... were you bothered by the noise from trucks going by or from the monorail?

I watched a wedding video on You Tube where a *lot* of the ceremony was inaudible due to the "whooshing" of the monorails going by and the sound of trucks revving their engines or using their back-up alarms. I'm wondering if we have our reception or pre-reception on the covered part of the patio, is that noise going to drive us crazy?

I'd love to hear the opinions of anyone who's had an event outside of Whitehall, especially during the day when there are more delivery trucks running, etc.

TIA!! :goodvibes

ooh good question! im excited for the answer too! were hoping for a reception out there (if our numbers dont get too high) and i never thought about the noise! eek!

I think you'll be fine and won't be bothered by traffic or the monorail.

I had my pre-reception and reception at the Whitehall room on Thursday, 5/27 and we spent a lot of time out on the patio. Pre-reception was at 11AM (and was laid out on the covered portion of the patio) and it all ended around 3:30. I didn't hear any noise from trucks or traffic and the monorail was fun - not a hinderance at all. We have some great pics with the monorail above us and just waved whenever it went by.

That makes me feel better. :) That video was just so off-putting with all the noise, that I sort of freaked out!

Can I ask you a question? Did you have the fans going on the porch? And if so, did they make it pleasant enough to be outside?

Remember a video camera microphone treats all sounds equally and does not filter out background sounds like our ears. It's like talking to someone on the phone where there is background noise you can hardly hear the person on the phone but if you were with the person you could hold a perfectly resonable conversation and probably not notice the background noise. Our ears and brains can filter where a microphone can't.

We had photo's on the Whitehall Patio and I don't remember any traffic noise. Yes you can hear the monorail but I thought it was fun like the previous poster.

As for the fans yes there were going but it was 95+ degrees on my wedding day in July and very humid - nothing helped :sunny:

Eh...the fans were going but I don't know that they did that much to circulate the air. It was fairly hot and humid that day (I think it got up to 93) but people were perfectly fine staying in the shade of the porch for the pre-reception. We had tables out there and beverages, so they seemed happy. After we had cake, a lot of people went back out there and hung out. Some went out and sat in the sunshine, so the heat didn't appear to make it uncomfortable for anyone.

That makes sense, the microphone thing. Thank you! :goodvibes

I'm worried about the temperature thing, too. Not quite as much because we're at the end of October, but I know FL can be hot and humid anytime ... we have photos from Christmas '08 where we were obviously flushed and sticky in the morning just from being outside. I'd love to have our brunch out on the covered patio, but I don't want anyone to be uncomfortable, either. Decisions, decisions!!:sad2:

OK, that's good to hear! :thumbsup2
