if you know Joe Morelli, Stephanie Plum and Lula, I want to talk to you!

I'm also a big fan. I have all the books and the holiday series. It's my go to when needing some cheer.

My sweet husband took me to see the movie this weekend after a melt down.

I didn't think it was that bad to be honest. I did not like Debbie Reynolds as Grandma simply because I pictured her looking different. I was not a big fan of Ranger but he did grow on me during the movie. As for KH as Stephanie, about halfway through I realized that I was thinking of her as Stephanie so she must have done something right even if there was no accent for the most part.

I thought Connie and Mrs. Plum were great! Sherri Shephard did really well and the guy playing the crazy boxer was spot on.

I know people want more funerals and grandma scenes but I think that's because it is expected from the entire series. I kept reminding myself that this was just a movie about book one.

I would still LOVE LOVE a television series more than a movie.

Tina, I'm with you. A television series would be awesome!

I understand how they couldn't get everything in to the movie so I'm hoping for a movie about book 2 and 3....

Just like the book #1, you really just get to know the characters then. You get to know them better the more you read.

I saw the movie today. KH as Stephanie grew on me. Debbie Reynolds is too pretty for Grandma Mazur. She needs to wear large, old people glasses or something like that. The guy who played Morelli fit the part but Ranger was not "hot" enough. He needs an "it" factor, shave his head or something, maybe bulk up.

Vinnie is just right as a scuz bag though I pictured someone more like Danny DeVito. The woman who played Lula did well, they just didn't show enough of her.

As a PP said, I hope that they make more movies. They'll need more to develop the characters that we all know and love.

I noticed in the cast list that Carmen was listed so they must have cut her in editing.

I found the movie better in the last half than the first but then I've read most of the books. To a person that this is new to, hopefully they enjoyed it more.

I am on Book 17. I love this series!
I will probably wait for the movie to come out on video.

I just watched the Hangover on TV last night, and Bradley Cooper is how i picture Morelli!

Shemar Moore was just out of the shower glistening nude from the hips up during the first 10 minutes of Criminal Minds last Wednesday night. Now that's someone with the Ranger "it" factor. Talk about swooning.:faint:

Cloris Leachman would have been good, or Katherine Helmond, or the actress who played the grandmother in "Happy Gilmore" (she didn't pass away until after the original "One for the Money" release date). Any of these actresses has the Grandma Mazur body type more than either Reynolds or White.

Sherri Shepherd as Lula was good. What I didn't like, was in one scene, she gets beat up and Stephanie takes her to the hospital. They show her leaving the ER. Next time we see Lula, she's working at the bail bonds office. No talk about her wanting to leave her "profession" and get a normal job.
Drawback of moviemaking. You can't include every detail from a 200 page book in a 100 minute movie, and action is more captivating than conversation.

Honestly, what they should have done is had somebody screen episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order:SVU.
The Ranger actor is "there". I've seen him, in a courtroom scene at the defense table. I 'know' it. :teeth:

But Sherri Shepherd is perfect as Lula.

she is, isn't she?

She said when she read the boks years agom she decided she wanted to be Lula if it ever went to a movie. I think she's go good because she was a fan of the books before anyone ever thought about the movie.

I think Daniel Sunjata might be able to pull it off if he reads some more of the books....he said he's read two.

I hope so. He just doesn't seem cool and aloof enough like I pictured Ranger to be. He's going to have to step it up if we're going to melt when he says "Babe".

I just found this thread. I have to say I agree about Grandma Mazur. Debbie Reynolds is just too young-looking and pretty. She's supposed to look like MY grandma. I didn't really like Kathryn Heigel as Stephanie, either. I know Sandra Bullock is too old now, but they could have done better than KH (besides, I know that Stephanie Plum looks like Sandra). I was concerned about the actor they chose for Morelli, but I have to say this: he was the only character that REALLY worked for me. I hated Ranger; he was too smiley and pretty. And I agree that Shemar Moore would have been a better choice (funny enough, it was my DH that pointed that out to me). That man makes my thighs sweat.
I sorta liked Lula and can't think of anyone better to play her, so she'll do. Now, Vinnie...well, Vinnie looks like Steve Buscemi in my head. I can't think of a good Connie at the moment, though.
Oh, and hey, didn't we meet Mooner in the first book?
Over all, the movie was funny but I wouldn't pay full price to see the second one. All that being said, you know I'll be buying the stupid thing when it comes out on DVD. ;)

obviously, the answer is this: he needs to come and sit down for lunch with all of us from the dis boards who have read the books (repeatedly) and we can explain it to him. he doesn't need an acting coach -- he just needs us! We can explain it to him.

I finally saw the movie this week. DH wanted to see some other movie but it had already started so I talked him into this. I was fairly disappointed.

KH is NOT Stephanie, ranger was all wrong and so was Grandma M. And I felt like we missed all the good stuff for some reason but I can't put my finger on anything specific. I didn't laugh like I did reading the books. DH fell asleep.

Does anyone else get Janet Evanovich's newsletter? On Valentine's Day I received a cute card from Steph, Morelli, and Ranger.

I saw the movie when it came out and liked it. Guess I'm in the minority because I loved DS as Ranger, though I thought the director misdirected him a lot. (As mentioned, too much smiling). Maybe DS fans are people like me who know him from Rescue Me.

Not a big KH fan, and not a fan of her in this movie still. She's just not scrawny and awkward enough and just didn't have enough Stephanie-ness. :)

I liked all the rest okay, but my favorite cast was definitely Sheri S as Lula! Perfect!

I just finished 18 and liked it fine. Just the normal fare but amusing. :goodvibes

I've read all the books. I just love Lula - she cracks me up. I can't read her books when I should be quiet, because I just bust out laughing so hard I almost roll on the floor and my stomach just kills me :rotfl: My husband just looks at me and I just crack up that much more. He reads some of them and does the same. I'll admit some are better than others "smokin 17" wasn't the best. Also Grandma Mazer (?) cracks me up too! :thumbsup2
