If you like where you live...

Our town has just about all one could ask for: great schools, beautiful beaches, lakes, great recreational facilities, restaurants and shopping. It is a very large town, but somehow has kept the feeling of a small new england town. We are only about 45 minutes from Manhattan and 2 hours from Boston. It's VERY expensive to live here, however, and once our kids are grown, we will probably move somewhere less expensive.

I LOVE where I live

1--love the atmosphere and warmth and beauty of the south

2--My area is small enough to feel "homey" but large enough to have cool things to do--sports, theater, etc...

3-No traffic problems

4-Great neighborhood--Great Pool--Low Cost of Living--Good School

OMGoodness, I have to round up all the Chicag othreads here on the DIS and make a montage. It is a great city!!!!!!

I love Chicago!!! I wish I could convince DH to move there! He is from Western KS and Kansas City is plenty big enough for him! He loves it there too, to visit.

I just wanted to say that I think the KC area is terrific too. I also enjoy my visits to Chicago, but I always go in August:D

Yes! I did! I saw your post on another thread and when I saw that photo of him, I was hoping he was a SINGLE dad, LOL! Your dd is about the same age as mine. Maybe you should put yourself in the photo, too.:D

LOL! I am totaly computer illiterate, thats why I only have the one pic up. I had a hard enough time with that one, so I didnt attempt another. When hubby comes back from his deployment I'll have him do it for me.

:D

I live in Newburgh, NY. It's about an hour north of NYC. There are some things that I'd like to change here, but for the most part, it's pretty good. I'm close enough to NYC and Yankee Stadium, but I can also go mountain biking nearby. The area is rich in history and there's plenty to see and do if you just look.

If I had my choice I would live in the Houston area or in San Antonio. But Texas is overall a good choice IMO so I'll just list the advantages of Texas in general.

Great shopping and dining
Great museums and festivals
San Antonio
West Texas with its forts, mesas, ghost towns and cowboys
Horses
Schlitterbahn
Lots of Germans, Scandinavians, Hispanics and so on
The Texas state of mind

Don't forget the RiverWalk!! I love San Antonio. My cousin lives there and we go visit every year.::yes::
Just got back from the Final Four there.

Twin Cities area of Minnesota is a great place. We have wonderful arts here with the Guthrie theater, numerous dinner theaters and the Ordway and Orchestra Hall. Minneapolis is a city of lakes. I believe there are dozens within the city limits, while St. Paul and Minneapolis are both river towns, with the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota nearby. The Mississippi actually divides the two cities.

We have great sports teams...TWINS, TIMBERWOLVES, VIKINGS, and WILD.

Of course, there is the ever popular Mall of America. A great place to shop, and Minnesota does not have sales tax on clothing or food (except for restaurants).

We have a race track, casinos, amusement parks (Valley Fair, and Camp Snoopy), LOTS of lakes with great fishing, Historic Fort Snelling, Murphy's Landing, the History center, the Science Museum, and Children's Museum, The Bell Museum of Natural History, The Walker Art Center, The American Swedish Institute, and Sculpture Gardens etc etc. etc....

Not going to mention the winters, but every area of the country gets its undesireable season. Here it is the cold like it is the heat in some other areas. That's maybe why I like it here! I can tolerate cold a lot easier than I tolerate heat! Besides, it gives us something to talk about all year!:jester:

I'm across the Hudson river from Mickey76 in Hopewell Junction, NY.

I love seeing mountains all around me and watching the deer in my backyard. (Even when they're eating our shrubs.;) )

Our town requires a minimum of one acre for a house, so we have plenty of property and aren't right on top of our neighbors.

The main roads can be busy, but most of the roads I travel have light traffic. It's a pretty quiet and peaceful area.

NY city is about an hour south of here so going to a play is no big deal.

I love it, but I'll probably end up moving south when DH retires. He's not a big fan of winter. :(

I had a huge love affair with Cranbury, NJ. The town looks like the real-life representation of a Norman Rockwell painting. It's easily commutable to NYC or Philly. The elementary school has one or two classes per grade, the mascot is the "Apple." Then they send to Princeton High for HS, keeping housing values safely in the stratosphere.

Now I live in the West Village in NYC, which has an appeal all its own. Fabulous shopping, Hudson River Park, not congested with cars, cobblestoned streets, great restaurants, convenience.
