If the view from your room was not even an option.. what would make you choose one resort over the other?

And, what resort would you go with?

I don't think I'd let a view determine what resort I stayed at. Are you talking, value, moderate or deluxe? Need more info.

Jenny.. I'm just curious, in general, regardless of cost.. what resort you would go with. :)

The reason I'm curious is because we are trying to decide were we want to stay for our HM in September. If we go with the YC or BWI we can only do standard view.. but if we went with the AKL we could do the savannah view.

For your HM you should definitely do either BWI or YC. :) You'll want to be close to restaurants, bars, nightlife, etc... AKL would be sort of lonely, unless you're a real animal nut. DH proposed to me on an Illuminations cruise and we were staying at the BWI. :) So I just associate that whole area with romance. Also it seems more adult to me... ESPN Club, Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, etc. Also pop over to the Swan and do some Karoke! :) Maybe even look into an Illuminations cruise. We did ours on the Breathless, and it was amazing. :)

I am one of those who do not believe in paying extra for a view. What the heck do I care what is outside my window? I care what is INSIDE my window!! I would choose the resort that seems to match most of what you're looking for and perhaps you will be pleasantly surprised with a free upgrade. Be certain to mention you are on your honeymoon.

Have fun!

I agree! I have found that sometimes I received what I asked for and sometimes not - so now we go where we end up and if there's a view we try to enjoy it and if there's not, we head out and explore. Of course, we're going on our 10th trip. I remember our second we had a great view from the dolphin to see Illuminations at Epcot and were never in the room early enough to catch it! On a later trip, we had a balcony with another great view of Epcot and actually planned an evening of bring take out to the hotel room so we could enjoy the show. LOL!

The only place I pay for a view is at AKL...otherwise view has no effect on where I stay...I take the cheapest room in the resort I want. And it seems the dilemna is always where to stay...but view does not come into play!

I've had a standard view at the BC, BWV, and the Poly ( garden view) as far as the deluxes go. They were fine views for those resorts. I honestly could not have asked for anything better from the views.

I was born and raised in Myrtle Beach, and now I live in Panama City Beach. I *know* what a waterview or lagoon view consists of, and I want to get away from it on vacation.:p
I love to garden at home, and I love sitting peacefully on my very private back porch in the morning and evening by myself. Feeling that I can see out while no one else can see in, and looking over the foliage at WDW suits me just fine. (You wouldn't want to see me out there in the early a.m. in my PJs trying to reclaim my place among humanity with my coffee, anyway... ;) ) I love the privacy.

I pay for a savannah view at AKL, because it is just awesome! I pay for a minimum of a woodsview room at WL, because I really don't want to even have a slight chance of overlooking a service area. I just want peace and quiet on my balcony...:D

We had a waterview room at Beach Club. I don't recall the room number but if you enter BC from the lagoon side main entrance - it was the first room facing directly out towards the lagoon. Problem was we were on the first floor & really to low to see the water. Dont' get me wrong the room was fine but it wasn't worth extra $$ - to us.

We stayed at the Polynesian for our honeymoon. It is very romantic with the tropical plants and flowers and the tiki torches glowing at night. Polynesian music plays in the background. You can swing in a hammock on the beach and watch "Wishes" and the EWP. Ever since then we have been big Poly fans.princess:

I would pay (and have payed ) extra for the savannah view at AKL. I think AKL is a great honeymoon resort because it is quiet and peaceful. I don't normally pay extra at the values and moderates but deluxes I would conisder.

Hi there!

We have stayed at both the YC and the AKL. Or room at YC was waterview (sorry I can not comment on the standard view) and Savannah view at AKL.

The way that I think of the YC is that it is in the middle of it all. Boat launches to Epcot and MGM. SAB, restaurants and the Boardwalk at your fingertips. You are always in the middle of it. To the 9's as the way I would describe it. Fast paced and moving. Always something to do. Sometimes a bit busy that with all the stuff to do can be hard to unwind.

AKL is a bit different. It is located near the AK. Some say that it is far away from things but in my mind it is a short drive to anywhere and everything on property. Coming back to the lodge at night and seeing the "fires" lit up by the road is way cool. The rooms at the Lodge are way romantic. For our Second Wedding Anniversary we ordered a dozen red roses from the Disney Florist from our room-the resort was WOW against the soft earth tones of the room. It is such an AWESOME experience to wake up in the morning go to your curtains, peek around them and see the animals.

We love to eat at Jiko and Boma. Victoria Falls is a great place to go and enjoy an African glass of wine. AKL is a place where DH and I go to spend time with each other. We relax and are peace here.

Whichever you decide to go with-Congratulations!
Please let us know your decision.

The only place I wouldn't recommend a standard view is at AKL. The others, I don't mind if I just see some trees or foliage or part of the parking along with foliage, but at AKL a lot of the standard view rooms have views which include signs and billboards from 192 (local highway). From my room, I could clearly see a 7-11 sign, a gas station sign, several billboards, etc, in other words, lots of the outside world. To me, that isn't acceptable for any Disney resort, much less a deluxe. Heck, even the dumpster view at Villas of the Wilderness Lodge would be acceptable for me, I'm not that picky, but that AKL lodge standard view wasn't acceptable. So that's why I wouldn't do the standard view there, but any of the other resorts' standard views seemed fine.

For a honeymoon I would definitely choose the Yacht Club even with a standard view. Just make sure you have on your reservation stated: garden view/lake side. That may help you get a better view. That is what we requested and they upgraded us to water view. Absolutely breathtaking.

If you like Epcot, you'll want to stay at either YC or BW no matter what the view. You just cannot beat the location! If we could have afforded to stay at the YC on our honeymoon we definitely would have. We love this resort so much.

Good luck in your planning!

Hmmm, differences among the deluxes that do not relate to the views...

Room differences. All the deluxes have large rooms regardless of the view - Except AKL and WL. They have smaller rooms and smaller beds. They claim to be Queen sized, but they aren't - they are some mutant between double and queen. AKL does offer a larger room with true queen beds - but it costs the same as the larger rooms at the other deluxes. All the deluxes have virtually identical amenities otherwise.

Location. If you want to be near Epcot and The Studios - stay at YC/BC, etc. Near the MK stay at a monorail resort.

Other. YC/BC has a mini water park for a pool. AKL has the critters.

Playfullness. If you are going to 'play along' with the theming then the AKL or the Polynesian offer the ability to pretend to be on Safari or in the Islands.

Make sure to chase down the best price - September is a quiet time at WDW and there will probably be nice discounts available at all the resorts. I always use MouseSavers to keep track of things.

Have Fun!
