We did not enjoy the resale process at all. Since we have now closed, we are probably a week or two weeks away from being in the system and making our first reservation.

We know that we want to add on points at some point (probably in the next 3-4 years). We are not sure that we will go the resale route because of the experience we had. We are thinking of adding on smaller 50 point contracts, so, the price difference is not that great in resale and direct.

At any rate, for those of you (like us) that didn't have a good resale experience, will you do it again for your add ons, or did it scar you enough to pay the premimium straight through Disney?

It seems that most people on this forum are pro resale, and I totally get why, because it is a huge savings!

I guess it depends on you. If it was really that bad and you lost money on the deal, I guess that I would have to think about it when I get ready to buy again. Anytime that you are dealing with people, things can go wrong. We have had Disney make some big mistakes on direct buy contracts, they eventually got things fixed but it took time and several phone calls and emails.

Wait until you start dealing with MS, and all the other things that your membership includes. :goodvibes

What were the issues? Resale does take 2-3 months to do and often has periods of no response. That's normal. Were there other issues?

We would do resale again if e were to add on and didn't care about the direct perks.

If you already know that it will be 3-4 years until you are ready to add on, then resale may be perfect for you. Now that you have had a bad experience, you understand the need for added time on the resale market. When you do decide to add on, just make sure you are 4-6 months from planning on using the points, and you will have a satisfying experience. If you are looking for rapid-fire ownership, then buying direct, and paying the premium, may be the route to go.

I've been following your posts, and I think that the issues were just b/c the resale places (and disney) were absolutely slammed when you bought. And then *I think* there was a question about the points you were getting, which added extra stress as you waited to find out.

Doing a resale at a later date, as long as you don't do it during a big rush like just happened the other month, will probably go a lot smoother.

for me, I would just not do resale!! Looks like to much of a headache!!! I loved the ease of direct, and I had the points in the system and could book the same day!!
just for that, it is worth it to me! I do not have time to play around! It was so nice and easy, and I got a great deal!!:)

We bought direct for both our main contract and an add on. At the time the costs difference was not that much. I don't think I would want to do resale, I am not a patient person and I would rather get exactly what I want with minimum hassle. Now, there is always a point that the cost outweighs the aggravation....but generally I put a pretty high price on my time and less aggravation.

Our first 2 contracts were direct. We went resale on the last contract because the price difference was worth the wait. And yes it does take time, but you know that going in. Some people are selling because their lives have changed and the money may not go as far, so they sell. The sales were fast because of the new rule, and Disney was busy so it took a little longer .All said and done, resale is not for everybody, but it does work.

When originally buying into BLT we were also considering buying SSR direct for the THV. Boy am I glad we did not buy SSR direct! We saved over $10,000.00 by buying 2 resale contracts vs. direct. The 1st contract took 5 weeks from offer to points in system, AND came with previous years points banked for us. The 2nd recent purchase took 8 1/2 weeks from beginning to end and came with 2009, 2010 and in Oct 2011 points which is better then buying direct! After renting 2009 points our cost was 49.00pp:thumbsup2 Both transactions went smooth, the savings was worth the wait!

When you are talking smaller contracts, I think the ease of direct can outweigh the savings via resale.

We did our BLT add on last summer (August) through Disney--first, we only wanted 30 points (although I should have been better at persuading DH that we needed more since he was in the "approving" mood!!!:rotfl:) and could use the Disney Visa to put off paying for the entire contract for 7 months.

This allowed me to buy and have the points for the 11 month window (September) and they were the same UY as I owned. Finding that had been difficult. Our UY is June and it is one of the smaller UY's for BLT.

At the end of the day, everyone has to figure out what is important. Once the upfront fee is paid, its all about the MF's. If I have to buy 100 points resale when I only want 50, even if I they cost the same as the 50 direct, it is obligating to me to a bigger MF's bill as well, something I just may not want.

If we do a bigger contract, more than 150 or more, we'll go resale; a smaller contract, we'll do direct.

These are some interesting points made. I was wondering from everyone's personal experiences, not mine. I have been watching the resale market via the emails that the different companies send out. I haven't seen one small (50 or less) with our home resort, and UY. I think that would definitely be a big difference.

I do agree that at some times the aggravation is not worth the savings. I guess when we get ready to do the add on, I will definitely compare the cost and differences to see if the wait is worth it.

I guess I am just looking to see if people who didn't have a smooth or enjoyable process would be willing to do it all over again.
