You ain't seen nothin'!
We did a day trip to Six Flags New England yesterday. We were deciding where to have lunch without breaking the bank. My husband suggested we look for a place that sells whole pizzas, remembering that at US, Louies pizza was really a pretty cheap way for a family to eat. Well, we did find a place, and the whole pizza WAS the best bargain... at 21.99 for a cheese pie! And 22.99 for a pepperoni pie! The other options were, a SINGLE SLICE for 6.29, a hamburger or hotdog or chicken strips for around $7, and $3 for a soda! We bought the whole pie, because what other choice did we have? But I told my husband, "never again will I say that the food at Disney or Universal is expensive".

Totally off-topic, the Superman coaster has just replaced DD and Hulk as my daughter's favorite ride. I might have to agree with her (but that's the only reason to go to Six Flags NE) ;)

They do have some half way decent rides at Six Flags. But the fail for the quality of cleansiness and food quality and prices. I've visited several Six Flags parks and they are all the same.

Thanks for the report.
Superman (S:UE) has been voted one of the best steal coasters in the country, it's easily in the top 10, usually in the top 5. Once you've ridden the huge steal coasters like S:UE and Millennium Force at Cedar Point, everything else seems like a kiddie ride.
$21 for a pizza, now that is expensive. The only option you have in the future is to bring a cooler in your car. That would involve leaving the park and then coming back, but that's what many people do. Cedar Point even has a picnic table area just outside the main entrance. It's a time/convenience thing.

Yes Six Flags makes Disney look cheap. We spent last Thursday at our Six Flags in Denver. I was able to get discounted tickets at work ($20, buy 3 get one free - so it cost us $60 for the four of us). But parking was $9. We did get there at opening so got a front row parking place. So we were able to skip the lockers - I don't know the current price, but they were more expensive than Disney last year. Large drinks cost ~$3.75, turkey legs ~$6.75, funnel cake $5, Dipping Dots $6, I got the bargin of a 6" Subway at ~$4.75. Many of the other meals where $7-9. I brought our own water. We probably spent another $60. We went out for dinner at Casa Bonitas for another almost $60. Add in gas to Denver and back and the day probably cost us ~$190. And while fun, definately in a class below Disney and Universal.

I think it's funny some people complain about food prices at disney and universal so much, yet they go other places and spend a fortune and son't seem to notice. I wonder if it is because a lot of people do more planning and examining of disney stuff before their trips than with other trips?

We spent this past Wednesday (July 20) at the Denver 6 Flags also. I wasn't so offended at the food prices - a double cheeseburger with a mountain of fries was ~$7. The drink in a refillable cup was $7 (refills $1). You break even with the normal cost drink cost (~5 each) after 2 refills. All in all, we made out better than we would have at Disney (which we did back in March).

What was offensive was the filthy water in the 2 water rides in the regular park (as opposed to the adjoining water park) - the water was brown & disgusting. Everyone in the family smelled like a dirty sweat sock immediatley afterwards.

Equally offensive was the Batman "stunt" show. 4-5 lousy actors unable to lip-sync with the pre-recorded dialogue, and performing horrible "stunts" (since when did a 2-foot jump on a motorcycle count as a "stunt"?) Plus, lots of gunplay between Batman & the criminals (since when did Batman ever use a gun?!!?) - not a show for the under-6 crowd, imho.

Driving from Albuquerque wasn't too bad - our 05 Civic averaged 36 mpg - even with the AC running full time and driving at 80+ mph.

Elitches is not only a class below Disney and Universal - it isn't even in the same league. :crazy2: It is just plain disgusting - not one of the 6 Flag gems. Just a huge parking lot with mediocre rides and shows. At least the old Elitches had the beautiful grounds and the playhouse. Now that it is a Six Flags, it has gone way, way downhill. :sad2:

We refuse to go anymore. We just go to Universal several times a year and get our ride fix in there. That $200.00 to visit 6Flags Elitches for one day will get us almost 2 RT tickets to Tampa or Orlando! :cool1:

It Holiday World and Splashin Safari in Santa CLaus Indiana. website www.holidayworld.com

They are addin four new rides next year. Free soft drinks every day and the best value of food you will find at any park. check it out I think you will be very happy what you find. No metal coasters but by next year they will have three wooden coasters.

Hey goofy! How do you get RT tickets from Denver to Orlando for $100? I just paid $244 for next March (had no flexibility on dates due to kids spring break), connecting flight, and figured I did about as well as I could.

Even looking at other times of year, I didn't see much below $185.

I agree, that Batman stunt show was pitiful. At least I did it by myself last year - the girls were in the water park. Their "song and dance" show was amaturish, but was at least a little enjoyable.

I went to Elitches because I figured the kids, who are teens, wanted the coaster rides. Next year I think I am going to skip it and go to Water World.

The best food at a Six Flags park is Six Flags Over Texas. They did have an overabundance of hamburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, and other typical park foods. The price was about $10 for a burger, fries, and a drink. The food was pretty tasty too.

Oh I can't wait to show this thread to my family. We haven't been to Six Flags NE just the old Riverside or whatever it was called back in the day. We have a running joke about Disney food prices so this will make them laugh.

Last August, we got $99.00 RT via AA through lowestprice.com, then we got them for 129.00 RT via NWA through Travelocity. Couple of weeks ago, we flew TED down there (on the TED site), but it was over 250 RT. We had a huge party travelling, so I just booked it when it went under 300. Of course, the following week, they dropped to 190 RT - but too late for us. But I agree, low fares have been few and far between the last 6 months!

We often fly into Tampa as it is MUCH cheaper. We always rent a car, so the hour and a half drive to Orlando doesn't really matter much. And the day we return, we just make it a beach day.

We are usually pretty flexible with our dates, so that helps. I get the Travelocity e-mail when flights go below a certain amount, so I just book when I get the e-mail.

I think it's the fact that you go to Six Flags for a day; when you go to Disney (for me anyway) it's at least 5-10 days worth of eating like that.

That being said, I don't think it's THAT bad at Disney; I'm from NJ, so compare it to Six Flags Great Adventure, or forget that, try the NJ shore for a week.

My Mom is renting a 3 Bed/2bath house on the Point Pleasant Boardwalk for a week for $3100!! (And that is a pretty fair price, considering)Thank god it has a kitchen, and we can eat a lot at the house. Still, boardwalk food is VERY expensive, plus about $6 per day to get on the beach. We hit the kiddie rides every night at about $2 a pop, EACH ride (multiply that by two kids.) I said to her, let's just go to Disney for 2 weeks next year. It will actually be cheaper!!
