If you rent a scooter and drive to the parks..

We usually get there early so we can park close. You can also tell the parking people and they'll usually just put you in a handicap spot.

:welcome:
If you have a handicapped hangtag (one from your home state is acceptable), you may park in the reserved section. There is no tram from this section, so you'll ride the ECV and the rest of your party will walk.

DO NOT park in the reserved section without a proper hangtag as you could be ticketed. If you don't have the hangtag, tell each CM in the parking lot that you have an ECV but no hangtag, they will try to direct you close to the reserved section. ECVs cannot go on the trams. Another option if you have another driver is to have them drop you at the TTC (for MK) or park entrance and then go park the car and join you.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks guys! I live near WDW and might have friends visiting from Washington that have never been to the world. I would be able to go without a scooter if they just wanted to go for a few hours but they want to spend ALL day in the parks and I just can't do that with my bad leg. I'm thinking it may be easier to just rent a scooter in the parks even though it's more expensive. But they go fast don't they?

Yes, park rental ECVs are often gone by mid-morning; cost is $50 per day. You can get on a waiting list for when one becomes available, but that could be a while. Unless you plan to arrive early, or won't mind doing the park without an ECV for a while, I'd bring one with you.

Enjoy your vacation!

I hired off site and it went in the back of the intermediate SUV I hired. I just told the guy at the front directing traffic that I had a scooter in the back, and he directed me down to the front and the disabled spaces. And no, I don't have any sort of disabled badge.

The handicap spaces are patrolled by local police that have nothing to do with Disney parking there without a hang tag can be costly and they will not care if a cast member told you to park there

That's not what I was told repeatedly. I don't know if staying on site had anything to do with it, though - obviously I had the parking pass in the front window.

The handicapped parking area has some spots with signs that say they are handicapped parking spots and some that are marked with blue painted lines separating the parking spots.
These are the designated handicapped parking spots and only people with a valid state issued handicapped parking permit can park in those spots.
The county police DO patrol these lots and can ticket people parking there without a valid handicapped parking permit.

Near that area, as lanejudy mentioned, there are other spots that CMs can direct you to. Often, it looks like you are in the handicapped parking area.
The parking spots will be marked off with white paint.

As long as you are parking in a 'white paint' spot, you are fine. If you are parked in a 'blue paint' spot without a handicapped parking permit, you could get a ticket.

Yes, I was directed to a specific area or row.

The OP's question was answered and the thread is headed in a non-positive direction, so I am closing it now.
