If you're a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast I have a question for you

I use the jigsaw collection app, 3rd row down, 2nd column. It's free. I finished all the puzzles with the original download so I just downloaded more free ones, some you have to pay so I skip those. But it only goes up to 440 pieces.View attachment 254069

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I've had my eye on that for a while. I've measured the living room in my basement and if I remove everything, it would fit. The price is the only thing holding me back right now.

I've done a few round puzzles and didn't find them any more difficult than rectangle ones. I think the difficulty comes more from the image than the shape.

That makes sense. Even with a round one you can tell what pieces are edges.

I haven't done a round puzzle but I have done a few shaped ones. The ones I rememer having off the bat is a puzzle shaped like the Statue of Liberty and a whale.

The Statue of Liberty one was probably a little bit harder than the whale one but they weren't extremely difficult though.

Statue of Liberty sounds cool.

Anyone else get the email from Disney Store yesterday with puzzles and toys for Christmas? They had quite a selection of puzzles, none of which I'll be buying, but this one looks like "fun"!

Has anyone ever tackled a round puzzle? Pretty sure that's one I wouldn't finish!

I have done a round puzzle. We have a round 500-piece nutcracker-themed one that my daughter insists is tradition to complete once every Christmas season. I think we have done it at least 10+ times so far. It isn't really any different than a rectangular puzzle. The edge pieces are slightly curved on one side instead of flat, but everything else is pretty much the same.

I have also done a few of the foam-backed 3-D puzzles. The best one was one that my mom gave me about 25 years ago of Cinderella's castle. I have seen a new version of it available on Amazon, but it is only 200 pieces, whereas the one that I did years ago has 530 pieces.

We've done a couple of those 3D ball puzzles - they're not that much fun as a puzzle person, because they're generally they're just (at least the ones we've done) numbered pieces that you assemble in order. Aside from the difficulty of construction, they're not a challenge.

I've got a couple of 3d puzzles from the brand 'Puzz3d'. I know I have the Notre Dame Cathedral (was a bit hard IMO) and the London Tower Bridge. I'm so jealous you have a Cinderella's castle and the one with more pieces.

Ok so I just Googled bits and Pieces and wow that's soo cool all the different typs of puzzles organizers they have.

I must admit IDK if people call it cheating but I put my end pieces in a ziplock bag (though I see Bits and Pieces has trays) for the next time I put the puzzle together. I just want to get down to making the puzzle instead of having to sort each time. I haven't framed any of my puzzles yet because I like the idea of putting it together again and again but when I was like 10/11 I felt the need to take photos with a disposable camera of my finished work the first time I put a puzzle together. I can only image what the 1hr photo attendant was thinking :P.

Aha! I've gotten a bunch of puzzles off ebay (I'm addicted to puzzles by Heronim and he's retired), and they came with the edge pieces in bags. Inspired me to sort by areas of puzzles as well, and I usually have a bunch of bags going. I don't do that for the next person though...

The ones that I own are all done by Wrebbit Puzzles. There are a few listings of the Cinderella's Castle one on Ebay for a semi-reasonable amount of money (about $27).

My dad does puzzles and occasionally has a few pieces like this. There have been a few times where he did in fact go back through and find the incorrect pieces, but usually he calls it good. I personally wouldn't waste the time or frustration trying to find the correct pieces. I'd call it good, deconstruct it and box it for later.

A couple of the comments on Amazon mentioned that they had ordered it directly from Amazon in Germany and that even with shipping, it still came in considerably less. (About $350, if I remember correctly.) Still not super cheap, but less expensive than purchasing in the U.S.

I looked into it, and it ended up $375. Not a huge savings. Plus I've never done an international order, so I'm not sure if there's some fee I'm unaware of.

I was obsessed with 3-D puzzles when I was a kid. One year for christmas I got the New York City one which was over 3000 pieces. My mom wouldn't let me do it on the table because we needed it for Christmas dinner, so I took over the family room. I had side sections of buildings layered all over the piano and couch. I had the finished version displayed on my dresser for a few years after.

My favorite was Notre Dame. I even had a computer program version of the puzzle that I would do over and over again. I still have the disc despite the fact that I no longer have a computer with an old enough version of Windows to run it.

That's a nice Christmas tradition.

That makes sense -- the assembly part.

Interesting about the edge pieces being in a bag. I suppose if you didn't like that (I do!) you could always just dump them out with the others.

For how many times I was ready to chuck the puzzle I'm just pleased that I got it -- almost -- done.

The New York City one sounds impressive. I had one of Times Square (not 3D) that I left out for my son to do when he was home, and I think since he was then living in NYC (and it probably didn't have so many pieces) he completed it. That's what prompted me to buy the Cinderella one, but he was smart enough not to start it.

I have two ball puzzles. The pieces are hard plastic so they snap into place and hold together while you are working on it. It also has numbers on the inside of the puzzle if you need to cheat. The challenge is the last couple of pieces, or when your hand slips and your puzzle rolls away

My other one is Mickey and I love it. It wasn't that hard and it's adorable put together. The puzzle was his head, it had two ears and a nose you attached to the puzzle, and the base was his body.

The 'Easter bunny' gave my kids a ball snap together puzzle 2 years ago. The girls for soccer balls and my son got a baseball.

I have done oddly shaped ones too. I used to have tons and tons and tons of puzzles and my mother threw them away with in the past 10 years (I am 45). But didn't worry I have a new collection! I get my kids at least one a year.

Like I posted previously I used to buy a lot thru bits and pieces, well my mom did since I had no means to buy them. And I also would buy the ones from Hallmark but then I got cheap and I would buy the ones from target/Walmart.

But now I do the ones on the app. I used another app about 1-2 yrs ago but I did them all so I had to find something new.

My kids aren't into puzzles as I was but I didn't have a cell phone so I know times have changed. They still help and my son is notorious for helping at the beginning and then he comes back right at the end and hides a piece so he could be the last one!

15 years ago I did a puzzle I wanted to frame, and ended up with 27 missing pieces. My 3 year old insisted she hadn't touched it. The company sent me another, and I started over. Years later, I found in a box of toddler clothes in my storage room an old tea tin of my grandmother's that my daughter used to play with. Inside were 27 puzzle pieces...

Rotten little thief!

I can imagine how delighted I would be to have the puzzle roll off.

I LOVE the Mickey puzzle.

I'm becoming intrigued by the 3D puzzles . . .

I have no doubt how expensive the Hallmark ones became. I think there was just a comic in the newspaper about a little kid who hid the last piece and snuck it in. Kids, gotta love 'em!

I didn't have much luck palming it off on the cold Canadian. If YOU want it PM me your address and I'll happily mail it to you - no charge. I myself am curious to see it completed, but as punishment for it not fitting I boxed it up so it's sitting in the basement thinking about what it did wrong!

Oops! I posted too soon...

Hey! I thought I was picking it up on the side of the highway the next time I drove north?

Plan C: I will be at Disneyland on Aug 21. I will leave the puzzle under the bush nearest to the trash can that is nearest to the entrance to Small World. Whomever spots it first can grab it.

Just kidding.

I'm going to dump all the pieces out and try it one more time. :magnify:

Nope, just kidding about that, too. :crazy2:

Above H2O, I have found just the solution for you! Check out what this guy does with his puzzles...

Puzzle Montage Art by Tim Klein

It really doesn't matter if you can make those pieces fit...only that you can make some other pieces fit.

Now that is very cool! Let me see if any of the wooden Mr. Potato Head puzzle pieces I have are interchangeable!
