If you ever need to have a doctor see you at your Hotel in WDW or an offsite Hotel

During my familes 2nd week at WDW I got sick with a minor throat infection, plus during the night I was caughing very bad & 3 seperate times I had trown up. Anyway during that week my parents had called a doctor from a clinic to come & check me out, because they were worried. Anyway for anyone who will soon be going to WDW if you need a doctor to come & see you for whatever reasons the cost is $200.00 if your staying at any Walt Disney World Resort + whatever medications you are prescribed & if your staying offsite the cost for the doctor to visit you is $250.00 & again whatever medications your are prescribed. We were told the reason why it's cheaper if you stay onsite vs offsite, but I forgot what the reason was. However if you want to get around the $200.00 or $250.00 charge of the doctor seeing you in your room, you could go to the clinic but we were told if you got after 9:00 AM the wait could be from 3-4 hours. So the question is do you want to wait that long on your vacation to see a doctor, or pay the money to have them come see you a lot faster & they come at the time you were told on the phone that they would be there.

Is your insurance going to cover it?

I went to the walk in on 192, and yes there was a 3 hour wait. There was also lots of Disney guests there as well.

I'd be curious to see if your insurance company will cover an in room visit?

This happened to me during my May vacation. I was alone without a car with my son and 4 yr old neice. I called my insurance company asked them to send me somewhere close due to needing a cab. They called me back and told me they arranged for a doctor to come to my room. They paid for it completely, I didn't have to pay first. The doctor ordered a prescription for me which was delivered to guest services. That I had to pay for and was re-imbursed when I got home.

The key to insurance is to always call them first so you are clear as to what they will or will not pay for.

This was RBC insurance.

Wow, that's a great insurance provider. Thanks for telling us about it. My dh has travel ins through work and it may be RBC...curious now, will have to dig out that card!

There is a thing for your insurance company, but all they would do is pay the money back to you which you paid the doctor. After the doctor is done, you then pay them the $200 (if your at a WDW Resort) + whatever cost for a prescription. So you will just be getting the money back.

Is there a phone nimber that you call? I got really sick in February and stuck it out so the rest of my party wouldn't miss out. But it was tough and I didn't enjoy my trip. I wish I new a doctor would come to your room.

I forgot the number as my family threw out the brochuer with all the information. However every Walt Disney World Resort Hotel & offisite Hotel should have it with them, so all you got to do is ask for it assuming you need it.

good to know.
one trip..i got such a sore throat and bad cough-lost my voice..toughed it out till i got home though.
won't be so hard core if it ever happens again!
wonder if blue cross covers this?

We also used RBC insurance twice last January. First time off the ER with DD who had a Norwalk like virus, second time I was sent to the clinic which was next to the hotel. Both times we were immediately seen. RBC had already faxed the info to the clinic before I arrived, in under 5 minutes. The service was amazing from RBC and I will definately purchase their annual plan again, even though I hope to never have to use it again. I did see the bill from the ER for $2130.56 but RBC was then discounted to $1448.78 THe clinic was $180.00. Assured Assistance is the company that handles your call and sets up the appointment. They were professional and everything was done quickly. The annual plan cost $112.00 for two adults and one child. What a bargain this year turned out to be. They also reimbursed us for the medications after we got home.

My DS got pneumonia when he was 3 at WDW. We went to the hosp in Celebration (I think its called Florida Hospital). The wait was long but the service was awesome. They gave him and I heated blankets and food in the Emerg room which really shocked me! They also gave him a shot of antibiotics in Emerg which he has never had here even with pnemonia. Disney paid for our cab ride back to the hotel, gave us a fridge for the meds and delivered the meds to our room. Even though he was so sick, we never missed a beat of our trip.

I was also really impressed with the CMs at CBR..when the cab dropped us off at the front desk it was like 3am. I was deliriously tired and DS was crying. We sat in the lobby for a while and then a CM drove us to our room and helped me carry DS in.

Edited to add---I was fully expecting to pay for the cab. I asked the nurse if there was a phone I could use to call the cab and she asked if I was a Disney guest. She then asked where I was staying and called the for the cab herself! That blew me away! And to top it off the cab driver was as nice as could be!

Wow that is such a nice story! Great service! :thumbsup2

We also had a doctor visit us in our hotel room.

DS picked up something during our travels which really started to set in a few days after we arrived. We usually try to let these things run their course but he was getting really sick, really fast. He was not yet diagnosed as having asthma, but we did have puffers for him that he needs when he has a cold/virus. It was making me really nervous because his breathing was not right..wheezing and full chest.

I called the front desk at POP Century and told them I needed a doctor. I fully expected they would just give me the address of the nearest clinic/hospital but they put my call through to the doctors office.
We have BlueCross but I didn't call them first(I really would recommend calling first though)....I just knew DS needed to see someone and I didn't care!!! He had to have some medical attention no matter what. Even if BC didn't offer coverage.

She was there in 15 minutes. She had a rolling pharmacy with her and was able to give us all the medication we needed for him. Although we had to pay upfront, and BlueCross was not happy that we left them out of the loop, it worked out fine and we got reimbursed for everything.
I must say it is a worry to have a sick little one when you're not home. I know for us we will always make sure we have the coverage we need to care for everyone.

yes we had to rush daughter to celibrations hospital for a food alergy at widerness lodge .they wouldnt treat her untill we proved we had insururance.we said we had it but it wasnt good enough because it was bought in canada (cumis for usa) we had to put everything on our visa then they treated her.it was$400.00us for shot to get the swelling down in her throat.it went down in minits after the shot.we got our money back in 3 weeks when we got home .so make sure you got goood insurance.

My wife also was treated for a food allergy during a stay at WL (at celebration hospital - transported there via Reedy Creek ambulance). The emergency room visit came to approx $3000 (five hours).

We also had a doctor come to the room. Not knowing the procedure my dh called the front desk about us visiting a hospital. They explained the option of the doctor coming to the room and it was great. I called the telephone number and the lady took the info and said the doc would be there at 8am.

8am prompt he arrived. Even though I suspected the problem he did multiple checks. He was so friendly and took his time.

I paid the 200 plus meds with my visa and submitted it to blue cross when I returned home....and YES it was covered :)

Even it if wasnt....I thought the fee for a doctors room visit was very reasonable.
