...do you think that's REALLY how it was back then? ;)

Those people are insane! :teeth:

But it's sure compelling to watch, isn't it?

I'm hooked on this series. But then again, I love watching period/costume shows. As far as historical accuracy, I'm sure there were some truth to it.

Me too - the costuming and scenery is awesome!!! Of course, even if it's not historically accurate, it sure is like a train wreck - you just gotta watch, even though your mouth is hanging open in shock. :earboy2:

And there are plenty that would keep my jaw open! Heck, 1st episode totally suprised me. I know it's HBO and all that, but I sure wasn't expected full frontal nudity in the first 15 minutes of the show! :rotfl:

I'm absolutely in love with this series....can't get enough of it! :goodvibes I keep wondering when the truth on Niobe's baby is going to come out!!!! :earseek: :p

The production value is unquestionably superb. I'm also a big fan of period works and Rome has had me captivated. It really was a different world back then. From what I've studied about ancient societies and cultures, the moral code is fairly accurate. And there's always intrigue in power circles. The main points of inaccuracy have mostly dealt with particulars of the actual historical figures, but this is drama. Overall, it has been an excellent show. I'm looking forward to Cleopatra's arrival on the scene.

Did anyone else go :earseek: at Atia's "gift" to Servilia? Dang!

Read this little tidbit from the HBO website:

Rome Fact

The punishment for parricide, the killing of your father, was to be tied up in a sack with a live monkey, snake, cockerell and wild dog and thrown into the River Tiber.

I watch it, and (yes I seen the gift) :teeth: . What gets me is how "dull" the color was, nothing seems as bright

I'm still mourning the end of Six Feet Under!

I just never got around to watching Rome, I tried, but someone called me during the series opener and I just never got back to it.

Say it ain't so! I loved that show. Over here, we are so far behind, but they really like the HBO shows as we get Sopranos, Oz, Deadwood, the Wire, Six Feet Under, Carnivale and Sex and the City.

Can someone give me a brief description of what this show is about?.....of course, without giving away any story spoilers.

If you like Rome, rent I, Claudius. IMHO absolutely the best thing that has ever been on TV! ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

I don't usually watch it because it's on too late. However, I was on a trip and arrived late at night and was starving. I called Room Service and then turned the tv on to pass the time till the food arrived and started watching Rome not knowing what I was getting into. :rotfl: Just as Room Service knocked on the door, a very graphic sex scene appeared. Now, I'm no prude but I was certainly surprised and I sure turned the tv off before letting the waiter into the room! :rotfl:

It was a good show, though.

In a nutshell, there are 2 camps who are against each other. Caeser's camp and Pompey's camp.

There's a guy from Caeser's camp whose wife had a baby with her brother-in-law while her hubby was off at war. Hubby thinks it's his daughter's kid. Things WILL explode when he finds out the truth.

There's a woman named Atia who is a controlling witch with 2 kids. She's already had her daughter's hubby killed and sent her teenage son to a brothel with a guy from Caeser's army - so he could "finally be penetrated". :earseek:

Sopranos, Deadwood - I thought they were edgy - they've got nothing on Rome. :earseek:

I don't have HBO so I can't wait for this to come out on DVD. The guys at work are raving about this show and I'm all for programs that show male full-frontal nudity! :teeth:

The "gift" was interesting to say the least. :rotfl:

I think if I was gonna kill my father, I'd just knock myself off at the same time - had to be better than the "punishment". :earseek:

I wanted to watch it at first because it had James Purefoy in it. I didn't expect the full frontals, and then JP had a full frontal too! :earseek: Whoa, Nellie!

But the storyline really sucked me in more than the full-frontals or the graphic sex scenes. I've always been intrigued with the whole Roman Empire and Caesar's saga. The power struggles, the brutality of the times. I didn't even know there were nobles and commoners in those times. It made me read up more about the real history.

Did anyone see the previews for next week's episode? Cleopatra shows up! I just have to say... I wasn't expecting Cleo to look like a young boy!

Especially when sometimes, the full-frontal guy is being subservient to a woman. ;)

I missed the previews. Can't wait for the episode. I wonder who Cleo is going to hook up with? On "Rome", you know it truly could be anyone or everyone. ;)

We KNOW it'll be Julius Caesar and Marc Antony. (But who knows how many others?) Also, Atia's son, Octavian, will become Augustus Caesar. He'll go from being the son of an evil, domineering woman to the husband of one. :rotfl:

from the previews, it looked like Cleo was angling for Verinus! Poor Atia... she tries so hard to be conniving and meddlesome, and look what it's got her. A slap from Marc Antony, a curse from Servilia, and pretty soon Cleo's gonna barge in on her domain too!

BTW... what's up with Servilia and Octavia anyway?
