I have a Sony DSC-H2, I am in the process of learning the manuel setting, and hope to buy a dslr one day. However, I would like to buy a couple of lenses for this camera now. I would like a wide angle and a telephoto. It is a 58mm, and Sony make these two lenses for this camera (Telephoto and Wide Angle ). However, I am wondering if I can use any 58mm lens with this camera? If so, do I want to consider other lenses other than the Sony ones? If I do, what should I be looking at? Any paticular brands?

If this was your camera, what would you want? (Besides a DSLR  )

Thanks :flower3:

Distortion is typically a problem when you put an add on lens on a p&s. When you go out of brand name it could get even worse. I suggest asking or searching the DPReview Sony p&s forum for more specific info. Unfortunately, your chances are sort of slim finding someone on here with this exact experience.

Here's my take, sell the camera on craigslist for as much as you can. Save the money you were going to spend on a lense and buy a used DSLR from adorama or B&H. Why spend money on something when you already know you want to replace it.

Does it make a difference that this camera is a full featured and was made to take lenses and filters?

No, because it wasn't made to take it. Its just offered for someone who needs more. There isn't a huge supply of lenses for that camera, its just an option. a DSLR was made to take lenses, filters, adn whatever else you want to throw at it.

Okay, I see what you are saying. When I said, "made for them" I meant that it had threads to attach them and an option on the menu for conversion lenses. But I see what you are saying too. But for someone who likes to take many pictures of her kids, I think I fall into the catagory of someone who needs more. (more=DSLR :rotfl2: ) But for now this camera will have to do.

liek I said, you can sell that on craigslist to someone and you can pick up some really nice DSLRs on craigslist for unbelievable prices! Just something to think about.

I have been looking on Craigslist for some time now. I am not sure I would buy from there though, because I am really anal about having new, with my luck if I bought used it would tear up the very next day. Thanks for the advice though. :upsidedow
