Is it worth pressing the issue? I read a few threads where people are not getting what they requested on their reservation at check-in. I realize requests are not guaranteed, but I usually know what building I want to stay in. It does make our stay more enjoyable.

My request did not get honor and it was our first trip. My kids really wanted the buzz tower at All*Movies. I plan on calling the hotel and asking to talk to a manager and stressing how important it is for our kids and hope they show me the magic!

Talking about how important it is to your kids isn't going to work. If your request isn't available, it isn't available. They are hardly ever guaranteed. Rooms are not assigned until just before your check in date, and they're not going to boot someone else out of a room to give it to you.

My suggestion is...check in early if you can. If you don't get your request, tell them you're willing to wait until a room opens up that fits your request. If one isn't going to open up that day, then you'll have to take what they've got.

For as much as Disney charges it does seem like they could do a better job of granting requests.

When a request is made (and paid in full), why dont they go ahead and block those rooms in their system? Maybe that would be an incentive to pay off your balance earlier...With computer software as advanced as it is, I just do get why they cant reserve the rooms before checkin.

That would be next to impossible with the constant flow of people in and out with overlapping reservations and similar requests and still trying to maximize occupancy.

I think they do a pretty good job with requests.

A request is a request - not a guarantee!!!! Disney stresses this.
If you want something specific - book it an pay for it.
Please Do Not Stress over room requests. All rooms at Disney are Magical - You Are In Disney!!! I have never (over a dozen trips) had an unacceptable room. Maybe not "Perfect" or what I requested, but wonderful none the less.
Don't promise your kids a location - you are at fault there not Disney!
Have a Great Vacation.

I'm only asking what others do if their request is not met...not stressing over it and realize it is only a request. What do you guys do?

It depends on what the problem is. On our last trip to POR we were given a room that was miles away from everything and my 80 year old mother was with us. I had specifically requested to be close to the main building for that reason. They gave us the furthest possible room from the main building. I explained that this was going to be a huge problem for us and asked for something else. The only thing they offered us was a smoking room. (this was before all non-smoking.) So we stayed with the one they gave us and it was horrible. We had to drive to the main building just to get a snack or shop or whatever. So if it was going to affect our trip that badly again I'd do everything I could to get into another room.

I'm planning a solo trip in December. I'm staying at CSR and have requested to be close to El Centro so I don't have to walk alone in the dark too far. I'm a little nervous about my first solo trip. If I end up in the Ranchos I'll request a different room.

If it was just a matter of the view or whatever then I wouldn't bother and I'll stay where I'm put. I will say though that other than that one trip to POR I have always gotten my requests.

For me personally there is nothing to do. When I check into CBR in December if my building request isn't granted due to availability I plan to just go to my assigned room and carry on with my vacation.

Book it and pay for it! Thats what I did....
I realize its a request and it was my 6 year olds request. I didn't promise anything. I just feel sometimes that Disney just puts you in a room and over looks the request part. Your opinion is every room is magical my kids haven't even seen fantasia so they were a little disappointed. It didn't ruin our trip but on the next visit it sure would be nice to get our request being I book the package the day 2008 prices came out.

I did pay for my for my entire trip when I booked it . Which was 60 days out. My requests are not guarenteed either. It kinda stinks but thats how it goes I guess. You just have to hope for the best. But if you are put in an unacceptable room (dirty etc... ) they will ante up.

Sorry to not sound sympathetic, but requests are just that, requests. No request is guaranteed unless it is for medical reasons.

I can honestly say that I have always had my requests granted. Perhaps it is because of the time of year I plan my visits.

I agree. They always reiterate that requests are not guaranteed, unless they are for medical reasons.

Personally, I've always liked any room I've stayed in & always find a reason to really enjoy it. Close to elevator, close to stairs, close to main building, beautiful view, quiet location, close to a pool, etc.

I find that staying in different locations at different resorts makes the trip just a little different each time.

