...while on a WDW vacation, would you limit the rides you went on?

I will be just finishing up my 2 week wait while I'm in WDW, so I might be PG or I might not be while there. Obviously I would only be brand-new-ly pregnant, not showing or anything.

So, this might be stupid, but at this stage, would I need to limit the rides I go on? What about the rides is unsafe when PG, the shaking or the pressure on the belly?

Sorry if this is clueless and dumb, I really have no clue. Maybe a quick call to the OB/Gyn would be wise?

well I think if you are not sure......then just act like you are not pregnant. Most people don't even know they are pregant that early and are doing much more harmful things (drinking, smoking, taking OTC meds).

that being said....if you were pregnant and lost the baby, you might have some guilt about going on some of the thrill rides even if there was no connection to the eventual outcome.

If it was me, I would take a home preg test and avoind the rides with big drops (roller coasters, TOT, splash mountain, etc)

I have been to disney 7 months pregnant and it was no big deal skipping those rides, it is still magical. Good luck.:flower3:

I actually found out I was pregnant a week after we returned. I was about 2 weeks pregnant when we were there and went on EVERYTHING! I did feel like crud the entire day after riding Mission to Mars, but just assumed it was the ride. No harm done. My son is now 2 and is developmentally above average so I don't think Tower of Terror or even the beer I had in Epcot made him any worse for the wear! LOL Good luck with your HPT.

That's the problem with asking a question online; you're bound to get conflicting advice.

I would advise the exact opposite... act as though you ARE pregnant. Don't take chances with such a wonderful gift. There's enough magic at WDW that you could skip the few jarring rides and still have the time of your life.

I read in your other post that you have a 2 or 3 year old, right? Then consider only going on the rides that are safe for him (or was it "her"??)

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

A few years ago I was 8 weeks pregnant at WDW. My OB-GYN took me a little early (they normally don't want to see you until you are at least 8 weeks if you have no complications.) I had been very sick so he gave me Zofran.

He told me I could ride or do anything I felt up to. I did mission space and a few other rides.

My best friend meet us down there. She found out the morning they left to fly down. It was a great surprise (and the 2 kids are best friends now, just 4 weeks apart in age.)

She knew her doc would tell her to do anything see wanted at that stage. When she was pregnant before and it was very early he said she could even go white water rafting. It might kill her, but the baby should be fine that early. They are so small and so protected. She doesn't like thrill rides, and had to sit off with her 2 year old anyway so we didn't do as many.

Best of luck. I guess take some tests with you if you really need to know (and some other things you might need if you are not.) The brand they sell at WDW isn't the good kind.

When I was pregnant with my first, my doctor told me the only thing not to do the first trimester was water ski (It has nothing to do with falling, but rather it being possible that a force of water could rush up into you) and use a hot tub. He told me he has professional soccer players he lets play if they feel like it.

The trouble with acting like you are pregnant is it is heartbreaking when you are not. I did that for about a year with my first. The first month I stopped doing it is when I found out I was pregnant. My DS 8 is wonderful despite having two beers on Fourth of July when he was about two weeks in utero.

Have fun!

Yep, don't do summit plumit or any other high speed water rides. Something about pressured water can enter the body.

I did the hot tub a few times when pregnant with both kids. I just was careful, mostly just put my legs in and made very sure not to over heated. It was a bit chilly and I wanted to warm up!

Personally, if I *knew* I was pg, I wouldn't ride the rides. If I was just on the 2WW, assuming that I hadn't undergone any costly procedures to attempt conception, then I would go on rides. My reasoning is that many OBs do say that the rides are fine...it's not a "known" risk. You don't get to go to Disney that often, and giving up the rides for something "double uncertain" (not knowing if they were harmful AND not knowing if I was pg) wasn't justifiable to me. During every 2WW (and I had way more than I wish to get pg with the 1st!) I would avoid known toxins, like alcohol, but I waited until knowing I was pregnant to worry about the ones that are more unsure (like deli meat and diet soda).

You have to follow your conscience. You are going to find people on both sides. Doesn't mean one side is right and one side is wrong. They just have different points of view. You have to be able to do what you want knowing you made the decision, not some people on-line. What makes you think you may be pregnant? Do a test, then you would know for sure and make your decision based on fact, not supposition. I am sure there are pregnancy tests in the commisaries!

Good luck with your decision & let us know how you did!

I've had 3 miscarriages so I'd personally err on the cautious side. I'd definately skip TOT and Mission Space, RNR and Everest. Those exhibit more force on your body that you experience in day to day life, kwim? I'll still do Splash Mountain (my favorite!) and probably the milder coasters because I love those too! Yes, the baby is very very protected. Personally I seem to have implantation issues - so just in case I were preggers, I don't want to knock it loose! Not that it works that way - I've just has so much trouble that I imagine that first little bundle of cells being more fragile than it really is.

Have a great time!

I would do anything I wanted to do. I would even have a glass of wine if I felt like it. At that point the vast majority of women don't even know they are pregnant. Riding a ride is not going to hurt the baby at this point or humans would have become extinct years ago! We aren't that fragile. Women work for 9 months are professional athletes, run, bike, dance etc. Believe me working in a busy ER is a lot more strenuous than TOT! RNR is smoother than most interstates. The body is designed to continue living while pregnant. Go have fun and don't dwell on it.

my sister was preg last year on her trip to DL and didnt know until she got back. She really had no clue and went on everything. She now calls it their sons first trip to Disneyland:) she also recalls getting very weepy at seeing little kids having fun so the harmones had kicked in already.

First of all, thank you all so much for your opinions and information, I appreciate it so much.

Here's a little more info: It's just me and my sister, we're going for 2 days, 1 to MK and one to Epcot. I will not go on Mission Space for a million dollars, so that's not an issue. I will decide about Space Mountain when the time comes. Since we're not going to AK or MGM, I don't have to worry about ToT or RnRC or EE. I still think I might call my doctor just to see what he says, hope he doesn't laugh at me!

I know what you mean about feeling guilty if - heaven forbid - something happen like a m/c. But on the other hand, I want to know the facts and the real risk involved, if there is any. Silly to skip rides when there is really no risk at all. It's not like I'll be showing or anything.

I don't think I'll get a BFP before the 25th, and that's when we'll be there. So I won't know if I am PG until then, if not afterwards. I'll definitely bring a few PG tests from home, my friend sells them online.

We're on our 3rd cycle of TTC and our first cycle of Clomid. With DD#1 we got PG on our first cycle of Clomid, so I'm praying that we have the same luck this time! I feel like being able to POAS in WDW will be the magic that we need, it's meant to be! Then I can always tell my child I found out about him/her in Disney World! :wizard:

Thanks again, keep the thoughts coming!

I was in that situation last year where my 2ww was supposed to end right around the end of my trip. Vacation threw me off, and I ended up Oing late anyhow... actually as soon as we got home. We had been trying for 5 months at that point, and what I decided was that I would ride Splash Mtn, but not big thunder or space, which I would have ridden if we weren't TTC. I don't do RNR, TOT, Mission Space or everest anyhow, so that wasn't an issue for me. Splash was the only one I'd really be upset about skipping, and nothing was happening anyhow, so I rode it. Here we are a year and 2 m/c's later and we are still trying. I would probably do the same thing.

If there is a chance you are pregnant, why take the chance? Yes, chances are that there will be no problem. But why take that chance? This is obviously a personal choice, but there is so much to do that doesn't put your baby at risk!

I don't know that anyone here is qualified to answer that question for you. You really should discuss this with your OB.

Even if my OB told me it was OK, I probably wouldn't risk it. Who knows what effect it may/may not have so I'd take a "better safe than sorry" approach since going on the rides wouldn't be important enough to me to risk losing the pregnancy or causing a problem.
