honestly-has anyone ever seen a reward make a difference in a missing person's case? the only case i recall in recent years paying out is the one with the courtroom shooter (and the woman who collected was being held captive-so it's not like it was the incentive in her turning him in).

went to highschool with a girl (this was in the late 70's) who can from a wealthy (but not "mega rich") family. one day she and another friend were walking past the "old library" (had been turned into the town historical preservation society when we were kids) and they had a display of newspapers in the front window "local crime scandals of the 60's". they glanced over and the girl noticed her family name in one of the headlines. she read the paper through the window and learned she had been kidnapped and held for ransom as an infant-parents paid and kidnapper's were ultimatly arrested.

she was not happy to have learned about it in this manner
