............do you get Disney dollars for change, or cash?

Everytime we have used Disney dollars we always were paid in cash for the change.:sunny:

We usually keep Disney Dollars for the cart vendors. If we have saved enough, we will put them on account at check-in and they get credited like cash towards our final bill. They deduct out cash and Disney Dollars before they send a charge out to your credit card.

Happy Planning! Maggie

so i mean really what is the point in the vouchers other than gifts? If you get cash back then i doubt you would get a better 'exchange rate' but i mean is the only draw pretty pictures? or do u get something if you spend a certain amount etc.?

thanks

For me...Disney dollars are a great way to save for our trip. It has taken us 6 years to save up for this trip. We save all our change, we have garage sales, and do whatever it takes to get enough money. If I buy Disney dollars, and keep them in me "Disney Box", there is no way I can use that money for anything unimportant...like bills :rotfl2: ! Everytime I am near the Disney store, I get at least 20 dollars worth. It adds up!....and it doesn't hurt the pocketbook as much if you do it a little at a time. :rotfl:

Disney Dollars are simply a fun extra for kids. Many kids love the idea of having their own Disney money on vacation.

But Disney makes money on DD$, even though they are always equal in value to the US dollar, because plenty of people buy them and keep leftovers as souveniers of their trips, or collect them as I do (I collect the $1 notes).

They can also be used as a method of saving for a trip, since the only place you can spend them is at WDW parks and resorts, or at the Disney Store. This prevents you from dipping into your vacation fund.

Since we're on the topic of Disney dollars, can you tell me if they ever outdate? In other words 2006 DD's will be good in 2008?

hey thanks guys, great answers! great way to save as well it seems!

Our family will give them for Birthdays and Holidays. It's more personal than just giving cash and it helps a lot when the trip comes up. We feel like we got a "present" rather than just money that we will use for unimportant things like bills (as told in a previous post).

I know the question has been answered, but throwing this out there. When I worked merch down there, we NEVER had Disney Dollars in our drawer unless someone paid with them (I can think of once during my five months that someone paid with them - they're really not that common) So most CMs with a drawer (merchandise, dining, etc) don't even have access to Disney Dollars to give you change back if you wanted.

Can you pay with them in the pavilions around World Showcase? Are there any locations around WDW that don't accept them for payment? TIA!

Anyone know of any locations around WDW that might not accept Disney Dollars? Our DS' s have tons of Mickey Money (as they call it) to spend; the older one especially wants to do all his own shopping. I can just imagine the look on his face if he picks something in the one shop that won't accept it for payment.

Less than a week to go until we're there! WOO HOO! :cool1:

TIA for any info on Disney Dollars!

This may have changed, but during our 1998 trip Rainforest Cafe at AK did not take them, since they are separate from Disney and technically outside of the park. I don't know if they have since made arrangements.
