We went to Ikea for the first time today - a little overwhelming but found some items for our kids rooms and some gadgets. We were impressed by their kitchens and are in the process of pursuing a possible remodel of ours kitchen... they look great but I need more ino.

Has anyone had their kitchen remodeled by IKEA or do you know anyone who has? Would love to hear any opinions - good or bad! Thanks....

Can't help you, but on first reading thought it said "purchased a kitten" and was wondering if they want you to put that together yourself.

Haven't had our kitchen remodeled by IKEA, but IMO, their furniture isn't the highest quality out there. I'd be a bit reluctant to have them do the remodel.
Last year, we had Home Depot redo out kitchen cabinets and install a granite countertop and it turned out perfectly. For about 28' of linear counter space and cabinets, including installation, it cost about $15,000. A pretty fair price to pay for the end result!! I'd look there as well before you go forward.

I just wanted to say that we went to IKEA last night and was VERY overwhelmed by the place. Lots of cool stuff and we ate in the cafeteria.

We picked up knicks-knacks here and there. I have to go back in the morning ALONE...many times.

As far as the kitchen stuff, lots of different styles. But I would shop around and compare.
I did like the appliances with IKEA labeled on them.

I was thinking about getting their cabinets when I re-do my kitchen. But, that's because I don't plan on being here that long. But in order for me to sell the place, I have to put in new cabinets because these are falling apart.

If you decide to go with them, let me know how they are. :)

Thanks everyone for your help.... I wish re-doing the kitchen was an easy process - so many decisions, money and time..... would love any other input! :flower:

I haven't had my entire kitchen done, but DH and I bought 2 pantry units and an over the fridge cupboard from Ikea and we are very happy with it!
They have a 10yr guarantee and it looks great and we're so happy to finally have a storage solution for our tiny 1940's kitchen.

I re did my kitchen with Ikea and absolutely love it. It was incredibly cheaper than anything I have ever seen and very easy to install. The insides are all the same, the difference in price occurs with the doors of the cabinets which can range from MFD to beech, oak etc. When we re did my kitchen I did not move anything except the sink which I moved over a little bit. I simply replaced my cabinetry and I had my brother install it. They have a video and my brother was amazed at how easy it was to put up. He was also impressed with the quality! They have a program that you can download so that you can plan where you would like cabinets, appliances, etc. Then you can view it three dimensionally- which helped me immensely. My kitchen is quite small 9 x14 but it cost me only around $5000.00 Cdn including my flooring, sink, and countertop. I did not change my appliances. the cabinets and countertopfrom Ikea were $2200.00 Cdn- which included a pullout pantry. I went to Home Depot and found that the insides(KraftMaid) were almost identical to Ikea- don't discount Ikea. Do your homework- look at how the drawers work, how the hinges are used, etc. Look at the high end stuff and see what you are paying for- do you want dovetailed joints?

Just read an article in Oprah's magazine about a curator in New York who re-did an apartment she just bought and she did her kitchen with Ikea and put in a Corian countertop.

Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your new kitchen whatever you decide to do. If you have any questions, do not be shy :sunny:

The person who said Ikea furniture is not the highest quality is right BUT their kitchens are not the same quality. I have lots of IKEA stuff in my house and although we don't have an IKEA kitchen we do have Ikea cabinetry in our bathroom and it is hardwood and good quality. We have had it for about 5 years.
Although I said the other stuff isn't great quality I still think they offer a great value- and they have lots of creative storage products- really helps us make the most of the space in our small house -We love IKEA.

ITA! I did my kitchen a few years ago and it took me about 4 years of planning and dreaming to get it the way I wanted it.

I didn't go with IKEA but we have alot of stuff from there and one of our bathrooms has a cabinet from there in it. It has held up very well in spite of the sauna that my DH and DS produce in there.

On a side note I got my granite countertops from Home Depot and would not use them again, nor will a friend of mine.

Hmmm.... I think we will take a serious look at the Ikea kitchens. We really need to update but don't want to spend much over $15,000.

Louise-Montreal - I may be e-mailing you for more info!
