Okay folks... this was part of a cast memo... but I thought I'd pass it along, since it relates to you folks as well...

For Your Information, and Most of All For Your/Our Safety

I want everyone to know that we have asked Orange County to step up their use of radar on our roadways to ticket speeders.

This high-speed driving is going to get costly for those of you who will not slow down.

So everyone be warned in advance, and don't blame me if you get a $500 ticket and have to go to driving school.

As someone who drives these roads every day... I can tell you that speeding has gotten worse. MUCH worse. In addition, folks are running red lights, stop signs, cutting people off, and doing all sorts of other crazy things.

PLEASE FOLKS... Drive safely. OBEY THE SPEED LIMITS... Speed does kill.

Oh, and remember... Disney isn't the only one who likes to take your money. Orange County Sherrif's like tourist money as well.

It was down right scary driving around Disney with people whizzing by you. Especially when you don't exactly know where you are going.

Maybe the resorts will hand a similiar note, nicely worded of course to guests when they check in as a warning.

It's very interesting that you bring this up. My last trip to WDW was the first time I had ever actually driven to the parks. I was amazed at how much the WDW internal road system was like a freeway. People were driving at very high speeds and then suddenly cutting across lanes of traffic without warning. I'm shocked more people aren't seriously hurt or killed driving on those roads. If it gets worse they might have to install some traffic calming devices.

Thanks for the warning! It came at a good time, as we will be at WDW in three weeks, and we'll have a rental car!

I always wondered why I never saw any police doing traffic duty, and just figured that because it was WDW property, WDW was responsible and had cut that budget too....

We tend to have lead feet, so thanks! You may have saved us some serious $! We are NOT the crazy kind of drivers, but if everyone else is going fast, I usually keep up!

Thanks Tyler. This is exactly why we 'leave the driving to you'!!! I'm from the Boston area and can drive as nutty as the next person..but drivers in WDW seem to have a death wish!!! I'm (and my family) are much safer with you, on the buses.

They are there. There's always at least a certain number of Orange County Sherrifs on property at any given moment... You might not see them all the time because they're busy with other things. However, they do have thier hidden speed trap points... And now that they're stepping up radar patrol, those spots might increase.

It's about time.

I did read a rumor somewhere (these boards?) that traffic stops within WDW only netted the driver a warning. No wonder traffic violations have been getting out of hand.

As a frequent guest at the All Stars I noticed that the red light on Buena Vista outside the All Stars at McDonalds lasts much longer now. The reason is that the walk light now has its own time (known as exclusive pedestrian phase) rather than having pedestrians (mostly cast members) cross "with the light" which is the green for the Osceola off ramp. With lax enforcement there must have been accidents at that location. So drivers these days wait for the green and watch the digital countdown 28, 27, 26, ... 4, 3, 2, 1 next to the flashing Don't Walk as precious fuel idles out the tailpipe at zero miles per hour. There is a new No Turn On Red sign there too.

We were driving up to the MK gates last week and had a car ZOOM past us at an extremely high rate of speed. I looked down and realized that I was doing almost 60 , and figured that he must have been doing almost 80!
It really shocked me that I was driving that fast, but even scarier to realize that I was keeping up with traffic in the area. I think the speed limit there is only 40.
From that point on, I made sure to obey the speed limits, and took notice that everyone seemed to be driving crazy.
Later in the week, I had one person cut in front of me, only to slam on her brakes at a red light, and then proceed to put on eyeliner. Amazing!
Please everyone, take care on those roads. Don't turn your WDW vacation into a possible tragedy.

I'm afraid this has gotten to be a problem everywhere, not only in WDW. Everyone is in too much of a hurry. I figure better to get there late than not get there at all.

That's an old wives tale... and very false. You can, and WILL get a very expensive ticket.

That sign has been there for as long I personally can remember. There is however a new No Turn On Red sign on Bonnet Creek, turning onto Buena Vista Drive. This was following the bridge accident awhile back. 90% of cars seem to ignore this sign, even though there are two of them right at the stop bar, and they are QUITE visible.

Maniacal private automobile drivers from such places like Boston and New York City are a major reason why it is difficult to provide more efficient Disney transportation using existing roads, as opposed to spending millions on monorails.

Imagine two bus bodies hitched together, so one driver can handle 150 or more people. Imagine trams like those from parking lot to park, going all the way from MK down World Drive to the All Stars, or from Grand Floridian to MGM, with 300 people each. (Rather trams like those for the MGM back lot tour, with side railings to keep people from falling out) These make sense but cannot be operated safely in mixed traffic.

One one trip (Thanksgiving '98) my goal was to find the Super Bus, consisting of a truck tractor trailer rig that carried people. I waited outside parks for hours at a time and was lucky enough to get a ride on it. I am told it was since taken out of service and turned into an office. Double trailer trucks do run in a few states so I once imagined something like that for efficient Disney Transport. This year tried the same waiting game to get a ride with Tyler, but failed.

Have I been speeding? What is the "on property" speed limit?

I know I always have to slow down by the sepentine "S" curve by the Car Care Center. I have been known to pass a Disney bus or two (C&D Express, I'll beep and wave next time, LOL!)

I think the direction signs on property are pretty vague, so you have to slow down to figure out what they mean.

Actually, those are quite possible. I'm not sure if Disney would consider Articulated busses, mostly because they wouldnt be able to fit in our load zones...

60ft Artic's can actually maneuver anywhere that one of our 40ft busses can go... and they can carry typically 120+ people. There are a few companies that even make Double-Artics... I can't imagine driving those!

The SuperBus was unfortunetly, a mechanical nightmare... and for that reason, (among others) it was removed from service.

The speed limits vary around property, however, they are always clearly marked.

World Drive is 50mph.Past the Toll Plaza, it becomes 35, and down to 30 by the traffic light.

Epcot Center Drive is also 50 mph.

Osceola Parkway ranges from 40mph to 50mph.

Buena Vista Drive ranges from 40-45mph.

Just an update... the cops were out in full force today... a bunch of speed traps... and my favorite... traffic control.

The intersection of BVD, Bonnet Creek and a 536 exit ramp, there is a NO LEFT TURN sign for the 536 side, and a NO TURN ON RED sign for the Bonnet Creek side. But of course everyone turns left, and no one stops for the red.

So... today, a trooper decided to set up shop there. He just parked himself on the curb... and when the light would change, he'd move himself into the road, to block those wanting to turn left. It was funny to see folks start to turn left, and then see the trooper, and swerve back... LOL...
