On CC can my husband and I "share" scuba gear? In other words, can we rent a set and then each go at different times.

Anne

I've read that a lot of families rent 2 sets of gear and dad and son go out and then share with mom and daughter.

Are you talking about snorkeling gear? I don't think you can rent SCUBA gear for personal use on Castaway Cay, and even so, SCUBA diving alone is not really a smart idea. Assuming you're asking about snorkeling, then yes, you could probably rent one set and share it, but it's likely that a mask that fits you will not fit your husband, and vice-versa. Ditto for the fins, probably.

I'd suggest each picking up a cheap set and bringing it with you. You can get basic gear at places like Sports Chalet or Sports Authority for about what a rental would cost you. You're then covered for all future snorkeling endeavors.

OMG! I am really tired and stressed! I did indeed mean SNORKEL gear. Wow. Thanks for the tip.

I disagree that a mask that fits your husband possibly won't fit you. According to the masks that I bought, it went by weight so assuming that you and hubby are both over 110+lbs :rotfl:the mask should fit you both.

I also bought cheap snorkle gear this past summer for the kids to try it out in our pool before this trip and the kids hated them. The masks leaked and the air-tube wasn't a "dry-snorkle". So I bought some good kinds over the internet and everyone was pleased.

If you don't know what a dry snorkel is do a search on them. I learned all about them from someone in one of these threads.

Well, my brother and I both weigh within 10 pounds of each other and we cannot use the same mask....

The thing about buying your own stuff is that you can actually test the mask to see how it fits before you buy it (press it to your face, breathe in, let go - if it stays on your face, then it will seal properly in the water). You can get cheap stuff that fits you for around $30, which is about what it costs to rent stuff on Castaway Cay.

For some good clearance stuff you might want to keep an eye on diversdirect.com

A word of advice. I am latex allergic. Most snorkel gear is made of latex. I was able to buy a cheap non latex mask and snorkel (decent quality) from target. We have taken the sets, I bought my boyfriend a set too, on our cruise prior and we were very glad. I wasn't so sure they sanitized the snorkel gear that well. Just a thought.....
