Ignore. Just practicing posting pics

WOW! They were giving a 35% discount on campsites!

Ms. White hasn't aged a bit! Now that is Disney magic!

Here are a few pics from the 1975 archives.....

First up is a pic w/Mr Smee. I am on the left, two family friends on the right. Gee whiz! They even dressed me in loud plaid! ....and knee socks. I don't understand how the Sea World Tee fit into the outfit.
KSCN0008-5.jpg

KFK- I also meant to comment about the Mr. Smee photo. I don't want to be a whiner or anything, but I distinctly recall mention of a photo of KFD and Mr. Smee in River Country?

Are you holding out on us?

But, I have to admit, those knee socks are pretty nice.

Too late!! The magic is gone now. Thanks a lot TCD. You snatched away whatever innocence I had left in me and smashed it to pieces.

I'm really sorry, Dave.

But, I told you not to look.

And while I am smashing the magic, here's a more recent photo of Mr. Smee (August, 2009) . . .

Looks like he has had a lot of work done:

But, he's still losing the battle.

WOW, KFK, you have outdone yourself!

I do, indeed, remember this stage located just outside what is currently the entrance to Ariel's grotto.

TCD got to visit WDW just a few times as a kid. I believe my first visit was in 1975. I distinctly remember sitting at one of the tables near this stage eating lunch. A different stage suddenly elevated from the ground, and there were the Aristocats jamming out just as your photos depict! This was the time of the Banana Splits television program, and I think this was Disney's response. As far as I know, the Aristocats were not a rock band in their movie.

I remember being amazed by the whole thing- especially that the stage just elevated from the ground and the performance began without any introduction or fanfare.

I know I have mentioned this experience on another thread, but I have never seen photos of this. But, it's exactly as I remembered it.

Thanks, KFK!

TCD

You're welcome. I do what I can.

Seriously, I used to love this kind of stuff! This type thing has broader appeal that Ariel's Grotto...IMHO. We only have boys so AG is avoided altogether.

OK- So I was so excited to post about the Aristocats, that I overlooked this photo from KFK:

KSCN0002-4.jpg

What the heck is that under Dopey's hat?

It looks like a space helmet?

What is going on here?

TCD

:rotfl2: That is sooo not visible in the original photo! I can't wait to show KFM! DH thought it was hilarious too!

Spoiler Alert!

Do not look at this post if you are a believer in magic.

Because, I just went looking for a photo that I thought of when I saw KFK's Snow White and Dopey Photo.

This, is what I was looking for:

What the Fort?

I told you not to look.

TCD

I certainly hope someone got fired over this!

What the Fort indeed!

Whoever was in charge of character costume design back then should've been sent straight to the Queen of Hearts....

"OFF WITH THEIR HEAD!"
:rotfl:

Wish they'd give us a 35% discount in July!

I wonder why she stays young and I keep getting older? I guess you need a daily sprinkling of pixie dust. ;)

You've gotta grow up sometime. The world is a cruel, harsh place Dave...it was time you found out! :rotfl:

Believe me it wasn't near as bad as the year our HS marching band performed ahead of the 3:00 MS parade and in preparation had to go "backstage".

The sight of a short pudgy lady zipping up a Mickey suit is almost unbearable. It's been over 25 years and the memory still lingers. Talk about a rude awakening. :sad2:

TCD

I would never purposely hold out.

You should know by now when KFK makes a promise...it will be delivered!

I have to get back into KFM's photo albums to find the photo so it may be a couple of more days. KFD was sitting in a pool chair and it is a very close up shot so there isn't really any background scenery, but you can see the edging around the RC pool. That's about it. Still it was Mr. Smee and KFD...at River Country. That alone is worthy of scanning.

The socks....:sad2: what's the deal with the knee socks? every pic....knee socks!

I agree that Mr. Smee is losing the battle. Did he have that work done in a foreign country? You can see the seams on his arms!

Still ignoring this fantastic thread!

Super pics all around (keep 'em comin!), but this one really has me perplexed...

I don't know where KFM took this from.
KSCN0013-5.jpg

I'm trying to figure out where this photo could have been taken from to get a shot that high up at that angle. Any guesses??

I wish I knew! I can't figure it out either. KFM is out of town right now, but when she gets back I'll show it to her and see if she remembers where she took it from. :confused3

ETA: I thought I had it figured out. My first thought was maybe the Astro Orbiters, but the angle is all wrong. Then it occurred to me....get out an old guidemap! Duh. It looks like the logical vantage point is the upper ramp for the Tomorrowland Speedway. Notice the lower right of the pic...it looks like the old Victory Circle. The ramp would be at about that angle.

