Would you sacrifice not going to Disney another year to save up to go deluxe AKL or go to the AoA resort to save money and go sooner? This is my dilemma, I skipped going this year for financial reasons and for my next trip I really wanted to go deluxe at AKL ( I have never been deluxe, only value or moderate) but I'm not quite there yet and deluxe though I could swing it would not make me feel comfortable financially at this time. I can however fully afford the value resort and AoA is all shiny and new =D
So I want opinions! What would you do, wait another whole year to go deluxe or go this year value? Thanks in advance for your input:goodvibes

Im probably in the minority but id go for AoA. As a single mom I cant justify dishing out all that money for delux when we'll be in the parks all day. I gor for values and mods. But thats just me.

I always want to go as often as possible, and if that meant staying value than we absolutely would. :goodvibes

Well, AKL is my favourite resort by far, if I had to save for a couple more months then I would, but I'd it meant waiting another whole year, then I'd go for AoA for sure! It looks fantastic there anyway.

I would say go with what you can comfortably afford. Is it only you and DD15? If so, why are AKL and AoA the only two options? Could you two try a mod? We usually stay Deluxe, but one year I felt guilty about spending the money so we did POR. We had a great trip and I felt great about how much money I didn't spend. I may still go back to Deluxe next time, but now we are more open to staying at Mods too.

i would consider renting a DVC reservation from someone on these boards to go to AKV which would not be that much more that AOA if you are lucky. I own DVC and my son really wanted to stay at AOA but We will be at AKV and OKW because of the makeup of our group. We will have to save AOA for another trip and I will probably have to rent out my points to pay for it.

If you can not go this your because of finance's, they yes if you can treat yourself next time, why not.

I'd rather go the parks more often and spend more time with Mickey than wait to save money for a deluxe resort. Resort to me is not everything.. The reason why we go to Disney is to go to the parks. If I have to stay value or even off-site I would... but that's just me. :)

Yes it is just me and DD :) My niece may or may not come she is still up in the air about it. We did enjoy our last stay at CSR, but if I am going to spend a decent amount again I would opt to pay the difference and stay deluxe since we never have stayed deluxe. It's just that I want to be comfortable spending that much which would require saving longer hence the extra year, but we both miss Disney so much I am wondering if going value would be better for now ( would still plan a deluxe stay in the future)

I actually looked into DVC rental, I admit it does make me a bit nervous since you have to trust the other party, and I know I can go through a 3rd party for a bit more money, but they want the money upfront which kinda puts a snag in my plans since I budgeted making weekly payments to Disney. By the time I will have enough saved to pay DVC outright it will be January and I'm afraid with a short notice like that the week I want will be gone:(

I'm in the minority, but I would wait to stay deluxe. We love the deluxe resorts and while we also love the parks, we do spend alot of time at the resort, so that's a very important part of our trips. It's not all parks to us anymore as we like to have more down time to relax and enjoy the resort. We see the resort as more than just a place to sleep, so if it were me, I'd wait a year and stay where I really wanted to stay.

Having stayed the gamut from value to deluxe at Disney, I will tell you that my absolute favorite resort is Pop Century. We have not yet stayed at AKL, as it is too far out of the way for me personally, but have stayed at BWI twice, WL & BC. I don't enjoy the hike to my room after a day in the park! Somehow, those interior corridors just seem longer & the walk from the parking lot is ridiculous! Our August trip, I let my DH guilt me into staying at CBR over POP......I am still mad I spent the extra money. We are rarely in the room, but he wanted the pool upgrade for summer. We used the pool once. & DS2 did NOT like the water spraying down on his face in the childrens area, so didn't use that this time either, which we thought we would. I prefer the food court choices & MUCH more convenient location at POP, as well as the elevators with the stroller. I can't wait to stay at AOA! I would rather go than not go, staying where I like the price point....I know I like WDW! JMO, best wishes with whatever you decide!

would stay at AoA as I go anytime I can andhave stayed all over the place deluxe to values but no camping and all is fun to us

I LOVE deluxe (all I've stayed), but would without a doubt go with AoA. (I want to try values/mods anyway lol!)
If I am just in WDW it makes it all worth it. :wizard:

BBM (Bolded by me)

OP, I have an idea...

From your post, it sounds like if you go with AoA, it will be next year, but if you go deluxe, it will be the year after, correct?

We never know what life will bring our way or what the future holds, go! Stay at AoA for your next trip. Enjoy your DD at 15/16 years old. Then, start saving for AKL, and plan to take your DD for her senior year or as a graduation celebration.

We have stayed at all levels and have enjoyed our stay at each resort.

I would always rather save up until I can do the trip the way I really want to do it. If I have to wait a year to save up for it, I wait.

We really like deluxe resorts, but what we like more is to go as often as we can. We have stayed at the value resorts and while we prefer to be in a Deluxe (namely the Poly), we are just happy to be in Disney no matter what. I say go for AoA! Afterall, its still a cool experience to stay in the newest resort even if it isnt Deluxe. :)

Oh, I would definitely stay at AoA!! Personally, I have NO desire whatsoever to stay at AKL!!! I think AoA is a MUCH COOLER choice than AKL!! AKL is just so FAR removed from everything...They'd pretty much have to give me a room for free in order for me to stay there. I just think that is the least desirable hotel of any on all of WDW property because of its location. If you don't have a car, the bus service is sucky. Every time we have gone there to eat, we waste SO MUCH time waiting for a bus to get back to civilization. :lmao: I'm betting that AoA is going to have bus service like POP which is going to be some of the BEST on property!! :thumbsup2 And I have walked around over at AoA and the exterior theming is AMAZING!! :thumbsup2 Hope you are able to plan your trip sooner rather than later! :cool1:

In the end it's your choice, but I agree with a PP. Do AoA next year. Then take your time and research the rental process. Go back to a AKV for graduation by renting. We love AKV/AKL. We hit the parks hard and stay really busy and then are able to relax away from everything. After staying there I don't feel like I need a vacation after my vacation!
