Iger visits potterland rumour

I don't doubt that he visited WWOHP... or even rode HM. But the whole "It's not Potter" story strikes me as bogus.

i dont know of his personality at all. but maybe HM had been over sold to him and he was expecting more? maybe "Its not Potter" wasnt exactly what he said - but something with similar meaning.

I could see it if it were Eisner but Iger is more low key ... But if he finally feels he's looking like a fool then who knows??:confused3

Gotta be good for all of us guests ... and what a HIUGE ego boost to the TM's at Universal.

Wow, I knew you folks didn't like Disney, but you're honestly believing a post by "Master Gracey," based upon "hearsay," from a "CM" who happened to "overhear..."

I won't go on. It's already embarrassing enough for anyone who believes that post.

Thankfully, HM is not HP. Universal did such a pathetically mediocre job with that property, increased their attendance by 30% and it's still less than 50% what DAK sees per annum.

Nice try, USO. Now try again. You folks too. I'm sure Iger is balled up in a corner somewhere, crying his eyes out, wondering how he can get Disney to have the top five theme parks in the world. Oh, wait. That's right. He's already done that.

Disney FTW. :)

Duh ... Rumors board. :confused3 This is a rumor. :thumbsup2 But, yes I'll admit it, I'm now embarrassed.:guilty: As far as hating disney, hate is kind of an interesting word but I'll tell you what, I'd rather be accused of hating THIS disney than being a pathetic apologist for a multi national conglomerate that only concerns itself with wall st.:scared1: You know the kind of apologist that can't even respect the fact that Universal, led by HP, absolutely kicked WDW's butt this past year.:scared1: But it's OK because that "magic" and "pixie dust" at Disney is oh so relevant in the world today.

Actually, some of us like Disney too much to be willing to excuse and continually apologize for its (now many) shortcomings. We can't stand to see an institution which has meant so much to so many people ran into the ground as it has been.

way too much speculation and heresay....but slightly funny. I doubt that anyone was thinking that HM upgrades would be an answer to Potter. Everyone expects Disney to answer the WWoHP in some way, but they won't. Disney does not and have never tried to one up their competition, they aren't looking for a one shot wonder. Disney's business model has always been sustained growth and returning visitors, not slapping up a roller coaster just to do it. There are parks that try to one up each other with the fastest, longest, highest ride....and there is Disney.

Agree and disagree.

Disney has never tried to one up their competition because they were always the Alpha dog. They LED by example and let the other poor schmo's, who didn't have Walt's ideology to guide them, just eat their dust. If they'd stuck to that path (quality, innovation and guest experience) we'd not be having this discussion. But when Disney decided to rest on its laurels (Eisner and especially Iger) and just milk the brand, things started to change. Then low and behold Universal did something that virtually all of us thought totally out of the question. They not only hit a Grand Slam but scored a game winning three and a 102 yard kick off return touchdown with no time left to absolutely shock the mouse.

Disney is still the king, their size pretty much guarantees that but profitability and popular buzz? Well, that's changed and it's now Universal Florida's to give back or Disney can try to take it back. What will it be? I think Disney continues their conservative approach hoping that Universal will falter in their upkeep of Potter and the rest of their parks. A pretty big gamble I think.

When did I ever said I believed it. I just said we can hope it's true.

I didnt intend it to be taken as fact  Although this does seem more likely than many of the bus/boat driver or other CM facts we see posted here in the rumours board :)

also I think your numbers about attendances are wrong ;) but nevermind.

I don't think it's all impossible. I have a friend, who's relative runs a direct competitor of Disney. The relative receives special priveleges at Disney Parks. Things I have never heard of anyone else getting. So while competitors they are allowing each other to experience the best of each others products.

But I don't think Iger cares that much about the parks, That Staggs job.

When POTC premiers in DL, Iger will go to DL.

When the Dream was Christened in Cape Canaveral Iger was there.

Was anything going on in WDW that Iger had to appear for that brought him to FL?

Same thing back, yes and no. Is Disney what it once was? No, but change is inevitable especially in the business/amusement park. A lot of people have this glowing in their eyes that Walt was hands down the most generous customer oriented and fair guy in the world, but it is not exactly true. Walt had a vision of what WDW could be and worked hard for it....but a lot of people were very upset about how he orchestrated the land purchases, the business practices, etc. He was very business savvy and not everything would be fantasy and pixie dust. We don't know what WDW would be like with Walt around, it is all speculation.

Universal hit a home run, it is too early to tell if it will be a grandslam, it needs time to tell that. But, either way as you stated, Disney is King and will remain that way mostly because they have the infrastructure in Orlando that no one else has. I am still reserved in seeing what Universal does next, they need to continue on the WWoHP success, but I am a bit afraid that there will be some reluctance to invest heavily in it. With Blackstone looking to leave the park, it could further distract from continued impovements. My feeling is that Disney is betting the same thing, this is a home run, but in the long run it will be a blip on the radar.

I don't think it holds anything more than the normal CM/Bus driver rumor....but more likely it is a Universal CM/Boat Captain rumor...LOL

I just don't see Iger or anyone else caring about what Universal has done and trying to compete with it.

Could you elaborate on your anomosity towards Bob?

You didn't ask me, but I can. He's a slug. He's a one trick pony. He's a business man who knows business by the numbers. He's not imaginative nor is he a risk taker or a dreamer. He's strictly a pencil pusher and not the kind of guy who should be running a specialized business like Disney. :lovestruc
