will you change your mind if the dues end up going up significantly from what they were before selling ceased?

We had made the decision to buy right when selling stopped and have been anxiously awaiting selling to resume but with the new info we have gotten since the firings we are worried that the dues will end up pricing us out!

Anyone that considers buying a timeshare close to the ocean should seriously consider the additional costs associated in the upkeep of those properties due to salt erosion on every metal piece of equipment including but not limited to air conditioners, pumps, and even the rebar in the building especially on the terraces. Then in Hawaii you have to be worried about tsunami's...and the high cost of insurance to protect yourself against them.

Look at all the Disney properties currently on the ocean ie: HHI and Vero all have high MF's and I can guarantee you that Auliani will be the same.

Lastly, due to the high cost of air fare, I.m sure that owners of Auliani will not be visiting the resort every year, so why incur the potential high costs of that property when you can buy SSR resale at $50-$60 and pay low MF's but still stay at Auliani and save 10's of thousands over the life of your contract.

We had not planned on buying at Aulani -- but briefly toyed with the idea. Given what we now know -- I doubt we'll give it a second look. It would really bug me to know of a subsidized group but not be part of that group. Thankfully, there yet remains a huge market of unsuspecting, unknowing, potential buyers.

FWIW, round-trip air SAN/HNL is pretty close to that of SAN/MCO. We do visit the HI islands at least every-other-year and sometimes multiple times within a year if we find an airfare sale. I'm not expecting any greater issues booking Aulani inside the 7-mos window than booking my other point-based timeshare options or exchanges on Maui, Kauai and Hawaii (Big Island).

Looking forward to our first Aulani visit ... now less than 30 days away.

We live in SoCal, so for us flying to HI is no different than flying to Orlando and we will likely vacation there more often that WDW since we are AP holders at DL and get our Mickey fix often:wizard:

We were and still are in the wait and see mode. We'll wait to see what really transpires and not all this speculation and rumors.

Please don't assume things - the airfare to Hawaii is no different in price for me than going to Orlando....it wasn't even a factor when we decided to purchase at Aulani - and yes, we are planning on going every year. SSR holds less than zero appeal to us, and if somewhere down the line DVC is restricted to booking only at our home resorts, we have Hawaii and AKV so we are covered at both ends. I have no desire now or ever to stay at SSR regardless of the cost, and am still more than happy that we purchased Aulani.

I think the flight to HNL is easier than MCO ... as it is often direct/non-stop. Total travel time is shorter and we don't have to worry about changing planes in DFW or ORD! Yeah!
