My husband and I have been asking each other, if we won the lottery (currently $54M), would we buy DVC again, or would we just go to WDW as often and just pay cash?

I say - buy DVC (I like being in the club) ! DH says - pay cash for the DVC rooms.

What would you all do, and why?

If I won $54 Million, I'd buy a lovely upscale home near to WDW AND buy the a good sized DVC contract, so that out of town friends that want to visit (of course you'd know they really want to go to Disney) could enjoy themselves and we could ALL enjoy privacy.

go put this poll on the resort board - more there would vote to just rent the rooms.

I'll have to remember this next time a point rental debate breaks out and someone says "who in their right mind would pay cash for those rooms when you can just rent the points?!?!" :teeth:

Well, I said buy DVC, because I would probably buy the maximum limit of points and spend the coldest months of the year down there! I wouldn't bother to buy a home, because I do NOT want to live in Florida!

I certainly didn't buy DVC because I am poor, but I love having a piece of something I know I will get to use over, and over. Nice thing about DVC over home ownership....no mowing the lawn. :) I suppose I could hire someone to do that, but it's just something else that has to be done. I know that when I move into DVC for my stay it will be in the same impecable condition as it was last year.

I think you both have too much time on your hands...you need a hobby. ;)

Easy - Buy. With 160 points, it makes it tough to stay in a 1-bedroom villa for a week although it can be done by playing close atttention to the resort, the time of year, borrowing/banking, etc. Purchasing more points would remove this problem.

I'd buy a big enough add on that we could spend at least 2 weeks in a grand villa during the busiest weeks of the year! That way we'd be assured a great vacation for ourselves and we could bring people with us to enjoy it as well. Now, if only I would win (I guess I have to actually buy a ticket first :D ).

and join the 1000+ points club:)

:sunny:

I'd definetly buy! I'd buy enough points to spend several weeks or maybe a month or two in WDW! :)

I voted to "buy DVC".

I mean buy the whole DVC operation! All the resorts, that is. Then I'd sell points to the good folks here at a substantial discount, and negotiate great park pass rates and WDW resort rates.

Oh, you mean would I buy more points?

Uh, sure! Right up to the max. :)

But I'd hire someone to call day by day for all of my reservations! :)

I would buy the maximum amount of points.

NO WAY would I buy DVC! If we are talking major cash, I can afford the best rooms at each resort. I'd make my way around the World staying at all those really great suites. Then once I'd decided on a favorite, I'd make that my regular haunt.

I'm trying to do that now, but on a much, much smaller scale. :)

Why, I'd build another DVC resort, on the monorail between Epcot and the MK - and it would be exclusively for DIS DVCers. They'd be really big rooms, with very short hallways (hmmm, could we call it the RHV? ;) )

Seriously, if I had that kind of cash, I buy the max DVC points and use DVC Resorts as a home base with occaisional side-trips to the other resorts.

I've always dreamed of winning and buying more points

I voted Buy.

I would buy an 8,325 point OKW add-on or whatever number of resales necessary to get me close to that and I would be the first member of the 10,000 point club. This would give us 5 winter months in a GV at OKW.

Being a millionaire I wouldn't worry about the $3,000 monthly dues expense. Of course my personal secretary/assistant would manage my membership for us.

I'm feeling lucky...anyone interested in a personal assistant position can PM their resume to me. Starting pay is one 50 point DVC add-on per month to the DVC resort of your choice. Benefits include paid dues on the points you own and retirement at the DVC resort of your choice. Previous experience in managing DVC membership a plus. Equal employment opportunity employer. All applications will be kept confidential.