1. I show up early (before 8 a.m.) to check in at the resort. Many times, I have stayed in another hotel the first night to make sure I could be there early the next morning. For instance, on my last trip, I spent one night in the CSR before checking in at the WL the next day.

2. I request the type of room that I want.

3. I make it clear that I do not mind waiting to enter my room until late in the evening. I have no problem leaving my luggage at the resort and going out to explore and have fun in the parks all day.

4. If the room will not be available that evening, I make it clear that I would not mind changing to a preferred room the next day (or any time thereafter during my stay). Usually, eventually, they can get you into the type of room you want.

Disney is GREAT. As long as I have paid for the room type, they have always met my request at check-in. I think arriving early might help, because they can juggle a room here or there. That's how I got a bearface room at the Wilderness Lodge last summer.

Also, I have had the best luck when I have stayed in Deluxe Resorts. I have even had complimentary room upgrades by Disney without asking. The CM's seem to like to give out the best rooms in those resorts.

Good luck with your request! Hope it works!

I've pressed it once and they graciously let me change to another room after the first night. What a pain. Never again. I'll just take what I get and enjoy the trip. By the way, only put one request down and I think you are more likely to get it. It seems more important than this building and this floor and away from the elevator, etc.

Which would you rather have, your specific request or no room at all, because if you want to get that specifc where you are actually expecting Disney to block rooms based on request there are going to a lot of rooms sitting empty waiting for you to check in. Which then will make room rates go up even higher and will prevent some guests, yourself included, from even getting room.

If you want a specific view the best you can do is stay in a deluxe and pay for it.

Anything else if pretty much random and based on what is available when you check in. Surely you don't think your request would be more important that another guest with the same one, or to evict a family already in the room you want.

Think of it like this, take thousands of guests, and thousands of rooms and you try to match them on any given day, not an easy task.

To the OP, ask at check in what is available. They can only give you what is empty when you check in. If what you are given is not acceptable, ask if you can change the next day when it might be available.

They truly want you to be pleased, but you can not give everyone what the want, when so many want the same thing.

I don't press but do ask if anyting will be opening later as many times they try to get you in a room as soon as you check-in. Other then tha no big deal .

I have to say our last stay was just just perfect hit all 3 of our request so that will make up for all the ones missed.

We normally only do section then Floor sometimes but ths one we just wanted a bit more if avail. We could have got right into a room at 11:00am but decided to keep what they set aside for us(ready at 4:00) on the recommendation of the CM and she was dead on.

If I don't get my request, I learn to love what I do get. No big deal - sometimes I even end up thankful for not getting my request, because I will find out that the room I got was even better in some way or another. If it's truly horrible, such as the PP's 80 yo mother with mobility problems, I would see if I could be switched the next day. But you have to realize, they may have 300 people requesting a room in the Buzz section and only have 4 rooms available. Obviously they can't just give you a room that just isn't there, because it's your kid's favorite.

On my upcoming visit to SSR, I have requested a first and second choice of sections. I made sure to mention that my brother just had a knee replacement and won't be able to walk far. We will probably rent him a wheelchair in the parks, but we'd like to be close to the main buildings in the resort because he won't have a chair there. But if we don't get in those sections, we will make do. We might see if we can switch when a room does open up. Also, we made sure to book in a resort that has elevators in every building since 2 of us can't do stairs and we will have a stroller, rather than just hope we'd get a first-floor room.

We will be happy just to be in WDW!

I do always pay for the view I want. Each time I have stayed at a moderate, I have paid for waterview.

I was simply making a suggestion and wondering if it might help more families have their requests granted. Sorry I asked. :guilty:

When we booked a Magic Kingdom view at the Polynesian, I expected to have a Magic Kingdom view. I also requested the Tahiti long house. Well, when checking in they put us in a room in Aeotaeroa facing the Magic Kingdom. We walked into the room, but the view was blocked by another building. I walked back to the GCH and told them we had a MK view in the Tahiti building and wanted to get what we paid for. They immediately found us a great room in the Tahiti building looking at the MK. IMO, it is worth telling the front desk your request upon check-in. :wizard:
