Amerigas called me this afternoon offering me a fill for $1.19 a gallon for our 120 gallon tank. They said it was some promotion to get people to buy gas. Well, I just got a fill in May, for $5.83 a gallon :( I was mad! The lady said that if I'd called their corporate office, she would have honored that price for the May fill. I told her I wanted it honored, so she had me call the local office...and they honored it with no problem, sending a refund of nearly $500. Apparently the corporate office in Georgia can negotiate prices with you before a fill, you just have to call them and ask what promotions they are running. We are on the verge of converting our water heater to electric because propane costs SO much, but if I can negotiate like this I'm game.

Call your local office right now and try to get this price. It's a big promotion they are running. I'm in the "Southern region". Hope this helps someone.

we recently had our tank topped off w/our local company and it was about the same price. no minimum gallon requirement. 5.83 is crazy high-in 9 years I never remember paying more than 3.25 a gallon.

we realized a few years ago that if we can time our usage such that our refills are in the late spring or summer we see much lower prices (and with a 1000 gallon tank it makes a world of difference).

Oh I agree, $5.83/gallon is an awful price. However, this is the ONLY propane company in the area (no competition), and I live in FL where they deem propane a "luxury item" since it's normally used for pool heating here. The original owners who built the house that we now own installed a propane water heater so they'd have hot water if there was power loss due to storms. It's ridiculous and has cost us an arm and a leg in the past 5 years. After this experience, we are converting from propane to electric for our water heater. DH is already calling electricians for quotes.

We can't time our fill pricing unfortunately, but it's fantastic that you can! I'll bet that that helps. We need a fill every 3 months or so. It's a 120 gallon tank.
