II membership?

DVC members are not actually members of II and cannot in any scenario contact II directly about DVC, trade directly with II or access the web site. One must be an owner at an II resort to join II and DVC does not qualify. Furthermore, if one is an II member, they will won't deal with you direclty about DVC.

this leads me to question why I got the II book listing all the resorts in the world they have part of thier program. and then a few days later got a package with an II membership card with a member number on it and statsing my home resort is Disney Vacation Club with week number 56 and unit type as floating.

my questions are:

so I can just toss these as I can't do anything with them?

why did I get these?

does everybosy get these?

Thanks
Mike

Interesting. We never got that. Maybe something has changed.

I haven't heard of anyone receiving an II membership when becoming a DVC member. I wouldn't toss it, you may want to use it at some point. I'd like one myself. And I wonder what week 56 is - it probably just means you have a floating week.

Yeah I was quite surprised when I recieved the Resorts book. It is like a Xmas catalog from a depratment store in size. and then a few days later when I got another package from them with the mebership card in it really threw me, as I had never heard of people getting these for thier DVC ownership interests.

DownOnTheBW - that's what I guessed too. That 56 means it is not a set week.

Anyone know who I should call about this? MS, MA (Accounting), II or my sales guide?

Mike

I don't know who you'd contact, but I wouldn't throw the stuff away, it might come in handy sometime :D I know we never got that stuff!!

My guess is it's a mistake but I'm also wondering how this mistake can happen. I am a member of II and have tried to register my DVC membership with them. I was told by one Vacation Counselor that there would be no problem (though I knew he was wrong). I let him "add my ownership" but of course it never happened. I too have NEVER heard of this happening before, are you sure you didn't buy another timeshare anywhere. I wonder what would happen if you (1) tried to sign on to the website at Interval International. (2) if they would talk to you if you called II. Either that or something has changed in the last few months or less.

I think 56 means floating week and floating unit. My Paradise Village lists week 54 when I do a search with it or when they ask me do do a deposit. It is also a floating week/floating unit resort.

I'd call your guide and definitely let us know what he/she says.

Well Dean,

I took your "challenge" ;) I went to the II web site and tried to register using the membership number given me and got sent back to the login page, and it had this message
Exchange services are provided exclusively for DVC members by Disney Vacation Club Member Services. Please contact Disney Vacation Club at (800) 800-9800 or (407) 566-3800.

So it seems I can't get into thier website and I am assume I would get the same response if I called them.

must have got sent the stuff by accident. I am guessing they outsource the mailing of the packages and resort books and the "filter" to remove DVC members was not done or failed and I slipped through.

Oh well at least I have a nice catalog to look at resorts from around the world :)

Mike

I was certain that would be the outcome but I hoped I was wrong. I'm still very curious as to how you even got on the list and got the mailing. Still, getting the book is a big plus. The only trouble is it lets you see what else is out there that DVC doesn't let you know about. I'd still call your guide and see what happens, see if you can get any more answers.

I'm not much into exchanging my DVC membership but I'd love to play with it online and see how it stacks up trade power wise against some of my other resorts.

I believe that DVC is the actual II member and acts for DVC members in II exchanges. That's why we just have to pay the $75 exchange fee, not the II annual membership dues. As new owner (inundated with documents) I recall reading that DVC members could join II as individual members if we were willing to pay the annual II dues. Is there any additional benefit to II membership?

I've never seen that and have certainly discussed it in detail with DVC including management and with II. I actually discussed this issue by phone a few years ago with a vice president at II, Craig Irbine. He was a participant on the old Prodicgy board and actually called me about DVC and II regarding the questions and concerns I had. I discussed with Matt Gibbs when he was at DVC as well. If anyone gets very far dealing with II directly, I'd sure like to know. I'm still dumbfounded by Mike getting the II book and member number as I can't see any way it could have happened.

As I referred to earlier, I've actually gone through the entire process with II to actually register DVC only to have it kicked back at the final process with the explanation consistent with the info in this thread. There are other exchange companies that one can use that do not require the resort itself to be a member though most require a deposit first. There are a couple that will do request first and many have no membership fee.

The document is the Disclosure Guide About the II Program (6/2001) that I received with my contract.
PARTICIPATION IN THE INTERVAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM
1.
. . . DVCMC, pursuant to the terms of the Agreement, may elect, in its sole discretion, to enrol DVC Members directly as individual members of Interval (unless a DVC Member objects to such enrollment), in which event the terms and conditions of Interval membership (including payment of a membership fee) will become binding directly on the DVC Member as a condition of the DVC Member's participation in the Interval Exchange Program.
I'm no lawyer but I'd guess the key phrase is "in its sole discretion"!

That I'ved read. It basically gives them the option if they wanted but so far they have had no interest.
