the following stuff, could you please do me a favour and give me your input on the threads (I linked them)?

(1) Cheap hotels within walking distance of DLR:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2058183

(2) Cheap hotels in the San Francisco area, driving from BC to San Francisco and stuff to do there with children:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2059354

(3) Anticipated crowd levels at DLR in mid-June:

Those boards move a lot slower than the WDW boards!

Thank you for your help :flower3:

I hope you don't mind me replying here so I can answer all three...
1. We stayed at the Howard Johnsons which is just down the street from the park entrance. I would definitely recommend staying within walking distance since it is very convenient for going back to the hotel to change, swim etc or have a meal outside of the park. There is a dis rate for Hojos and the rooms are very spacious, clean and have fridges and microwaves. On the DL forum there is a ton of info and recommendations for different hotels.
2. In San Fran we used Hotwire and got the Holiday Inn for $69 which is very inexpensive for that area. Most hotels also have very high parking rates (25-35/night) so make sure when looking into hotels you check that out. The Holiday Inn that we stayed at was walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf which is an area I would recommend for the kids. We took our kids on the night Alcatraz tour which we all loved and we rented bikes one day and rode across the Golden Gate Bridge.
3. I'm not sure about DL crowds in June because we were there in July but I do know that if at all possible avoid DL on a weekend. We went on a Tues, Wed and Thurs and I didn't find the crowds too bad at all.

Have a nice time and any other questions feel free to ask!

Unfortunately I can only give you a suggestion for option #1.

I would recommend the Candy Cane Inn as a potential hotel for your trip. It is not an official Good Neighbour hotel, however....

- It has a nice pool and hot tub
- Free continental breakfasts in the morning
- Free shuttles to and from the park
- About 5-10 min walk to shuttle that takes you to the park (really quick).

My whole family (20 of us) stayed there a couple of years ago and everyone enjoyed it (no complaints).

1. We always stay in the hotels in Garden Grove (Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott Suites, Marriott, etc.). I always get a great rate ($55 or less) through Priceline, and we love being so close to a Target to get snacks, water and other things. I know you want walking distance, and the Fairfield Anaheim, Candy Cane Inn and Hojo Anaheim come to mind. Maybe you can try to get the Entertainment Book rate at the Hojo?

2. In SF, we got Le Meridien (a Starwood hotel) for $85 a night through Priceline. It was an amazing hotel. The only bad thing about SF hotels is the parking. You can easily pay $50+ per day for parking your vehicle.

3. I think the crowds at DL may start going up in mid-June. Unlike B.C. schools where summer vacation starts end of June, a lot of kids in the U.S. get off in mid-June and then go back to school in mid-August. (We have friends in California and in New York whose kids have that vacation schedule.)

Thank you everyone!!! Your information and advice is much appreciated :flower3:

The first two (value and moderate) hotels in the offer from my wickedly awesome TA were the Ramada Inn Maingate and the Best Western Stovalls. It looks like the Ramada may be the best fit for us, due to it's location and the hot tub (LOL!) - what are your thoughts on these two options?

Check the reviews on Expedia and Tripadvisor.
While we have not been to DL in a couple of years we have stayed at the Candy Cane Inn a number of times over the last 14 years and would highly recommend it. (Great location, great breakfast, lovely pool area w hot tub)
We have stayed at HOJOs as well and it was fine, we would stay there again. Also I believe they have upgraded it since we were there. HOJOs usually has special rate offers check mousesavers.com as well.

Hi All,

I'm loving this thread as I am planning a similar trip (only sooner, yikes! :scared1: )

Am going March 26 to Apr 10th and have been looking for a recommended hotel close to DLR with free parking

Have discovered that there is a participating good neighbour promo going on until April 30th where you pay for 3 nights and get the 4th for free :thumbsup2

Also checking into CAA as they are offering if you book through them a $25 voucher for a meal at DLR :thumbsup2

Also heard there is a ticket promo.... Adults get in at kids prices :thumbsup2

Yeah... gotto love promos :thumbsup2

Thanks to replying posters here, I am now going to check and make sure we don't get dinged for a hefty parking fee at the hotels in SF!!

Hi Lisa!:wave2:
Have you posted on the DL board yet? I would post these questions over there - when I was going to DLR last March that board was awesome, I learned so much and that's after having lived in SoCal before too.
I always got a fast response on that board and very helpful insight.

My last trip I stayed at HoJo's and loved it. Huge nice rooms (you can get DL views, I had a great view of the Matterhorn) newly redone pirate pool, staff was awesome, loved loved loved it. I've also stayed on property at all of the 3 DLR hotels.

Have FUN!!

The drive from San Fran to DL can take anywhere from 6-8 hours depending on the time of day, traffic and detours.:thumbsup2
