If you found a digital scale that does low weights

in a high school kids book bag would you be concerned. It is also solar operated. The teen in question has had parents concerned, and in addition to normal teen/parent concerns he also is very into weight lifting/gym. Definitely takes supplement powder while at gym.
A close friend called me since I teach. I went through hs in the early 80's so my first thought is something bad. But I don't want to say that she should be concerned unless i'm really sure. Label on box, it was expensive but not as much as the scales some people used to steal from chem class.

How low is "low"? My postal scale measures to the 10th of an ounce.

Yes if he's really into it then they don't even trust the how packed is the cup.

I had a friend growing up that was 24/7 into lifting and he bought his stuff in bulk and weighed it out.

His younger brother kept stealing his scales and was weighing other things.

that's what i'm hoping. i'm glad to hear some alt. uses. There've been other minor concerns parents had but without any proof they're just typical teen/parent worries.

Pull some out and get it tested.

I swear my DM besides owning her own salon ,cut our hair to get it checked.

I would be concerned. I would be concerned if they were that consumed with supplements...or that they may be taking or selling drugs.

parents researched and approved the supplements being taken, even running them by coach. Didn't seem consumed with them, unless that's what the scale is for, then it might be a concern. Worried more about possible sales.

Yeah, that would be my concern too. Is there any other suspicious activity going on with him? Like having extra cash around? Short phone calls and people dropping by for a short time?

no extra cash at the moment but being a trying teen. This could be nothing but scale makes you think that's why he's being a PIA. Not even a big pita.

they haven't told him yet. They wanted to figure out how to handle it before they bring it up. I"m assuming they'll do that tonight. The thing is, if it's for something wrong he'll lie. If it's for something ok the answer will be the same.

That is true, but sometimes just the way they react can give you a clue. And generally, after being questioned, they become more secretive. I hope it is nothing and very possibly, it is.

It's hard raising teens, so much to worry about.

I'm so dense that I wouldn't have even thought of drugs. I'd figure it was for some Science class. But I'd be interested and ask about it. If something was up, I'd know. Might not know what, but would be talking to DH who always figures out rotten stuff quickly.

Now, if I found a tourniquet and needles and powder, then I'd know.

We had to anchor our scales at work that are like the one described....the kids in the clinic were stealing them, and not for nutritional supplements as we know them! This kid could be legit, but I think mom and dad need to look into it.
