So instead of focusing on lands and trying to redo parks I thought I just go from different rides and go in depth about them rather then trying to do land by land or park by park.
So the first ride is the new Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom. Our Magic Kingdom is the father of all Space Mountains, but it is also the oldest. Small updates here and there have kept it somewhat fresh, but the track and the queue need to be brought into the 21st century. So lets start with the outside of the ride. You walk up and the you notice the outside of the building remains unchanged except for a paint job. To keep up with upkeep the ride would go down every year for refurb. The refurb date would be September 8th through the 10th for a Halloween overlay. Something very similar to the
Disneyland overlay except even more in depth. The ride would then go down from November 3rd to November 14th for its removal of the overlay as well as painting, track repair, and light replacements. This will keep the ride fresh with new paint inside and out and keep the ride in perfect condition.
So anyway we move to the ride. At night a new lighting package gives the mountain a whole new look. I really like the lighting package that Hong Kong Disneyland has so check out pictures to see how cool it looks. Out front the entrance has a new canopy over it, but it has a new look. The Fastpass machines also stay, but are given a new look that helps set the mood for this futuristic ride through space. So the story of Space Mountain is that this giant facility is a teleportation facility that beams you up to the Space station. From there you will be the first to test out the new rockets that the Space Mountain company has created. These rockets require no driver and run off charged power by going through a charging tunnel. The rockets are programmed to take you to the space homes of the future. These are homes and living quarters that the Space Mountain company have also created. So the queue and the entire inside of the building has been changed up so dont imagine the same queue. You enter into the building and make an immediate turn to the left. You enter a tunnel that has no windows and has white walls. TVs above you show a loop about the company. As you progress the tunnel winds back and forth through the mountain until you reach the beaming tunnel. Now I didnt want guest to stop in the tunnel so the way it works is there is two beaming rooms. Fastpass and Stand-by merge here. Cast Members then direct you into one of the two slightly large rooms. The process is really quick so the line can keep moving. You enter into the room which is a plain room with white lights aboard the top. The door then closes and you hear over the intercom they are going to beam you up. Obviously you yourself wont be beamed, but the room will. Yet another piece of technology created by the company to help beam large groups of people. The lights go out in the room and special lighting effects start to go off. A star field covers the walls, roof and floors. Loud sounds and other special effects go along with this part as the lights quickly return and the doors on the other side of the room open. You then enter the Space Mountain Space Station. Or the SPSS for short. To your left you see a robot who turns around to welcome you into the Space port. Now the queue breaks up in two directions again as Cast Members direct you where they want you to go.
Before you split up you can look down and see where the trains are loading. Go to your left or right and follow the queue that winds back and forth down the large room on that side. Above you, to the sides and even in certain areas on the floor are giant HD screens that show off space. You will truly feel like you are in a space port. The queue winds back and forth on both sides until it comes near the entrance and you go down a ramp. The ramp then brings you down on either side to loading. The new trains can seat 2 people in row and have 10 rows. You are seated and then you pull down the lap bar. Like the old ride the track is the same for both trains so pick either side you like. For this we are joining the right side. (Right as in when you first enter and go to the ride side queue. Your train then leaves the station and you enter a tunnel and make an immediate right curve. Signs and lights on the wall as well as an intercom let you know the restrain check is approaching. You enter a small room where two Cast Members check the lap bars and such. They then give the all clear as you enter the charging tunnel. The charging tunnel is the lift hill so the giant doors open and you start up the lift. Lighting, fog and sound effects start up as you enter the tunnel. The walls light up in different ways showing it is powering your rocket. Your rocket is slowly picking up speed as the intercom announces how much power the rocket has. Before you reach the top your rocket reaches 100% capacity and your rocket launches from the tunnel into space. It is a mild launch so nothing major that would stop younger kids from riding.
