Where would you go? ER, wait until Monday for reg. dr., or walk in clinic?

I've had this nagging pain on my right side, right below the hip that reaches forward and back towards my spine. It spasms at times, but otherwise is a constant low nagging pain. I don't feel sick any other way (no fever, chills, etc).

This is the third day and it is getting rather annoying and more constant.

Thanks.

Karen

Well - if it's a kidney stone, it could suddenly slam you with such unbearable pain you might actually pass out.. Ditto for an ovarian cyst that ruptures or starts to leak..

So...I think I'd probably go to the ER if I couldn't get in to see my doctor tonight..

Hope you feel better soon!

You could have pulled a muscle.

Take a family trip to the ER.;)

If it is a kidney stone you may pass it but it could also get lodged in tissue and need to be removed or zapped with a laser.

It sounds like a trip to the ER is in your future....my poor DH has suffered with KS...and the pain is gradual but builds rather quickly...waiting in the ER for 3 hours in agony is not fun.

Take care!

I agree with the previous posters. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

When I had my kidney stone the pain was so bad I couldn't bear it. Tried to drink water and it wouldn't stay down. Walked into the ER and the nurse took one look at me walking in and my face and said "You're passing a kidney stone". She was right - 24 hours later it passed. Not a very happy 24 hours.

Get to the ER and let them look you over.

OK, I'll be the one to get flamed. Something that has gone on for three days is not an emergency in my book. If the pain becomes excruiating, then go to the ER. Otherwise I would go to a walk in clinic in the morning.

I'm with Breezy_Carol... I've got a sick daughter to take care of, I am not vomiting, no fever, not even excrutiating pain. No need to go to the ER in my opinion (they've got enough to take care of). I called the Walk In Clinic near me and they open at 11am tomorrow... good enough for me.

Thanks... it does sound like that is what it is, from here and the internet (I like to google!). So I will drink a ton of water and get it looked at tomorrow morning.

You know MOMs are always last, that is why it has been 3 days... as long as I'm walking around, I'm "fine". ;)

So...

I went into the Walk In Clinic this morning, waited 1 hour to see the "doctor", and after a 2 minute exam (questions) pronounced a "kidney stone". Wow. Yeah, ok. Gave me a script for Vicodan  and Cipro (antibiotic) and said, "Go to the ER if the pain gets worse". The End. lol

I didn't get either script filled yet. Might get the Cipro but not the Vicodan. No need for that yet and I hear that it is a very addicting pain med, lol... I'll just hold on to the script for now.

So, $20 to be told exactly what I figured I had. Hmmm... anyone want $20 to tell me if I like Disney? :p

Schiesters...

Karen

You might want to get the vicodin filled because if at 3am the pain gets worse at least you have something to take. You will not become addicted to them with just one script.

Do you know why they put you on Cipro????? If it is just a kidney stone then there is really no need for an antibiotic. Did they check your urine???? Was there blood in it or did you have white cells too. If I were you I would get that script filled for the Vicodin as soon as possible.

The Cipro makes no sense to me as well. I suffer from kidney stones (my most recent took more than 3 weeks to pass!). Definitely fill the pain med and hold on to it. The pain can hit you quickly when the stone starts moving. I also wonder whether or not you gave a urine sample. They should have been able to check it immediately for blood. When you pass the stone, catch it and have it analyzed by your doctor (you can use a coffee filter for the catch). Don't bother straining your urine until after the pain has passed. Once the stone passes into your bladder, the intense pain will instantly vanish. You should then pass it within the next 12 hours or so. Take it to your doctor, who should also order some additional urine tests (24 hour catch), to try to determine what may be causing your stones. Good luck. I hope you pass it quickly and with the least amount of pain.

They did check my urine for blood and there was none.

He didn't mention any follow up, just if the pain gets worse to head to the ER.

I am running a slight fever now, 99.2, could that be why he put me on an anitbiotic? Who knows...

Thanks...

Karen

Be sure to see your regular doctor on Monday. Although everyone is different, I've never had a stone without blood being present in my urine. Perhaps your doctor may have some better ideas. Good luck.

They gave me Cipro a few months ago too saying it was a UTI. I still suspect kidney stones as I defintely had blood in my urine (scared the hell out of me!!) and recently I had such immediate intense pain in my back that radiated to my side that I was nauseous and could barely move (lasted about 5 hours). Dr. said it was just pregnancy pains. I guess I'll have to just wait and see. They do run in the family. YUCK! I've had some other symptoms too. Not like I can have an xray. Good luck hope you feel better!

Don't worry about Vicodin - it's not that addicting. I've been on it for about 5 months now and I'm not addicted....I think... where's my bottle... is it time for the next dose???? - just kidding :teeth: :teeth:

Seriously though - it's not that bad that a single bottle will send you to rehab. Best to have it on hand.

If there is no blood in your urine than I really doubt that it is a kidney stone. Sounds more like an infection possible pylonephritis. If this is the case you need to be on the Cipro but why did they tell you that it was a kidney stone??? You really need to see your own doctor on Mon. Hope you are feeling better

I'd get both filled, that doesn't mean you have to take them yet.
I hope you feel better soon.
