If You Had To Move Your Trip: Did you have to pay the difference if your new dates cost more?

Our dates have not been cancelled (yet) nor are they super close to the window where they might be (we go end of June), BUT.
I was pricing out some of the only other dates we could go and it could double or 2.5x the cost of our trip.
So I wanted to see if for any of those who rebooked: did you have to pay a difference fee? If your new dates cost more than your original ones, did you have to pay more? Thanks!

If you've rebooked outside of the discount window, the short answer is yes, you'd pay the difference.....but the long answer is that depending when you've rebooked, those discounts may not even be posted yet and you'd be eligible to apply THOSE discounts to your new booking IF they are available where you are staying. Example: My original booking was in March at a Value with a 15% discount applied. My new booking is now in October. Total is now more than my original booking and the difference is my responsibility. HOWEVER, The discounts for THOSE months have not been posted yet, but I will be scanning like a hawk to get those applied to my new booking when they become available. I may come out ahead in the long run.

Yes, you will be charged prevailing rates for the new dates. As DWillowBay explained, you can then keep an eye out for discounts for those dates and try to apply them to your reservation ( or modify your reservation to something that qualifies for the discount) when they are released.

Ticket expiration dates are being extended for those impacted directly, so you will not have to pay more for tickets assuming you can reschedule within the allotted time period (currently through Dec. 15, 2020).

Resort rates do not carry forward, so you will be charged for the rates that apply to your new dates. However, you may be able to pick up a discount -- either at rebooking or later once released.

Enjoy your vacation!

At least our tickets will stay at their same rate! Hopefully Fall discounts come in April like people were predicting. I think it would be poopyheaded of them to wait till July or something similar knowing how many people have rebooked for Fall.

Our trip isn't until the end of Aug, so I really hope it doesn't stretch that far. But if it does, we're probably just going to have to outright cancel. We booked under a free dining offer, 8 people total, for 8 nights. The youngest turns 10 during the trip, so rebooking anytime after that, if the free dining doesn't apply, I'll be paying adult rates for the lot of us, that's a difference of $4992.00 (not including taxes).

My trip was in the affected time period so I moved it, same resort and room category but about $20 more a night, and I did pay the difference.

As others have said, when you move your trip, the rates and offers for the new dates apply. And look at it this way. If you would have booked the December holiday rates and Disney closed and you had to move your trip to mid-September, wouldn't you want a refund for moving to the cheaper dates?

I had a bounceback offer booked and was told that I can move it and retain the discount, but I would have to choose new dates that fall within the original offer and it would be based on availability.

I have the same offer, can I ask when you moved your dates to and how was the availability? I really don’t want to give up our free dinning! We’re scheduled for the end May right now.

My bounceback offer was for room only and was booked in November 2019. I think the free dining offer may have been the bounceback prior to the one I booked. But either way, I haven't actually changed it yet so I can't speak to availability. To my knowledge, you'd be in a better position with the free dining offer because only your check-in day needs to fall within the offer dates. The dates for the free dining bounceback (after May) were this:
  • June 26, 2020 – September 12, 2020
  • December 9, 2020 – December 24, 2020

That is correct. It *can* be modified, but the original offer dates still apply. And there has to be availability under the promo.

Thanks for the info! I really hope we can rebook in that time frame, everything I look at is thousands more:(

What my friend and I actually did was cancel the April trip and book a brand new one for Oct. When the refund for what was paid on the first trip comes in, we will just automatically put it on the second trip. But yes, it was a couple of hundred dollars higher on the second trip. I was going to simply change the dates but the only way it said to do it was to call Disney. Didnt feel like sitting on the phone for a few hours so we simply cancelled one and booked the other.

Yes, I just changed my May Bounceback to October at the same rate.

One caveat to this. Your ticket prices will not change, as long as your new dates are the same number of days. If you add any on, they will charge you the prevailing rate for all days, even the ones already purchased. When I moved ours, I added a couple of days. Instead of the couple hundred it should cost for all our (5 people) tickets to go from 5 to 7 dats, it was several hundred because the new ticket dates were more expensive.

Yes, I had a pin code for 15% off for ASMo for May 17. I rebooked for Sept. 6 and had to pay rack rate but they did tell me to keep checking for a promotion if one becomes available and I could add it to my package.

Basically when you rebook you are booking from what is available, at whatever price/ discount is available for those dates.

When all this is said and done, there may be new discounts out that we’ve not seen before. Just keep your eyes open!
