hordes arrive.

We recently bought a TV bench and coffee table from Ikea and really like them both. Also, they were easier to put together than I thought they would be and the instructions were very easy to understand.

My son's "bedroom" is built out of Ikea bookcases and an Ikea wardrobe in one corner of the (finished) basement. We have a TON of their bookcases. DD has an Ikea dresser. My desk is Ikea, and I love it. (I'm sitting at it as I type this.) Our coffee table and china cabinet are also Ikea. Now that I think of it, so is the wicker chair I'm sitting in right now. I want to get back there soon; there are some more things I want.

I DON'T like the real modern, Scandinavian style, but the "antique stain" stuff we have in the living room is not as stark.

Their web page is awful, and has only the tiniest percentage of the merchandise on it. Even the catalog has only a small amount of stuff in it compared to what's in the stores.

Plan on spending LOTS of time there!
