If you were to make a major change in your appearance

like a big haircut or a change in color, would you tell your boyfriend/ husband/ significant other/ partner?

I have several different times and I have never told them. I just always wait to see if he notices which he usually doesn't and I have done some really huge changes like cutting all of my hair off and going from grey hair to completely blond.

No. If I were going to spend serious money for cosmetic surgery, I would mention it. Anything less, I would not discuss with him.

I might say, "Hey, how do you think I'd look as a blonde/brunette/redhead?" (BTW, I've tried them all.) But I usually make major changes on a whim. When DS7 was a baby, I went to the salon with long, brown hair and came back with it short and blonde.

Thanks. I may try that.

I'm currently single, but thinking back to all the guys I've dated - I would probably ask their opinions and end up being talked out of it. Maybe it's just the ones I've dated, but I feel like most men don't deal with physical change too well. If you want to make the change then make yourself happy and just do it, and they'll just learn to adjust. I made a fairly drastic change in my hair this year and it went very well. I hope you decide to make whatever change you're looking to make. Remember: hair grows back and can always be redyed.

Thanks. I'm generally not very adventurous with my hair, though I was more so when I younger. I also know that some guys don't like short hair.

At this point, I am what I am.

I might mention it, but I wouldn't be looking for approval.

I have been blonde for a long time. Then, earlier today, I went to the salon and I'm now a dark chestnut. I love it! DH is not real thrilled b/c he thinks it is red and he doesn't like red hair. I told him that I was changing it, asked his opinion ("Whatever, just not red.") and went to the salon. I also know that he doesn't like it short. However, I have had it short and I liked it. I try to keep him happy, but I do it how I want it too.

My hubby hates short hair on women. However, the easiest hairstyle I ever had was very short and I have already told him that if we ever have kids, I will most likely go back to that hairstyle. It may not be his favorite but he loves me no matter what, and that's how it should be. :goodvibes

Nope, but I would tell him if my daughter wanted to make a big change.

Cool! Did anything prompt you to make the change, or was it entirely spur of the moment?

nah, i don't tell! i once shaved my head to just a tad longer than peach fuzz and bf (now hubby) was shocked! i LOVED that cut.

i've also done platinum, teal, purple-ish red, orange, red and BRIGHT PURPLE! it's always a whim.

i do keep my hair super short and hubby doesn't complain. lol he has mentioned a few times, wow, you're hair is shorter than mine. :rotfl:

i like to keep him on his toes.

Yup. I need to get my hair cut shorter by the time the baby comes. DH doesn't like short hair, so I will probably do a little past the shoulders. It is currently at my waist.

I dye my hair various shades of red - from strawberry blonde to RED to a reddish brown as the seasons change. My SO likes red hair, so he's fine with it. I'm a natural blonde, but the reds look better with my pale skin. I get compliments when it goes back to its natural blonde, but neither of us like it as much.

I also go shorter in winter. I have long, stick straight, fine hair. The static from dry air means that my hair will stick up all the time or it has to be pulled back all the time. NOT fun.

I never have time - I don't know what I'm going to do until my butt's in the chair. I'm extremely impulsive with my hair.

When my fiance and I met, I had long-ish hair (just past my shoulders). The following summer, I was putting it up all the time because of the heat and I can't stand my hair on my neck when it's hot. Went for my hair appointment...my stylist went to mix up my color...I sat there for a minute, staring at myself in the mirror, and when she came back, I said, "Hack it off. I can't take it anymore."

Color is even better. If my stylist wants to try something new, I let her. It's just hair; if it's bad, it will grow out.
