Where do you leave him/her when you travel to Disney? :dog:

DH and I have a pug :pug: and a lab, and are leaving the lab with a family friend, and the pug with my brother.

I am just slightly worried b/c my brother is just not an "animal" person...and my pug is my baby!!

I am sure she will be ok....was just curious what all of you do with your animals when you go to WDW? :confused3

We leave our babies (2 minature dachshunds) at a kennel. (Our vet has described it as a doggie hotel.) They have "roomettes" which allow the dogs to go inside or outside at their pleasure. They stay in the same room per our request. The owner just happens to have 3 dachshunds and always gives ours a little extra love! No one in our family are "dog" people and our dogs have their own routine and quirks. It's much easier to leave them in the kennel. Of course, we call a couple of times to make sure they are okay as we go for 2 weeks at a time.

We have a Golden Retriever that is more spoiled then should be allowed. He doesn’t do well when in other home environments so to make the time go by a little smoother we have a home sitter for him while we go away. Our house sits on the lake in the woods so we rarely have any problems with recruiting someone in our circle of family and friends willing to watch our fur baby in turn for a week stay at home.

We also put Jazzy in a kennel.

We have no family that lives close enough to take her out as needed. she loves the people at the kennel...we pay for extra "play time" each day (loves her frisbee) and she always looks happy and clean when we pick her up when we return.

Yup, our Vet has a doggie hotel and we so love to drop our Maximus off there! :dog2: :paw: :pug: :dog:

They take great care of him and give him LOTS of love :goodvibes
My DH took Max in the other day for his ears, and one of the Vet helpers stopped my DH outside while he was leaving. She said "Is that my Maximus??". She recognized him from when he stays at the hotel. She said that she is his fairy godmother and gives him extra treats and love

So that is why is always comes home 1-2 pounds heavier ;)

It just feels safe knowing that they take good care of him. I would him rather run around and play with other dogs than stay in someones home all day with nothing to do but look out the window and pant (much like he does at home) LOL. I consider the doggie hotel, his vacation and HIS time to catch up with friends :)

My best friend will come over and house sit and dog sit when we are out of town for any reason, including our yearly trips to Disney.

This place sounds great!! Please tell the name! I live in Londonderry, NH and would love to check it out! :pug:

Our niece and her husband housesit/"furbaby"sit when we are gone for the week for WDW. They do it because they like the dogs (a lab and a cattle dog) not because we are their special favorites;) ! For short trips, they go to the doggie motel, they stay together in an individually climate controlled room with a tv. DH insists on this!

I have 4 cats and 1 dog. My cats just stay home. We put enough food in the feeder for them and enough water bowls around the house. I have my parents and DH's parents come and check on them. With the dog, my DH's parents have a black lab and a golden retreiver and my dog (Molly a black lab) is best friends with the golden retreiver. So she goes over there. She never wants to come home afterwards though. :rotfl:

I've tried kennels, the vet, my friends, and none were a satisfactory answer. My Standard Poodle Ruby mourns when I'm gone. Enter Doris DoggieSitter! She comes to my house, hunkers in and does nothing but love and play with my girl 24/7 while I'm gone. And yes, she lets Ruby sleep with her! She's my perfect solution (at $35/day)! Ruby checks the guest room looking for Doris for days after I return home.

We put our basset hound in the kennel at our vet's office. We've tried friends, and we've tried pet sitters, and it just didn't work out as well. We've gone the Vet route, and everyone has been happy!

We have one dog, and usually my parent's take him over to their house when we are gone. But if they are gone too, he goes back to the kennel we adopted him from and he loves it. We tried our vet's just once and he came home miserable. :guilty:

Scout will usually stay with my parents or head over to my brothers house to say with his half brother Zeus while I'm gone. I still get worried about him on trips though...I take a framed pic along anc call to check up on him each day!

Not to disrupt their normal patterns, and pull them away from their home, I have a "fur baby nanny" come in. She actually works for their vet, who is 2 minutes away from my home! :cool1:

She sees them in the morning and in the evening. She also has two other little dogs and brings them over so they can "play". I think they get more a vacation than anyone with this set up! :flower:

Luckily my sister takes care of my Pebbles when I vacation. When my sister and her family join me on a Disney trip, I have a friend stay at my apartment. In May, my friends in California volunteered! Not a bad trade!

There are advantages to having grown children who refuse to take up their own space that doesn't belong to you.

They can stay home while mom and dad does disney and take care of the fur things and sometimes younger siblings.

I'm so lucky that my Mom considers our "Fiona" another grandchild and has been awesome about taking her for us whenever we go away. The one time that my parent's vacation overlapped ours the manager of Fiona's doggie daycare took care of her for us and she was very happy there too.

I wish I could post a picture of her here but I don't know how to do that. She's an English Bulldog and last time at Universal we brought her home some Fiona ears and she looked so cute in them.

I have a mini-dachshund too, and she pre-dates DH, DS11 and DD9. Since she is in her 17th year, I am happy to pay the $30 a night to board her with her vet. Its a small price for me to pay for peace of mind. If she needs medical care, her vet is right there. The front desk staff bring her to their desks for the day and spoil her rotten!

:dog: I have only had my baby Neeko (shih-tzu) since Mother's Day, so this will be our first time to have to leave him. We are going to WDW in Sept. Since the breeder we bought him from has been extremely kind (he calls every 3 weeks or so just to check and see how he's doing), he's offered to "puppysit" for us while we're gone for free! Since this guy spoils his dogs just as much as I've spoiled Neeko, I feel very good about it! :goodvibes He will get to have a vacation/family reunion with his daddy and a few siblings. I just hope he will want to come home when we return!! ;)

Our "Aimee",is a 3 yo Boxer/Pitt mix and she's VERY spoiled. Last mini trip we took,we left her at our home, and our neighbore came over 3 times a day,to feed her,and take her out. She was a wreck by the time we got home! :guilty: Our neighbore did EVERYTHING right, but poor Aimee, thought we abandon her. Never again. Next trip, she'll go to the kennel, where she can be w/ other dogs, and there are people constantly around her. Poor thing had an upset stomach, and followed me around for 2 weeks after we got back.It was a tough lesson learned. She definetly had seperation anxiety. :guilty:
