what do you do to organize it?

to make use of the space?

does eachchild have their own theme?

I am looking to redo the girls room and some of the websites I've looked at go to pretty elaborate themes...I just want something simple and have the ability to make use of the space and stay organized....!

Dd7 and dd8 have been sharing a room now for about a year. They have bunkbeds, and share clothes (they both wear the same size). They are best friends, so this works for us. Besides stuffed animals and their american girl dolls, everything is shared.

my girls have two twin white beds and everything is green and pink in their rooms including their bedspreads and their matching Pottery Barn chairs...they have separate closets...but one big dresser...the left half is older DD's and the right half is younger DD... middle drawer for socks is shared

we have bunk beds but they are down at the moment. I was thinking of getting two twin frames and doing an l shape in the corner to conserve space a little.

I have 2 boys age 7 and 10 who share a room. I've asked if they want their own room and they always say no. They are best buddies.

We have bunk beds for them to allow for more floor space. They each have their own chest of drawers, plus the bottom bunk has 2 drawers under it.

I also have 2 chairs and ottomans shaped like basketballs. They boys love them.

As for theme, we change it every couple of years. It was dinosaurs for the longest time. Then it was Star Wars. Now it is just a plaid print bedspread. It's not really a theme at all. They are asking for a pirate theme now.

I have twin 8-year old boys that share a room. They have matching beds on each side of the room with a TV in between the beds. Their room is not huge so their drawer space is under their beds, they each have 4 drawers and a cubby. The closet has an organizer in it, so each boy has a 1/2 side of the closet & shelves. They share a hamper. The room is painted 1 color, but each wall that their bed is on belongs to that boy. One side has helicopter vinyl cling things (cuz he likes military stuff) and a framed Tony Hawk poster....the other side, for the other boy (who is into music) has a framed Green Day poster, and will be soon getting a guitar vinyl cling thingie. :thumbsup2

My two boys are 9 and 6 and currently share a room. They both have their own bed and there own bureaus and the rest of the space is both of theirs. In a couple of years another bedroom will be empty and they will have the option of their own rooms if they want them and if we still live in this house.

Wow, I thought we were the only family still with kids that share a room! Our boys(4 & 11) share a very small space so we squeezed bunk beds in there. Older boy got the top bunk he always dreamed of. I found this nifty "Bunk Buddy" side table so he can place a small alarm clock or whatever else on. Younger brother gets the lower bunk fit in an "L" so he can fit his side table under there. We have one chest of drawers, shared but boys get separate drawers. There are more stackable plastic drawers in the shared closet one side for each boy. The key with sharing a very small space is that it must be picked up...often!! We managed to squeeze a small reading corner with a bean bag chair for DS-11. We keep almost all of the toys and games in the gameroom which is just outside their room.

When our girls used to share, they did not get along too well and we tried to create their own space by attaching a netted canopy above each twin bed. We didn't have a theme but they picked out a pretty sparkly comforter and each got their own color. One picked pastel purple and one picked peach. It was kind of a weird combo, but they were happy and it didn't look too bad. When we moved they each got their own room. Oh happy days!!

my 10 and 11 year old girls share a room and dont want to be seperated at least at this point, they have always shared so thats fine.

We have bunkbeds and the oldest gets the top one. We have almost all toys in the basement so the only thing they can mess with is their stuffed animals and their clothes.

They share a large dresser and a big closet. It can be tricky but they manage ok.

Haven't had to deal with that so far but that will be changing soon...hopefully quite soon.

I'm thinking Les Nessman-style tape on the floor to separate the sides! :)

My boys shared a room for years, but when the oldest hit puberty, he wanted privacy, so he moved into one of our other bedrooms. Our youngest still sleeps in the top bunk of the bunk beds that they used to share.

When they shared a room, each had their own chest of drawers, they shared a desk, and the entire room had a common theme...

My boys share a room. They have bunk beds and each have a dresser for their clothes. They share the closet and inside I have their bookcase and a bin for large toys that they share. I also have a thing with 8 cubbies for canvas bins for their stuff, they each get 4. I use 2 over the door shoe organizers that I hung over the top footboard part of the bunk, they use it for their action figures. They each have a corkboard hanging next to their bed for personal stuff but there is no real theme in their room except for the camo bedding.

there was a instering article in a design mag. on this Let me see if I can find it..
Its
Do it yourself Fall 2007. There website is Diyideas.com

the article talks about how to make a small room work for two boys (10,12). they did the room with colors. red for one, blue for the other. Its a neat article.

My kids have always shared rooms. The 2 oldest and the 2 youngest b/c they get up at different times. I'm old school...they have a bed and covers and pillows and heat. When they pay the bills they can pick the paint, the bedspread, the brand name tv etc...:rotfl:you get the picture. And yes, they're happy, well mannered, intelligent kids!

My 3 boys share a room. We have 2 sets of bunk beds in an L shape. They store toys in treasure chests in the crawl space. DS13 gets the closet for clothes, and DS8 and 9 each have a dresser. We have a tall bookcase and 2 shorter book cases that hold the TV.
They picked a pirate theme because the beds are black so I painted the room 2 shades of blue. A vintage blue color on the bottom 3/4 of the wall and the top 1/4 and the ceiling are a lighter almost deep sky blue, kind of hard to decide. We have a Pirates of the Caribbean border that I'm going to put up between the 2 colors.

They each get a shelf on the bookcases and the 4th shelf on the tall bookcase is shared for things like pokemon binders and common books. I store out of season clothes under their beds.

The biggest key for us was using all the vertical space we have so we didn't use the valuable floor space. And having multifunctional furniture. Our whole house is small so we have to really watch what we purchase. We mostly shop at Ikea now.

DS13 is going into high school next year so we are in the process of building an office down stairs and 10x10 space above it that will be off the little boys room. For now it will be DS13's room but when we sell it will be marketed as a master bedroom with a walk in closet.