You leave the tunnel and make and immediate sharp right with a slight dip. The dip then takes you down where you make a sharp left turn followed by another dip. You then shoot up a small hill before making a couple more banks. Then you run into an metro show and your rocket dodges those. The rocket makes sharp turns and sudden dips as the giant rocks on screens appear to move towards you. You train makes a few more turns before entering the midway station. Your rocket moves forward at a quick pace into a tunnel where it lights up to power the rocket. Before you can get calmed down you turn from the tunnel into the second half of the ride. More turns followed by the biggest dip lead into the finale. You do a round and round bank that goes on for a while before moving forward and making one more turn. You then slow down as you enter the Space Homes of the future. You round the corner and come to unloading and enter the giant new facility.
The new center will take over some of the Space Mountain building and a small portion of the arcade and store. If you are entering from the store then you can bring your stroller in if you are heading to the railroad stop for Tomorrowland. The back of this store will be reworked to form a queue as well as an inside depot for the train to stop. Guest enter the train inside the building while coming through the doors. Guest unloading will move through the queue to go outside the building a different route to help with congestion issues. The round counter in the store will be moved to the wall to the left when you walk through the doors. The small queue will be straight ahead for the train. To your right there are two sets of escalators. You have the one on the right which is coming down into the lobby. The one on the left is going up into the facility. The room is given a new futuristic sleek look that reflects more of a syfy type future city rather then what the real future may look like. A huge light fixture will be at the top and will be a bunch of bulb type things connected to long poles.
If you decide you are going to go in the facility then you may want to leave your stroller outside. You go inside the escalator as you are going to go through the beaming tunnel. The tunnel is black but has lights on the walls like those purple lights you see on the Nemo ride at Epcot. They cover the walls and roof and are in both tunnels going up and down. Once you make it to the top you enter a space plaza. In the center of the room is a hole with railing where you can look over and see the bottom of the station into space. The walls also have opening that will have screens as the entire roof is gone giant screen. Straight across from the escalator is where the tunnel that the Space Mountain guest come through. The tunnel is very small and is literally there to connect the two rooms and to help keep guest from seeing the unloading. To help the illusion if you look through certain portions of the glass you can see outside in space the section of the building that is unloading. You will even see rockets flying into the station just not the real rockets.
So obviously there are going to be things to do up in this room so you look around and see some of the new shops and eateries that this place has to offer. (To help with the visual imagine the room as a clock. The escalators will be 6 while the unloading tunnel is 12. At about 4 there is the Space Home of the Future. They are having an open house and you are invited to tour this modeled home. You can go in and see the different things as a Cast Member takes you through the different rooms in small groups. There are different appliances that dont show what the real future looks like, but what the syfy future looks like. So look out for things that wont necessarily make their way into the real world. Since this company wants you to feel at home even in Space the front of the house (or the wall of the station) is decorated to look like a small house front. There is a mailbox and a little fence with a box of flowers to the side. You will find things in the house like windows that can show off different scenes from Earth to help you not feel lonely in space. There is a laser baker that bakes cakes in 5 seconds. There is even the bathtub that shoots water from all directions to insure a totally clean body.
So moving on to 2 o clock we come to a main dining facility for Tomorrowland. This is a more high class eatery which is something Magic Kingdom doesnt seem to have except for the castle. When you go inside you can imagine the room from Tron where the boy finds his father. The tiles on the floor are white and light up. The roof is also lit up with tiles and towards the back and sides of the room is windows showing off space. The giant room has dividers separating the room into three sections. In the middle of the room is a fireplace that has blue fire burning inside of it. The food here is more upscale and has things like steak, lobster, fish and chicken. Also expect a hefty price tag as well. The tables will be white while the chairs will be a dark blue. Each table will have a candle type item at the center, but it wont be a candle but a blue glowing light. Towards the back is a bar that is white with a slight curved body to give it a more sleek look. Special drinks and cocktails can be made for guest who wish to have them.
Moving on to 10 we have the store for the area. It is the store where you can buy your photo from the ride or just grab a small gift. The shop isnt super large so there wont be a lot of things in it. The name Star Traders will be given and taken from Mickeys Star Traders which will see a name change soon.
At 8 there is a small ice cream store where guest can buy different flavors of ice cream. No name as of yet, but the store will serve ice cream as well as different sodas and drinks. A very small amount of seating will be inside and outside the room.