ETA: Also just noticed the traffic lights just left of Victory Circle. The upper outside lane on the ramp would make perfect sense. Also the vantage point of the TTA entering SM and the Sky Way crossing in front of SM supports this theory. (I also failed to mention that this pic is slightly cropped making SM appear a little closer than the original photo.) Nonetheless all the angles line up w/the Speedway theory. Any thoughts?

That had to be taken from the skyride. After it passed Space Mountain it came back down almost to ground level, then made a 90 degree turn and headed into Fantasyland, climbing back up to bird level. Or coming the other way just before SM it made a 90 degree turn and headed into Tomorrowland.

I miss that ride!!!! :sad2:

Wish I could find pictures from our trips in the late 70's early 80's. I have some from Epcot taken in Dec 1982.

Judging from the MK guidemap, the 90 degree turn was made slightly to the right of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea entance and then it was pretty much a straight shot to the Tomorrowland Sky Way just on the other side of SM. So the angles aren't right from the Sky Way. Also, the old cameras back then didn't have zoom or any other cool features for that matter and even relatively close shots looked far away. This would explain why the Speedway cars look so small down below. IMHO

KFK

P.S. Keep looking for those pics. We'd all love to see them!

Don't trust the guidemap. They were not to scale and they probably just put the turn where it would fit. Check out where the turquoise and red skyride cars are in front of SM. If you look above them you will see that the guide rail at that tower is bent toward the left of the picture. Follow the line down to the left and you'll see right at the edge of the picture there is a guide that points back up to the two skyride cars. That is the beginning of the "station" where the sky ride made it's turn. There is still the platform for the turn in the middle of the Tomorrowland Speedway (or whatever thry're calling it now).

This was one of my favorite rides and I made sure to ride AT LEAST once every trip. I'm older than you KFK, my first trip in 1976 I was 15, not a kid anymore. So I'm convinced that KFM took this picture from the skyride.

I realize that the guidemaps aren't absolute, however, this one looks fairly close to how I remember, but I've been wrong before.....

As I've already said......I will ask KFM when she gets back into town. Only she knows for sure. As long as she can remember!

BTW...you're not THAT much older than me. ;) By the time I was 15 I'd already been going to WDW 10 years straight. My first trip was 1973 and we rode EVERY year too. :thumbsup2

BTW I'm really good at "Where's Waldo" too :rotfl:

:lmao: I am too.

For those of you who will get this:

I found this recipe on the Camping Recipe thread and almost died laughing. Not because the recipe is funny...but a lot of you will know why it's funny to me!

Cowboy Sausage and Campfire Beans :

1 lb Italian sausage
1 ( 14 oz. ) can crushed tomatoes
1 onion, finely chopped
1 T. brown sugar
1 tsp. mustard
salt and pepper to taste
1 ( 15 oz. ) can baked beans
1 ( 15 oz. ) can kidney beans
6 slices bacon

Dump everything into your slow-cooker, cook on low for 6-8 hours. Can be served with rice. Must be ate outside with a cowboy( if you have one) or by a campfire( not to close) them beans are mighty powerful. :rotfl2:

Wait until TCD see this!:rotfl:

TCD and DaveinTN! :lmao:

Being the very curious, "can't let it go 'til I know" type that I am.....I searched Skyway on Youtube and found several SW vidoes this one was the best in my view in that it shows the guidemap to be pretty close to accurate. (Surprising, I know. The maps can often be wayyyy off.) This one does seem to be pretty true to form.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbvFPSS4l54

It didn't look like you could get KFM's angle from there to me. The Skyway's turns were made near 20,000 Leagues and then again just as it was getting to Tomorrowland (that's where the station was)...just before getting to the Speedway and then straight staying on the wrong side of the Speedway to be able to have the VC in the pic. :confused3

Like I said, I've been wrong plenty of times before. This one's gonna drive me batty until I see KFM. They're at the beach and we're going down for the day one day this week. I believe I'll take the pic w/me and see if I can jog her memory. :thumbsup2

That modular concept looked good on paper but it never realized it's original design. When a room needed to be refurbished, it was supposed to be slid out and replaced with a new room. Didn't happen, they wouldn't slide out.

Not all of Walt's ideas worked out. Same with the Utilidors at MK. It was never repeated, way too expensive.

Fairly certain this was just a rumor. In the picture you can see they had to use a big crane to lift the units into place. Where would they put this crane now? Also what kind of refurb would require removing the entire unit?

I knew when I read that post someone was going to bring this up. Of course it had to be a bus driver. :goodvibes
